Monogatari Series: Second Season
| Further details are unknown. Though it is one of the author's habit naming characters with puns/wordplays, the name are pretty much unconvincing for something real. Take example, Tsukihi's bf name: Rousokuzawa. Rousoku is pun on 'candle', Tsukihi's name being one of fire aspect further proves the pun. Mizudori, Karen's bf name: Mizu is water. Karen has fire in her name. Though the kanji of both rousoku and mizu is not the actual 'candle' and 'water' kanji, they are intended pun, IMO. |
| I think it's most possible that their boyfriend is real. But the LN not fully translated yet so no concrete prove about those rumor about why it real or not though. Yeah the wiki is misleading, that's why i want to read a fully translated LN since it's true that Shaft cut some of the scene in the series, well not the crucial one, it was just pieces of information that we didn't get like something like this. |

| I don't really remember the details since it's been a long time since I've watched any-Monogatari save for Hanamonogatari recently, but didn't they made them up based on Koyomi's image? For example, Karen's boyfriend is shorter than her since Koyomi is shorter than her and vice-versa for Tsukihi. |

| It is highly possible that they could be lying given the troll nature of Monogatari. I mean the season is even called NISEmonogatari. |

| I think the boyfriends are real. Other posters have mentioned that the info they provided is from Neko: Kuro and Nise, both of which are shown from Koyomi's POV. In Neko: Shiro (both the anime and the novel), it's stated that Koyomi is jealous and worried that his sisters are being taken away from him (a typical doting/over-protective big brother reaction), and so pretends the boyfriends don't exist. This also provides a possible reason as to why the boyfriends are portrayed more strongly as not existing in Neko: Kuro and Nise (I actually don't remember those myself, since it's been a while since I last saw/read Neko: Kuro, and even longer since I last saw Nise, so I'm just going by what others have said), since, again, they're from Koyomi's POV. In Neko: Shiro, not only is Koyomi's POV nowhere to be found, but the boyfriends are mentioned in a conversation he's not involved in, and in the context of making a point about Tsubasa. In that context, I can't see any point in playing up non-existent boyfriends. Also, in that conversation both Karen and Tsukihi are (for the most part) being straight with Tsubasa. The only thing they're not straight about is that Koyomi asked about love regarding her, not Senjougahara. Given that, it doesn't make sense they'd lie about their boyfriends to Tsubasa. Also, while I'm pretty sure the wordplay in the boyfriends' names is intentional, that on its own isn't any kind of indicator that they're not real. It could just be fitting, because both Karen and Tsukihi's names have the kanji for "fire" in them. (Nisio doesn't seem to use wordplay randomly). Also, the fact that Karen's boyfriend is shorter than her doesn't mean anything. Karen is really tall for her age, so it's natural that most boys her age would be shorter than she is. That seems to be a pretty simple explanation. |
| In Nekomonogatari Kuro ep 1 Koyomi asks Tsukihi about her bf and why she fell in love with him, she refused to tell why and said that she just kind of did and by her reaction one can assume she meant Koyomi, and there is possibility that even if her bf was real he would resemble Koyomi. and then she make him to think that he doesn't love Tsubasa just lusts for her, so one can think she didn't want him to date Tsubasa. |

| The boyfriends are both real and not. By means of breaking the 4th and 5th wall on this anime, Araragi himself became part of the staff as he seems have the authority to approve or disapprove the proposition of their existence. While He denies them, the boyfriends does not exist. His sisters however are part of the staff that introduces the idea about the boyfriends and is relying on Araragi if it will be approve or not but it is obvious that they are just aliases they give to Ararargi and their actions/status just mirrors Araragi. The proposed characters does not even have no script of their own at all. They probably just want an Araragi of their own. Araragi,Tsubasa&Gaen seems to have advance knowledge about the events that will happen as well as the info as their dialog implies. These characters are part of the staff. Some of them have more knowledge than the other and some have complete knowledge about everything about the anime. |
