With all respect to singers from previous seasons, their voices were often very different from voice actresses and made it seem little unnatural, im glad in this season, characters share same voice for singing and speaking http://aikatsu-friends.wikia.com/wiki/BEST_FRIENDS!

I agree. I always felt it was a bit odd to have the disconnect. It was something that made Aikatsu unique, however.

It is possible it allowed them to have more concerts too? For example, I have no idea how Ohashi Ayaka (Mirai) is going to have time to do Aikatsu events in addition to being Uzuki in Idolmaster and Saaya in BangDream.

And Uma Musume, she have quite busy season, i hope she won't push herself oo hard, Yurika Endo had to retire from industry, due to health problems. While im happy they started to look for their health more, it shows how harsh this work is.

Risa-nee is one of my top girls in BangDream. I was so sad to hear about her retirement. I hope the new voice actress they select is a good fit.

So in Aikatsu it was common to contract two professionals for each character both a singer and a voice actress ?

That's correct, and they often had same singer for multiple characters.

From what i've watched so far, only Aikatsu and Aikatsu Stars had seperate voices for voice and sing. And yes, it was same for every character that sang in Aikatsu and Aikatsu Stars.

Tbh I have mixed feelings about this. It really works better this way, but I was a big fan of the idols, so I miss their voice and most of them were better than now. But it really works better when the VAs also sing the songs, so...

In theory it's fine but Aine's singing is really bad. Voice actors don't always make good singers and vice versa.

Many are speculating and saying that AiFriends will end by next year's September because Aikatsu is in hot water right now, lol. Aren't they crazy to treat this as a matter of fact or has this been confirmed somewhere ?

Who is speculating?

I've read comments discussing the future of AiFriends in talks among Aikatsu fans online be it on Youtube or elsewhere where they claim that the end of AiFriends is near and will end by next year due to the 'unsuccessful' run of Aistars which is supposedly forcing Bandai to plan a shorter run time for AiFriends.

So pretty much 49-52 episodes instead of 100+ of the others. The series did need a shorter run time. Idol Time Pripara didn't even have 100 episodes as well.

Yes, this is exactly what is being said. Do you think AiStars was a detrimental blow and Bandai might need to go back to the drawing board because of it ?

Yes, I think they need to go back to the drawing board in terms of story or maybe ditch the school setting entirely and try something a little different.

As much as I enjoyed AiStars to think that it could become a hurtful business decision in the eyes of Bandai pains me. lol

I haven't watched the original Aikatsu but what did it have that AiStars did not ? Was it better production values, a better story, or a stronger much more likable cast of characters ?

Personally, i found Stars to be much better than original Aikatsu, mainly thanks to better use of other characters than main character.

Then again, from what i heard, Ichigo was fan favorite, and Akari and later Yume weren't as popular as her.

Aikatsu Stars was a complete departure from the original, and i can't say it was for the best. granted, the performances were beautiful, but they added a rather unnecessary melodrama and put too much emphasis on being the best idol with the best possible dress. the introduction of wing cards meant that idols unable to get one fell into irrelevancy (something that can be seen right to the very end). Elza was supposed to be the perfect idol (tm), but her motives for getting the sun dress felt a bit weak, though i guess venus arch as a whole was consistent...until last episode happens.

Aikatsu, by contrast, felt a lot more light-weight and more true to "cute girls doing cute things". there was no unnecessary melodrama (at least nowhere near the extent shown in stars). probably the best example is powa powa puririn, an idol group that simply wouldn't work in stars.

they tried to change things a bit with season 2 - dream academy was an alternative to girls who couldn't get into starlight academy. season 2 was mostly a hit or miss, and most didn't like the dreaca girls getting too much spotlight.
i think it was still worth watching, if anything, because of the great performance from WM and 2wings near the end. they also slowly introduces the main character for season 3. the way the original transition focus from Ichigo as the main cast to Akari, it was really well done, and something other long-running shows should take notice.

finally, it might be worth comparing the "perfect" can do all performances without any practice whatsoever Elza vs "works harder than anyone else, wakes up at 3 am in the morning to practice dancing, and after coming back from work at 10pm, still practices until late to the point of ruining the floor" Mizuki.

someone mentioned idol time. that shows over-overused yumekawa meme, and that still is putting it lightly.

I think rather than AiStars or AiFriends lacking something the OGkatsu had, it might be more that lots of fans had followed the original series for FOUR years. So when Stars started, I assume a lot of fans bailed right at the start.

Also, the change to the DCD arcade game might have hurt the franchise, too? The OGgame by the endpoint had like, one hundred+ songs, you could play as any character, and each cycle there were new cards to collect. The cards were a hard type and to me, they really felt like collectibles.

When Stars started, we got a new machine and updated CG so it looked prettier, but all the Aikatsu songs and characters were gone, and it started over from just the main Stars girls and like 6 songs. The cards also became the flimsy unique printable type (copying PriPara). I was really sad when the DCD Aikatsu game went away...

Yes, there was no need to completely block OG Aikatsu cards and songs, especially when you sometimes see all OG and Stars characters together on one art.

Did same thing happened with Pripara and Idol Time?

I think Idol Time kept the songs (I never played it I can't confirm) because it technically was still a sequel and had the same machine.

I'm pretty sure Kiratto Pri-chan is starting from scratch, though.
