Spotlight Anime: Wolf's Rain

MAL Series Information Page: Wolf's Rain

MAL Score - 7.89 (scored by 93,460 users)
Ranked - #725
Popularity - #373

For the next week I would like to have a discussion about the series that focuses on the key elements that we here on MAL use to critically rate an anime: Animation, Sound, Characters, Story, and Enjoyment.

I would like everyone to approach this thread as if you were going to write a review and structure your initial post like this:

Animation - insert rating
Sound - insert rating
Characters - insert rating
Story - insert rating
Enjoyment - insert rating

Animation - discuss any pros and cons of the animation styling used in the series, try to include some specifics.

Sound - describe any of the things you liked or didn't care for in regards to the music and sound effects used in the series

etc...

If you are having trouble writing up a review or coming up with specific pro's and cons, please don't worry. Just do the best you can with it and if you can only write two or three sentences about any of the 5 elements then that's OK. Not everyone here is currently at a level which will allow them to articulate their thoughts and opinions.

After your initial post is made you can feel free to civilly discuss issues of contention. I am sure there will be many opinions expressed here that some of us will disagree upon and criticize and it is for that reason that this entire club exists. So I hope everyone has fun and I am really looking forward to watching this discussion unfold.

I like Wolf's Rain, but I don't know why you would believe it to be outstanding.

Edit: Perhaps the character design is outstanding, and some of the chase scenes are beautiful - but not to any degree that would warrant induction.

I watched but the beginning of this series and it did not seem like anything out of the ordinary. Perhaps one of the better series I watched from that year but that was about it.
Though to be fair, I have yet to watch through this series in its entirety so that aspect of it might change over the course of doing so.
The dearer you hold a memory the more painful it becomes.

Dropped somewhere around ep 15 when the forced drama and the stupidity of the characters became unbearable.

I really liked the first couple episodes, but by the time the flower girl got introduced to the group and everyone was suddenly all over her because she smells good, it started getting annoying. Haven't felt like continuing to watch since that, even though I probably will. I want to know where certain elements are going to go. And hope the flower situation will get better.

Edit: The atmosphere was especially remarkable and the blend of real and metaphorical elements was also fun to observe.

There is nothing terribly wrong with feeling lost, so long as that feeling precedes some plan on your part to actually do something about it. Too often a person grows complacent with their disillusionment, wearing their discomfort like a favorite shirt - Johnny C.

And he still misses the plot-centric points to avoid spoilers. Yes, Wolf Rain can be quite sucky when it wants to.

Being reminded of some of those lowlights feels bad, but I don't think the show is that mediocre building an ambiance after all. I have it in a higher regard than Ergo Proxy for instance.

The quite bad music usage is not as widespread as he makes it out to be, with some quite memorable instances of it being shown in the video (and mind you they're even worse with the English dub).

And I'm not that convinced with the Cowboy Bebop comparison. Even if arguably a better series overall, it is much more light-hearted, it barely contains a main story to begin with and the characters are not that particularly engaging either.

Still Wolf's Rain would look like an unreasonable outcast in the club's inductions and its good elements don't blend together as well as they could.
