For anyone interested to know which summer anime gave the biggest boost to its source material (these are just based on the sales of first volumes before and shortly after the anime with the date on the horizontal axis): 1) Prison School Compared to its June sales ( before the release of the anime ), the sales of the first volume of Prison School in July almost tripled ( multiplied by 2.6 ) . 2) Gangsta Compared to its sales in June, the sales of the first volume of Gangsta have doubled after the broadcast of the anime in July. 3) Himouto! Umaru-chan Sales of the first volume have quadrupled in July ( 4.2 times ) compared to sales in June 4) Gakkou Gurashi Sales of the first volume of Gakkou Gurashi in July have increased by a factor of 26.5 compared to sales in June. It is ranked only 4th below those mentioned above because the first volume of Gakkou Gurashi made very few sales before the anime. 5) Aoharu x Kikanjuu Sales of the first volumes of the manga have almost doubled ( 1.7 times ) after the release of its animated. 6) Akagami no Shirayukihime Sales of Volume 1 of Akagami No. Shirayukihime almost quadrupled ( 3.5 times ) after the release of the anime compared to its sales in June |

Also, among its 2012 release, Shokugeki is 3rd in sales ranking . Jump needs to promote this series more . In 2013-2014 Haikyuu!! jumps from 2,056,211 to 8,283,709 (anime released in October) Also, can anyone explain to me the huge boost in Assassination Classroom this year please? Someone mentioned it is not from the anime or the live action movie . |

Top 10 (based on the sales that we know) has been updated for the August monthly rankings. Some did not get any additions, because their monthly sales have already been completely covered by the Top 10 weekly manga series data for the period of August 3 to 30. giathuan2707 said: Which 'huge' boost? I think my analyses regarding AssClass's performance might interest you:Also, can anyone explain to me the huge boost in Assassination Classroom this year please? Someone mentioned it is not from the anime or the live action movie . Agafin said: geralt said: I thought AssClass got a solid boost from the live action movie (or was it an OVA) that aired before the anime and that was why the anime had little to no effect in expanding the audience of the series. As for OPM, it if does become a 1 million seller it'd be amazing. No, AssClass's movie started after the anime (anime: Jan 9, 2015, movie: Mar 21, 2015). It's best vol sold 910k without an anime in 2013, the best a series has done without an anime since SnK in 2011 (895k+ whatever the limited edition sold). http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2013-12-01/top-selling-manga-in-japan-by-volume/2013 It dropped to 772k in 2014. http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2015-01-02/top-selling-manga-in-japan-by-volume-2014/.82827 Anime started in January and had no visible effect in the Top 50 (a boost might have been happening below it's threshold) Then two months later (in the week of Mar 9-15, two weeks before the movie), various promos were made for the movie which boosted and made some AssClass's volumes appear in the Top 50 for a few weeks. http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=1363533 http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=1365946 http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=1368601 http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=1371295 ( http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=1376227 <this week is the last with volume 1). It's best volume sold 894k the first half of this year. http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2015-05-31/top-selling-manga-in-japan-by-volume-2015/.88772 So right now AssClass is slightly more popular than in 2013 but might not hit 1 million. So in short, the anime's failure at boosting it isn't attribuable to the movie, the movie itself came after it and didn't give it an extraordinary boost either. Agafin said: geralt said: @agafin Yeah, those volume 2 sales are really out of the ordinary, maybe it had some kind of promotion or event along with it? I cant think of any other explanations for it to sell better than what the volume with the anime did. Also, it was the OVA that was released before the anime (in October 2013) and not the movie, my bad. Still, considering that happened about 10 months later than when volume 2 came out, I doubt it was the cause of the boost. Yup, OVAs rarely ever cause any significant boost since they can't reach a lot of people like tv series or movies due to their very nature and are probably made for people who were already fans. From what I know, AssClass vol/chap 1 was really well received by Jump readers, they loved the artstyle and especially the jokes and puns which appeal heavily to Japanese it seems. This made it's first chapter end up first on the ToC weekly rankings, something that hadn't happened since Eyeshield 21. It's first volume then sold 121k in 3 days and 208k in 10 days which I think is a record. It also became the most talked show on 2ch. All of this made Jump/Shueishia realise how much potential there was in it and it decided to lower all the promotions it was doing for Toriko in favour of AssClass. AssClass was really the Jump manga with the most promotion after One Piece in 2013. There was even a point when it had three Cover/color pages in the span of just 7 weeks/issues while some series have none in a whole year (like Bleach, I think) so it was impossible for a Jump reader to not have read at least one chapter of it. This in turn caused volume 1 and 2 to be immensely boosted. Vol 1 made the Top 50 list about 10 (non consecutive) times in 2012 and 11 times in 2013 (SNK's boost started in April of 2013 making the threshold too high for AC to appear anymore). Vol 1's sales were divided between two years (2012 and 2013) which is why vol 2 was the best selling volume that year. Apparently it peaked that year and started declining later and the anime couldn't bring in more fans than Jump's promotions did (the live action movie could, though). |

