| As a preface, this is a fetish related smell question. A couple of compatriots and myself were engaging in thoughtful discourse, and we stumbled upon a conundrum. Would ghost girls possess a discernible scent if you were a living being? Or, rather, should we assume that ghost girls in anime possess a scent unless explicitly noted by the work in question? I am under the belief that, given they are not physical manifestations without a body or the necessary biological components to produce the odors that constitute creating a scent. Now, that said, I do respect the basis on which the consensus the "Ghost girls in anime do possess a scent," given that the school of thought emphasizes the more fantastical elements of anime girls and the potentials of variations between the biological make up of a "real" ghost - I do not wish for this discussion to delve into the depths of the spiritual and/or phantasmal, hence why I put it in quotation marks - and a ghost girl in an anime, and the total lack of sensory abilities and how these things connect would be far too depriving for the creators of these types of series. It should be noted, however, that I do believe that reproducing some of the more realistic elements to be integral to the creative process behind these characters, that may not be favorable to our pre-established dispositions, are important towards making the character more tangible and appealing, in a sense, serving as an accentuation of this aspect to their character. I also believe Descartes would agree with my theorem. I have no conclusive evidence of this, but I do believe I am correct and therefore Descartes would reach the same conclusion. Tell me, do you believe that living creatures within the realm of anime would be able to receive the scent of any cute anime ghost girls within their vicinity? What do you believe the general approach should be until it is otherwise stated and added to the lore of the series in question? Thank you for your time and replies. |

| I honestly wonder as well. Like take the ghost Yuuna for example. Can I be able to smell her since I am a human and therefore unable to physically touch her or would I be able to smell her if I was a ghost? |

But I need to know. After watching Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs I refuse to believe that Yuuna would not have a particular smell attached to her if I was able to discern it, be it as a human or a ghost. The MC can clearly have contact with her since he is MC kun and I assume he can therefore indeed smell whatever scent is on her. |

| Hm, if the ghost is anything like Yuuko from Duskmaiden's Amnesia, then sure. If you are receiving visual, haptic and aural stimuli, then it seemingly follows that you would be receiving olfactory and gustatory from the ghost (the latter, if you are into licking ghosts maybe..lol). Perhaps it is more appropriate to assume that your mind is playing tricks on you when receiving such stimuli, with the understanding that you have these specialized perceptions for things that don't exist in the physical sense. Ofcourse, there needs to be a leap of faith into believing something such as a 'spirit' force which manages to influence physical matter through unexplained logic. |
