Cool, feels like Natsuki is showing his improvement as a rugby player.

I thought the episode had a good roughness to it. Coach sees that their team is improving and encourages them to do better. Gion's entry into the second half of the show is impressive. He's improved as a flanker!

The rugby match was pretty tense. Loved the momentum the kept this episode. There's just that one guy (Renpei, I think) ) who got pretty salty on his team and lashing out on his own teammates. Bad sportsmanship imo.

Good episode.

Match is pretty cool, Entire Ginko showing great improvement. The first try was really awesome.
Glad to see Gion playing as well, he played really well, rather he fulfilled his mission to help his teammates really well. :)

The opponent team has pretty much fallen apart due to internal strife, pretty interesting how Komori coach reasoned this out due to the lack of tradition. What would you call Ginko's tradition? Push forward or something?

Loved the Sekizan try at the end, that was so cool as well.

Rugby question here, do the players always need to dive to score a try?

Finally Gion got a function that combines with what he trained in the whole anime until now, Natsuki finding himself as a rugby player, he almost got out of the team and Sekizan's try in my opinion served to prove the team's valour, they can beat the giants and become one of these giants as well

@Lelouch0202 No, you don't have to dive to score a try, you just have to be in control of the ball while pressing it down to touch the ground behind the line.

I've been getting a bit restless waiting for the action to start, but it's been worth it. Great seeing the team hitting their stride and Gion finding his place and his purpose.

As usual, Sekizan rules. If I had the ball and suddenly saw him in front of me I'd feel a sudden urge to be somewhere far, far away!

Great episode this week.
Renpei is such an asshole tho. I really don't care how sad of a backstory he might have had, you don't tell your teammates to die.
Finally we get to see Gion play and boy did he do such a great job in this episode, helping his teammates. Glad to see him doing an impressive job on field :D Lol'd when he was like I need my notebook while he was playing XD
Really enjoyed the game so far. Loved the episode. Excited for next week :D

Start of the episode. When they stopped Sekki-kun, what the heck were the forwards doing? Combing giraffes? They should have gone right in to push him forward, making a maul. Luckily the other team didn't either and they weren't paying enough attention to notice Ise who did a great job afterward anyway.

Renpei should step down from rugby and go into a sport who lacks fair-play (I have one in particular in mind). Or quit team sports altogether.

In the second half, there seems to be more support in Jinko's team. But Gion tackling someone that doesn't hold the ball? That's not allowed in rugby. It's a foul. The ruck wasn't formed yet. It's not the tackler that forms the ruck, but another player. Thus that cannot be classified as a "sweep". The sanction is a penalty kick. The author doesn't look like he has a clear understanding of the rules.

Sekki's tackle at three minutes from the end of the episode. As far as I know, you have to wait until the one who jumps touches the ground, before tackling. I haven't seen any of number 14's (wing) feet touch the ground. Another foul. Penalty kick needed here as well.

Now, excluding the rules broken (I double-checked them to be sure. Did nobody notice them?), it was an enjoyable episode. Gion did a great job in supporting the team: he might really become a good flanker.

@LockSpeedster Yes, my brother and I noticed the tackles and had a quiet chuckle about the liberties they take. We don't really mind too much - this is anime, after all - for real rugby, where refs penalise every slight infraction of the rules, we always have the weekends to watch actual teams play.

I am just happy to see them play rugby again after so many weeks of character back stories.

it seems there are way too many anti-fun rules in rugby. i guess american football is just way superior.

I agree, some facial expressions are unbearable, and the chara design doesn't help either.

@Dreampanther Such as the Six Nations tomorrow. I still have to catch up on last week. Will do in the morning.

@GangsterCat Tastes, as @WakeUpDeadMan said. I prefer rugby. No ace striker, no quarterback. The "man of the match" as we call the best player can be anyone from any position in the team and can change every match. And I prefer when the man of the match is a lock or a flanker, though, since these have always been my favourite roles. Tackling people and other stuff is very fun even with the "anti-fun" rules you mentioned.

Good episode.
Wanted this match to kinda end this episode though, there's only 7 episodes left.. Crossing my fingers for season 2.

Anyone knows how much material we actually have left?

I have really been worrying about this show. It's so much slower than all the other shows from last season. Hell at least three years spanned in Yuri on Ice alone. I couldn't get into All Out as much as the other shows for that reason, but this match and this episode specifically threw all that out the window. It's becoming a real sports anime now. Because of the slow pace before you can't deny that the truly mastered the fundamentals of rugby. Haikyuu didn't even complete all the basics even now. Tempo wasn't even mentioned until second season, so actual rugby fans won't be annoyed like many volleyball players were. Development past this point won't be anything simple like fundamentals. From here on they are going to become incredible. They are going to get strong, and it's going to be amazing to watch - I can just feel it.

I love that all the studying Gion did is showing, I love that they aren't keeping him as a dumb plucky main character like they did in Days. He's developing appropriately and quickly in direct correlation to the insane amount of passion and drive he exudes. He is becoming useful, he is becoming fun to watch rather than annoying. That's when you know a sports anime gets good.

This episode was sick, loved seeing the entire team develop.
