And here I thought I couldn't get any more fucked then I did while reading the ending. I was SO wrong. Yet again, it fits perfectly into the kind of manga it is. Kudos to the author. What a sadistic cunt.

Read Bakuman to learn how manga serialization works. He likely wanted to cut the manga before the cavalary arc but his editor told him to keep going because the ratings are too high to stop so he did just that, and the readership fell off and people started to resent him so he said fuck it and gave us a troll ending. I'm still a huge fan.

I have and I get it. I've nothing against the guy, well, maybe a little. I meant for my post to have had more of a joking tone, but I guess it might've come out wrong, making me look like I was seriously pissed.

Despite the very vague epilogue, at least I got to see my favorite degenerates walk off towards the one thing that brought them together from the start for the last time.

It's been a great ride despite how it turned out in the end. I'll go read the VP spin-off some time afterwards.

I AM ACTUALLY QUITE OK WITH THIS ENDING. The problem with the cavalry arc was simply because editors got greedy and probably told author to milk the story for a bit.
But that ending... those last 30 or so chapters where everyone is out of prison and more about romance and its just looking like an everyday eechi romcom.... and to make Hana look like a girl stuck in an everyday average love triangle.... get to that ending. Man. That... THAT. Thats what's prison school was majorly about.

Subverting expectations and taking typical tropes and dialing it to the max. Simply wish more time could've been spent with the other girls to give a just as equally good "prison school esque" ending/begininning to their relationships.

Honest to god think Hana won. It was close. By the trim of her panties but man was it fucking worth. Just wish we got to see a true epilogue of hana and kiyoshi some weeks after the incident talking to each other (im sure kiyoshi was ULTRA PISSED ) but actually gave it time to analyze (you know his one big point being that he overanalyzes everything) and says something along the lines of

"even after everything you did... I can't really come to hate you..."

and work around that. And oh Hana is waaaaaaaay off the student council :D :D :D :D

I like this twist with Chiyo, but in this case manga needs to be continued where the fate of the heroes will be revealed. However, at the moment we have an unfinished story.
Maybe author trolled us with this end? It's in his style.

So......the boys are back into the prison?

And at this rate why Gakuto or Kiyoshi even cares about wet t-shirt contest when they're already have an experience beyond that?

The epilogue chapter feels out of place to me, and not really necessary, like the author was forced to it. I much prefer chapter 277 as the real ending. But anyway:

I heard nonstop from fans here that "my rating of Prison School will go down" eventually as I approached later stuff.

And it never did.

And now that I finished it, I don't know where the flack of the ending came from at all. That was a perfect ending that tied up the main beats fairly well.

Chiyo became my favorite girl in that last section of chapters. She's an ideal girlfriend-type, a very tolerant and understanding person, and even with all THAT, Kiyoshi managed to lose her simply because he realized his ENTIRE relationship with her had been based on a lie. I've said that from the very beginning.
Not so much sumo, but he lied about not peeping. If only he had stuck to his guns and laid it ALL out to her, the same way he admitted to keeping Hana's panties, even as he wore them, it would've been fine.

But he said it himself "Maybe I have learned nothing."

It's a massive mistake, but we've all been there. Kiyoshi is the most relatable character for me, simply because I've been through it all too.

And I actually liked that most of the characters didn't get any sendoff at all. All the boys, they went down on their raft and we're left to infere what else happened to them. Like real people who come and go in your life. The PBR got them their wet-T-shirt dream, so mission accomplished.
Andre who went through the most, got his happy ending. Will Shingo be able to stay with Anzu now that the wish has been fulfilled? Possibly.
Will Gakuto re-evaluate his wants now that he's lost Mitsuko, the PBR has played its role, and he has no figure, or will more girls flock to him since his reputation still stands?
And Joe, it looks like he accepted that Satou isn't single easily enough, though I would've liked a bit more insight on it. Alongside his obvious taste of yaoi and bond with Mitsuko he developed; if I'm sad about anything being left out, it's that, but again, it's all up for interpretation.

And for Kiyoshi, who's to say if he won't wind up with Hana in the future. She at least knows who he REALLY is, but she's far too childlike right now for anything, but he has a real chance. She does like him, whether she admits it or not, despite everything he does to her; in fact, it only seems to make the feelings stronger on her end.
All Kiyoshi has to do is keep moving forward. He is a good guy at his core, but he needs to stop lying and telling people what they think they want to hear and just be himself.

Chiyo seems so devastated that she's adopted Mari's man-hatred and it looks like Meiko has joined her again as the Vice President. Makes sense, as without Mari, Meiko would probably re-direct loyalties to Chiyo.

I just wonder where Kate would wind up. She's mellowed out, obviously but I guess the rivalries of councils remains. It probably won't be so bitter, given that she doesn't seem to care or have any strong feelings for Chiyo, unlike Mari.

I'm sad the Chairman went out with such a whimper though, so that obnoxiously long sidequest really was just for nothing? Kinda lame.
He did give us more insight into his daughters though. But man, he didn't even change clothing before he locked himself up. Must've felt very guilty.

Still, I wanted a bit of background for at least his stint in prison or the origins of the school. But whatever.

Real life, you don't get all the answers sometimes, and I'm okay with that. It fits the tone. Same with ripping out all happiness at the very end. I love this series for that.

I want to give it a 9/10, but it's not quite THAT good because of some parts. 8 feels too low, so officially I'm giving it 8.5, but I have to round down for MAL standards.
Life can be cruel and unfair. At worst it can traumatize and cripple you. The desire for wanting things to return to the way they were can cost everything and changes nothing. The best way is to keep moving forward, struggle on.
Anger can be powerful but can only get you so far. Let people into your life even if some of them leave you in time.

Fight. Like. Hell. For everything and everyone you love. Always.

Man, I've been anticipating to see the wet T-shirt contest all along. This epilogue is almost a prologue...

“There are two kinds of arrogance. One where you are unequal to the task and one where your dreams are too big. The former is commonplace stupidity... but the latter is a rare species that is difficult to find.”

Read Prison School post publication. People talked about the ending being dark but I don't really agree. It was a pun ending to a series that was always a joke. The ending definitely cut things short and things were left pretty ambiguous, but a lot of characters were in pretty good positions. Hana won. Seems fine.
