So we lose 2 main characters in this episode, wtf is even going on. This episode made the show go from an 8/10 to a 9/10, it just keeps getting better and better with each New episode.

Yep, we didn't see whether he actually died or not. All we know is that she did. Though it's pretty clear from the deflector field physically crushing parts of both mechs that if Charon is alive, he's likely permanently out of the fight.

I'm gonna put it out this way to everyone complaining about Altair being OP

... She's like Hatsune Miku.
She's a beloved character with no "one" canon. Every music video she's in is a "canon"
And all of those are Hatsune Miku. Every incarnation. Every story. Everything.

Altair is just another representation of that. Somebody with no single set canon, somebody who is built up by their fans who create fanfiction, covers, songs, etc...

8V And that is why she's OP.

Whereas these characters are all set in their canon, an actually-published story that the viewers follow. There are fanfiction produced of them, artwork, etc, but unlike Altair, they have restraints that make them unable to do something that the majority of viewers will not approve of.

Altair does not have these same constraints.
In a way, you can see her as an "open source." Something anybody can do anything with.

That being said, I am beyond happy as much as broken by the development of this episode. Especially with the Creator's reaction.
As a creator, myself, I can assure you that yes. These emotions are all very, very much real when the stories play out how they do, even if they were planned that way from the start.
So imagine seeing them in something like this, in which you have no control, seeing your creations, your "children" get hurt, die, when they weren't meant to.

Re:Creators is a friggen masterpiece ; - ;
I love everything about this.
I just love it so much.

Best episode hands down, the action was incredible and both deaths were pretty big and impactful, especially Selesia's who essentially sacrificed herself to take down the man who she loved and admired more than anyone else.

Now how the hell are they going to kill Altair? She's got literal hacks.

Oh I didn't noticed...only 3 episodes left...
the fallen: Aliceteria & Selesia...oh man...much feels!
Damn! Blitz, Yuuya & Shou were surprised with Hikayu on how she was stronger than the whole mech of Charon!
Altair is really proven to be almost a god!
they need some salvation which is the creation of Souta powered by Magane!
OST still the best!
5/5.

Holy fuck this battle royal is not going how I expected.

I was thinking we might see Mamika get revived and team up with Alice (which could have potentially happened since Blitz's dead daughter was revived), but that didn't happen.

Then not only did we lose Alice who died in vain, but we ended up losing Selesia too!?!?!? One of the few everyone assumed would make it to the end!?! All just to kill that dense piece of shit Charon who I knew from the second they teased him he was going to be a dense piece of shit.

With only a few episodes left, the only things I can predict will happen are:

- Magane decides to join in the fight, and uses her word denying power to fuck with Altair's powers.
- Sota's "plan" consists of somehow writing a character version of Shimazaki to "revive" her into the mix so she can talk to Altair and have it mind fuck her (which the OP kind of seems to maybe hint at).

Though if it is the later option, I wonder if the conversation Magane had with Sota in episode 18, where she tells him his place is unlocked and will be set in motion had anything to do with Magane orchestrating it with her powers?

Someone mentioned that the end of the final episode might have everyone being shown back in their story worlds. I'd like to see that idea. Especially if they retain their memories (which even if they did they might not show it). I could imagine Selesia and Charon drinking coffee, Aliceteria's world being less fucked up, and then somehow they cut to Magane who managed to find a way to not get sent back and you see her just chilling in the real world as a final troll.

That is similar, but not exactly. Miku as it is now, became and international phenomenon. But Altair is just an underground creation. Being a collection of various niche stories and other media she still is not really all that well known to mass audience. Just remember how long did it took for main characters to discover her true identity? I just can't imagine how her amazing abilities can be justified to be more amazing and more powerful than those of characters with mass audience and full support of their creators? Sure some stories or videos may be known to more people, but that just can't be the same for every media she's in, but yet she said herself, that even at the present moment she is getting new powers and new abilities, how can that be, if our main characters need mass approval for their "power-ups" and she kind of doesn't?
The problem is, that when you have a character so powerful, that even a good plan can't beat, you can only defeat her with some kind of illogical deus ex machina.
Magane "unlocked" Sota, so like it was said in the above post, he will "create" Shimazaki and thus bring her back to life without approval of mass audience and whatever may happen after that is going to be illogical and stupid....