But the anime and figures are selling well lol . 2012 sales : 1,299,723 2013 sales : 1,558,973 2014 sales : 1,349,681 Currently : 574368 + 122,638 = 697,006 --------------------------------------------------------------- Is Owari no Seraph that bad ? I'm planning to buy the English volumes . Hopefully vol 15 of Shokugeki will reach half a million . If Owari no Seraph is that bad, do you really think it will get on the top many times already? And it will not a 2 cour anime adaptation and it will not get this popular? So yeah, Owari is not the most awesome but it is also not that bad. And if people think that Japanese taste are weird, then they are also saying that the other on the top beside Owari is also sucks. And they might also tell that western people's taste are also weird coz Owari is also topping at the english book best selling. So they should deal with it XD |

SnK's next volume is in December I think, so yeah it won't be counted this year. It still has a shot at third place, though, considering it's got legs and I could see it reaching 8.2/8.3, which is about what I'd expect AssClass to sell with its next volume. Kingdom is also part of this race, lol, which makes this year's third place really hard to predict. |

It has good chances of being huge. I know it will be big. OK. I never denied that but many people think it will sell like 1 mllion per volume. And it isnt that hard to be the most hyped anime in next season because there like almost no very big competator. |

Considering there are 9 volumes, if each gets about 200k in backlog sales it should make it to 4 million. Ehh. Why would OPM get 200k each in backlog sales? that's practically impossible for it. It's highest sales before the anime is 500k per volume in a year. especially considering the anime will most likely be a flop. It's less popular than NNT and Haikyuu! before their anime. Yes, why is everyone thinking it will be something like AoT. Attack on Titan is a once in a decade deal, no way OPM will come even close it, and I don't think anyone here thinks it will. Or it wont rank in charts, who knows. I saw on both Yaraon & nico most responses filled with praise on episode 1 & how MadHouse adapted it. But I personally don't see 1 mil as an impossibility, the only hindrance to that is the fact that it's more gag than battle oriented and ofc it's seinen. But it's already selling better than Gintama so who knows. If Madhouse adapts and markets well, then it can lead to high tv ratings like Ore Monogatari, causing big boosts (like Kiseijuu or Overlord). Nothing is set in stone yet. |

It's not that one volume will reach 1 mil. copies sold, but previous volumes will start selling because of the anime boost, so assuming volume 1 has 500k sold copies it could reach somewhere between 700-900k, it happened with other manga that got anime adaptation. And as Agafin said, even without a anime it manages to sale around 400-500k copies, where other manga without a anime adaptation sells around 200-300k that is if it's popular enough, Boku no Hero Academia is a good example. |

I find it ironic how you shitpost and pretend you know your shit about sales and the industry when you are more ignorant than the others. Old madhouse: 1998) 19,418 Cardcaptor Sakura (カードキャプターさくら) (2006) 15,021 DEATH NOTE (2002) 10,998 Chobits (ちょびっツ) (2006) *7,376 NANA (1999) *7,745 Di Gi Charat (1998) *5,816 TRIGUN new Madhouse (2014) 11,887 Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei (2014) *8,316 No Game No Life ( (2010) *6,875 HIGHSCHOOL OF THE DEAD (2012) *4,773 Oda Nobuna no Yabou (2014) *3,648 Hanayamata (ハナヤマタ) [3/6 Vols] (2013) *4,045 Diamond no Ace (2013) *3,235 Chihayafuru 2 Old madhouse clearly had more hits. http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=781179&show=20#post37 |

OPM being a big hit after the anime is unlikely. The only manga that got big boosts from a Madhouse anime was already established names like Hunter x Hunter (I'm not sure if you can even count it, since there was just reprints of the Chimera ant arc, which would have sold if the anime existed or not, the sales was on the same level HxH sold at, anyway) and Parayste (90% of the boost came from the live action movie, the anime was mostly irrelevant to anything) Chihyafuru, OreMonogatari, Diamond no Ace, all had pretty average boosts. |

Mahouka's boost was underwhelming to say the least LOL. Compare it to SAO. I bet if A-1 picture adapted it, it would have been a much bigger hit. IIRC Mahouka was on the same level of SAO before anime, but didn't manage to reach SAO's level after the anime. I can admit to NGNL. Lol DnA and Chihyafuru didn't have great boosts at all. Just average. I don't care about overlord to notice it's sales.. |

Manga that reach 500k per volume before an anime: AssClass Sakamoto desu ga? (it went as far as 900k in a year o_o) Nanatsu no Taizai Kyou wa Kaisha Yasumimasu (because of the J-drama) Sangatsu no Lion REAL (480k) and some others. |

Did Nanatsu have a volume like that? :o I remember Sakamoto Desu Ga, yeah that did sold a lot. The way I put it was that it sells good, because most of the top selling manga have a anime, so the publicity for it it's greater than the ones that don't. |
