Is it just me or does this season just not look as good as the first one? I know the director changed, but aside from that I feel like everything doesn't look as good as it used to. I remember thinking that the first season of AoT looked incredible and I loved just looking at it, I really don't feel the same with this one.

Dude you better be trollin, this exact thread has been created multiple times every day so I can never tell. Go rewatch the first season, come back and you'll realise they look almost identical, with S2 looking slightly better. The only thing is the use of more CG but that's I think due to a lack of staff.

Yes, the animation is really really poor considering how they promised to deliver a higher standard than S1. Sorry you're disappointed but it's better to just not give a shit and simply watch it for the plot.

If you haven't read the manga, i'd recommend dropping the anime and reading that. This series is nothing more than hype fodder.

No I'm not and I haven't stumbled upon another thread about this, sorry. I did exactly that and I can't shake the feeling. Maybe it is the use of CG, the first season has more of a drawn and "warm" feeling, while this one tends to look steril and somewhat cold.

I am doing exactly that now. But the first season gave me both: a thrilling plot and great looking animation, so yeah, I'm a bit disapointed. I have seen art from the Manga and I was really not impressed. Maybe I'll pick up an issue and see for myself.

Art on paper will always have it's limitations but the manga did a much better job of depicting the plot for me in terms of facial expressions + the detail is on what matters. Anime on the other hand will naturally skimp out details of the plot but I feel like after 6 episodes they're leaving too much out; the pacing is really annoying.

While I do slightly regret not being to enjoy the hype, reading the manga definitely has had it's benefits because I at least have a proper comparison to fairly judge this series + I have a fair idea of what they're delivering with this series.

You can always just read the manga online or download an app, if you can get over the artwork I promise you will thoroughly enjoy it. Giving up on the anime is a worthy sacrifice imo, at least you won't be setting yourself up for disappointment + will have a shot at properly enjoying the plot in it's entirety without the jarring annoyances of skipped content/animation inconsistencies etc.

In my opinion, Season 1 has a lot of flaw in its animation. The problem was later fixed during the later episodes when they have more budget to hire more animators and drawers due to immense popularity when the first few episode of AoT was released. Season 2 animation is very fluid....only downside is the CGI but its tolerable.

@Touka__Kirishima Does the 2nd season of anime skip content? I'm going to read manga once the anime finishes airing (I enjoy it so I'm not going to drop it) and I was going to start where the 2nd season leaves off but maybe I should start where the 1st season left off instead?

It's better than Season 1. Only thing on the downside is the CGI.

Taking the colossal CGI aside, the animation is pretty neat and looks almost the same as Season 1, if not, better.

Your memories are embellishing season 1. Rewatch it and you'll see that it doesn't looks as good as season 2.

As for the CGI, it isn't worse than season 1. The models they are using in season 2 are basically of the same quality that the ones used in season 1 (rewatch episodes 17-22 for more cgi horses).

The only thing that doesn't look as good as season 1 is
. Otherwise everything looks better or at least as good.

What shock factor? It was only at first 5 episodes of season 1 and after that you already knew that more characters are gonna die.

The anime has been faithful to the manga. I don't understand some people saying it left out a lot of content. If anything, it added more. Rearranging scenes are different from skipping them.

Anyway... you can go ahead and read where season 2 ends but it's not a bad idea to skim previous chapters just to see how the manga did it differently. And what scenes from the anime are original.

And to answer the OP, aside from a couple of CGI stuffs, S2 has better animation. Godly animation. I've been rewatching S1 ever since S2 started airing and characters in S2 are drawn with such meticulous details. I mean, have you seen Historia? But yeah they aren't that much different. But in no way was S1 better in terms of animation.