It seems to me that Altair does all this because of jealousy towards other characters. The fact that she said Hikayu also applies to her, so she can not become the main hero. Altair does not have his own story, and Setsuna's death is only a pretext for her actions. I thought about it after her appeal to the audience and Hikayu. I apologize for my bad english.

That was just a surprise attack.

Charon also have wave chants and a hell lot faster than other creations. Rui and Hikayu would be in deep trouble if he was free to fly around and attacked them with magics.

i dont think he out of the fight , he same like selesia can fight without mecha

lets predict if charon not die
1. he mad see selesia died and kill kanoya
2. he deflect and join another party to beat altair because sense of justice

I have to disagree.
Being in the creative setting, myself, I've known various people who have VERY popular characters (that are NOT in a mainstream game, video, etc). They have a minimum of a couple hundred followers, up to thousands, and that being considered, it's only limited to one site.
Said site is also international.
Now imagine that spreading onto twitter... instagram... Gaining even more followers, people doing even more fanart.
It's a niche, like you said, I agree wholeheartedly, but just because it's a "niche" doesn't mean that it doesn't have a huge impact on those who do follow it.
Like Gintama, for example. It's one of the more niche anime that has a HUGE but dedicated following. Outside of the anime community, and even then, with some of the anime community? A lot of people hadn't even heard of it!
And then you get into things like Tiger and Bunny, which even some super popular anime reviewers have never even seen it, and yet it's #1 in Japan right now.
That goes to say, that even if it's niche in one place, that it doesn't mean that it's not popular and well loved within its own niche.

It had already been established that Shimazaki was a phenomena in and of herself. She was one of the most popular artists on the website and even got to create stuff with a more renown artist. That was when people started calling her a cheat and a copycat, though. And just like a celebrity, you know you're big when a lot of people are talking smack about you, whether it's true or not.

The same can also be said about certain tumblr artists, for example. Again, it's a niche thing, but within the tumblr community, a lot of people know about them, but outside of it, many don't.

So the fact that Shimazaki was a very popular artist who ended up becoming notorious, meant that her stuff still had impact.
So with the last thing she ever created, Altair? She already had the following, be it from haters or supporters, and it only spread from there.
And again, being a creative myself, I can promise you, that a when many people (not all, of course) run into a design they really like, they'll do the research to figure out who the character is.
Fanart in and of itself is a way to spread the word of a creation. It gets even more followers, more fans.
And the fact that Altair was created by an already popular-yet-notorious artist gives her that advantage.

And then the fact that Altair was more or less a blank slate with no set story, she gained this ability to "absorb" every single version of her out there.
Because no single version was her exact canon.

edit: and being defeated? Well. It's been said multiple times that they can't defeat her physically.
So it's definitely gonna have to be some sort of twisted mind games at the end of it.
I think just about everyone thinks right now that Sota is going to create some character nearly identical to Shimazaki... But I guess we'll have to wait and see if the mass theory is correct.

I don’t think the Shimazaki history played out quite the way you stated. What I got from Sota’s reveal in episode 11 was that her artwork was reasonably good and popular, but she didn’t start getting the haters/notoriety until AFTER she created Altair with the Megalosphere producer Shimashima (depending on how you define notoriety).

I find it interesting that while many more people than Shimazaki contributed to Altair, who was a secondary creation to boot, Altair “talks” to Shimazaki and recognizes Sota. Think about it – Selesia and Meteora had to ask Sota to look up their Creators, but Altair knew who she was, and who HE was from episode 1. Why? She was created by someone other than Shimazaki, modified by Shimazaki AND Shimashima, and modified by many others later before this all came down. How does she even know Sota?
Oh, well. It wouldn’t be a good plot without making Sota feel personally responsible.

