So okay, sorry in advance cause I already found some discussions for that but didn't find any like " sure " answer

I'd like to get myself into the Fate Series BUT, I heard that it's hard to watch Fate without playing some of the games, and actually since Fate seems pretty nice, I won't mind playing the games at all

So my question is, is there a particular order to understand the series + games better ? Like watching a season, then play a certain game, then a movie, that kind of thing

Thanks for your help, I hope I'm not too demanding !

Jokes aside, I think it's good to just start with Fate/Zero and 2nd season. I only watched it and I understood everything

Read Fate/stay night visual novel. you can play the other games and spin-off crap after finishing it.

If not, watch the anime in whichever wrong order you prefer.

She's a Fate/Grand Order character. And like I said, you can play FGO after FSN VN.
Playing it before the VN is possible but not recommended since it spoils a shit ton of servant identities.

1. Fate/Zero
2. Everything else

That's how I did it. The order doesn't matter that much, it's like trying to find the first country to go to when traveling the world.

Watch the three movies in reverse order first.

Then watch the 5 OVAs which introduce the series.

Skip the 2003 anime, it derives from the source material halfway through.

Watch the remake but skip eps. 5-9 and watch only the last 5 minutes of eps. 34, 51 & 76. Eps 89-95 is the filler arc.

And then watch the 5 spinoffs.

Although Fate/Zero comes before the 2006 version of the original Fate/stay night that Studio Deen adapted, you should really watch the 2006 version before anything else. I know that MAL lists Fate/Zero as a prequel to F/SN but the latter was released first. (so wouldn't this naturally mean you should watch in release order rather than chronological order?) The original adaptation isn't very good but you'll get a better understanding of the franchise by first watching Studio Deen's adaptation. Plus, I've played the visual novel and I'm pretty sure that you have to do the Fate route (ie Saber) before moving on to UBW (which is Rin's route) and finally Heaven's Feel. Just my opinion.

And yes, do play the visual novel.

Ok so for starters, I don't know anything about the games. I know the series is based off of the visual novels, but I never wanted to play them. Aside from that, though. I have the entire series listed by airing date. I like to binge large series every once in a while, so I find it helpful to go through the entire database and make a 'playlist' of all the seasons, specials, OVA's, movies and such. (If I'm not sure what order to watch a series, I always just do airing order).
This works well for any anime with a lot of seasons or that is just really confusing. I've done this for Index (12), Gintama (16), Fafner (7), Persona (16), Ghost in the Shell, and my current one, Gundam (68). I also plan on doing the monogatari series eventually.

I don't have the specific dates on there anymore (I delete them to clean up the list), but I can go through and put them back on if you want. I also have the type at the end to help identify each entry.

There were one or two entries I couldn't find, like Fate Prototype. I might've also taken off the first movie, but that was because it was just a remake/summary of the first series. I'm also pretty sure the Grand Order game is important (at least just because the anime doesn't really cover much of that one)

Here is a detailed explanation for it https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/wiki/seriesfaq-fate

Depends on the option there, i.e. what you want to do, only read the VN/watch the anime only, etc

I already replied this once to a similar topic, but let's reiterate.

Watch or read Fate/Zero. The end. The rest are garbage.

Personally, I started by playing FSN game and to this day I think it's the worst entry in the franchise that I've seen. The reason people get away with saying the game is better is because not many people play visual novels.

I played the VN first, then watch Fate/Zero and 2006's Fate/stay night~ I think it's better for you to watch Fate/Zero or 2006's Fate first, then play the VN. After that, watch UBW then the HF movie trilogy. Though IF ufotable remakes the Fate route, watch Fate/Zero first then the Fate route.

Try some of the franchise and see if you like it~ If you don't like it then, it's just not your type of anime which is understandable. Also, though I like the hero, you might hate or dislike the hero of Fate/stay night...
Mikura39Mar 8, 2018 3:05 AM

Help, I'm hooked into the Fate series (not all) and am obsessed with Shirou x Saber!
Also, forever hoping for a ufotable remake of the Fate route!

A lot of people have different opinions on where to start with Fate. Obviously the highly recommended option is to opt for the VN, but it is VERY long and will require at least 50 hours to complete.

If that's a little too much, then arguably the best place to start with the anime's is Fate/Zero seeing as how it's a prequel to the original Fate/stay night VN and anime. There are plenty of people who look down on Studio Deen's adaptation of F/SN, but it is watchable and is actually pretty good in of itself. Of course, either of the two is fine to start off with so that's up to you.

From there, watch Unlimited Blade Works (The TV series, not the movie. DO NOT watch the movie first as it is a heavily condensed version of the UBW route). Then you can start with the first of three Heaven's Feel movies.
After that, you can watch everything else in any order as all other Fate series are either spin-offs (Fate/kaleid, Carnival Phantasm) or alternative settings (Fate/Apocrypha, Fate/Extra).

Hope that clears it up for you and enjoy experiencing the greatness that is the Nasuverse. ^^ If you haven't already, you might want to check out the Kara no Kyoukai movies if you liked the Fate series.

Don't read the VN. The story is split into three routes, the third of which reveals/retcons information that casts a very negative light on the previous ones. It's much better approached as individual adaptions. When taken together its much less than the sum of its parts.

If we're disregarding the visual novels and talking about anime only, then my personal recommended watch order is this:

1. Fate Stay Night 2006
2. Fate/Zero
3. Fate Stay Night UBW 2014
4. Fate Stay Night Heaven's Feel movies by Ufotable

Fate/Apocrypha and Last Extra and those other spin offs are side stories and don't need to be watched in any specific order in conjunction with the main Fate storyline.

well the best way (and the one that takes longest i guess) goes like thi:
1 play the VN all 3 routes
2 read fate zero
3 hollow ataraxia
4 fate extra
5 apocrypha
6 your own choice