Farabeuf—
Why Selesia?
Simply because “There are so many other characters that I'd rather have seen buying the farm”.
We CARE about her, so the impact is greater. That’s why they killed Mamika – because we cared. It’s for the feels. How many posters here still want Mamika to come back?
These Re:Creators guys are very good with character development. Applause for Ei Aoki.

This is why I think Blitz will be the next one to get it. We care about him after his daughter, Erina, is resurrected. We care about Suruga when Blitz shoots her. How about if Altair kills Erina? We would care. Blitz would care. Suruga would care.

Ninja'd. Darn it. And Holy Hell that's one heck of a rape-face, Altair.

worth noting:

at 00:07 or so we get to see Altair floating over something in a recreation of this scene:

at 00:11 we see a purple ball flying towards Altair, possibly from Hikayu, though whomever the origin is Altair seems to be genuinely caught off-guard.

The location she's floating in front of is Wako Clock-Tower, in Ginza:

Nissan Stadium, where "elimination chamber festival" is taking place, is about 31km away, in Yokohama.

Character deaths in this week's episode:

Rui and Hikayu (most likely) though it could well be that everyone except for Magane and Meteora kick the bucket.

Which, by extension, means its probably towards the end of the episode and also means that what is left of Meteora's team gets put out of action or killed off, fast.

Episode 20: Blitz, Yuuya, Hikayu, Syo all crippled or dead. Rui is already crippled. Souta's character is likely summoned towards the end of the episode, given that Altair breaking out of the cage is a necessary prerequisite.

Magane isn't "part of the story," but her survival is necessary for Souta to summon his character once Altair breaks out of the cage and zeroes the audience's approval by appearing over the stadium (she needs to find meteora).

Episode 21: Formal introduction of Souta's character. Final fight begins. Audience flees stadium. Showdown between Souta + character vs Altair. Altair defeated or turned. Magane steps in as last boss, if she isn't already dead.

Episode 22: End of final battle and aftermath.

I don't think it will turn into such a bloodbath. We don't know if Altair has to kill everyone to succeed, after all her ultimate goal is to have the ability to break the cage and destroy the real world, not necessarily the creations.

Too bad Altair has been stated to be immune to all physical damages. They were only able to fight her because they gave themselves conceptual damage boost. She is too broken even if she didn't have physical damage immunity she could still just use Holopsicon and copy Saitama or just reflect the damage back at him.

Hmm. I'll have to go watch the episode again, but I got the impression that she created Altair AFTER she gained her "notoriety." I didn't get the impression that she had created Altair when she partnered up with the famous artist, but rather Altair was created as an outlet for Shimazaki in response to all the hate that came from partnering up.
And from the way Sota refers to Altair and how Altair acts, it only makes sense that this is how the timeline was set up.

Also I kinda figured that Altair knew who Shimazaki and Sota were because she spent a short in the real world/creator's world after coming into it 8V9 Hence those scenes we first saw when the government picked them all up.
Otherwise, there are some unanswered questions there: how did she know she was a creation from the start, unless she somehow had access to that knowledge anyways?

From episode 11, Shimazaki became popular, then she partnered up with Shimashima. a producer from Megalopshere.
From episode 8, Altair was created as a secondary creation off of Shirotsumekusa, and they share a common base – Megalosphere. So Altair was created during that partnership. The “World Etude” video shows that.
Back to episode 11, and after Shimazaki started working with Shimashima was when Sota started “to feel a lot of distance”. And after THAT was when she first was accused of plagiarism.
So plagiarism accusations were well after Altair was created, IMHO.

Otherwise, since she knows Sota, I’d be tempted to go with “Altair is Shimazaki’s ghost”.

So either this is one of those plot holes, or there is something special about Altair we haven’t been told, or we’re being set up somehow regarding Megalosphere, or…
The trouble is that, with 19 wordy episodes done, we should already have the info to figure this out.

From episode 8, Altair was created as a secondary creation off of Shirotsumekusa, and they share a common base – Megalosphere. So Altair was created during that partnership. The “World Etude” video shows that.

I don't think anyone made the connection that way since she more than probably had to stop working with Shimashima before committing suicide and releasing Altair as a secondary creation and her music video reflects a lot of her point of view. But having Altair's destiny change from a work of collaboration to something different according to the notoriety Setsuna gained sounds like an interesting theory.

Edit: Apparently she really was working on a video with Shimashima, while we don't know if it's the same video this actually might be very legit. But that is also around the time Souta distanced himself from Setsuna and was horrible with his artwork so I'm not sure if he's a contributor.

Double Edit: Since Shimashima is irrelevant to the anime I'm strongly against the idea that there is a case of co-creation for Altair.

We have the pink-haired girl with the emerald staff, Shirotsumekusa.
We have the white-haired girl in the picture frame. Altair the way Shimazaki drew her?
And then we have the military uniform Altair.

Per Marine and Meteora, for Altair to be a really well made secondary creation, she has to share Shirotsumekusa’s storyline. Their stories have to be consistent until Altair’s plot goes past the original story. Otherwise, Altair would be an original character.
I think that’s one part we’re missing – what was Shirotsumekusa’s story line?
Another part is: since Shirotsumekusa was not created by Shimazaki, how did she get permission to use the character? Had to be Shimashima.
Also, taking somebody else's creation and making a secondary creation from it sounds like co-creation to me. If anybody, Altair should remember Shirotsumekusa's creator, not Sota.

The story lines separated. Then, it appears everybody in Japan except Sota piled on and added capabilities.

She doesn't need to, it's fanfic. That's what I think.
Also refer to ABYSSwaltz for a snippet of Shiro's backstory.

And if you care about timing, the nice Troyca people dated almost every screen capture.
Jan 8 2016 – their first email.
April 30 2016 – they go to the convention.
June 1 2016 – Shimazaki featured as up-and-coming artist.
Etc.

I’m not going to list the whole timeline – it has nothing to do with an Episode 19 discussion. But you can determine it all, including when she jumps in front of the train and when the Creators discover Altair ("She's been offline for 3 months").

Um...it's not fanfic if she's doing it with a famous Megalosphere producer, making a secondary creation from a previous Megalosphere creation.

This MV was on her personal channel and Altair has no official affiliation to Megalosphere. You're paying attention to a lot of details like the timeline but you are wrong at the fundamentals

Could be. I don't claim to be right, just to have data to back up my claims.
Re-watch the first 6 minutes of episode 8, after the OP, and tell me again how Altair is unrelated to Shirotsumekusa, Megalosphere, not a secondary creation, etc.

That data dump was by the Creators. They could be wrong - Meteora has been on other occasions - but they are pretty certain about Altair being a secondary creation of Shirotsumekusa, related via Megalosphere.

In all honesty, I hope they don't revive Selesia magically. We have seen characters can die for real in this anime and that is great, because it makes the story so much more realistic and exciting. The fact that Mamika died shows the staff actually had some sense on them to step out of that "perfect world" b******t I'm so tired of seeing. I'm hoping they won't ruin this great, tense atmosphere by rolling magic and reviving Selesia. Though I know Sota's idea will save the day magically. Oh, well.

Good episode, this anime is probably the best of the year or one of the best, the series is coming to climax, I just hope they can handle it.

As for the chapter, Altair is cancer, the greatest cancer I've ever seen, I hate this character as much as I hate the suzaku of code geass.

Altair is too op for the series, has manipulation of chance, can withstand large amounts of damage and seal it or send it to another dimension does not serve, lightning and the way I kill Alice and mock her fills me with rage, really I will enjoy when I see her die at the end: D.

The thing about Selecia is really sad and unexpected, I do not see it badly or at the moment, only I was rushed to put it simply, m ... they really left me wanting more on this occasion.

What? Selesia is dead!!! ; _ ; i can understand the Aliceteria death, because how Altair explained, she was a secondary character in the plot, but the Selesia death is ....sad ;_ ;

I hope a strange "mahou" revive all the deaths, because this has way to be a deathmatch, with one winner!!! kekeke
