There's rarely any contributional threads. Out of the two entire pages of threads, you'll find max 3-5 threads that promote discussion and not just random chat. The topics are stupid as fuck, I'm not even kidding. You could see for yourself as well.. Shit like 'what woul you do if you were the only hot person in the world', 'how do I confess to a girl', '[serious help thread] my gf just dumped me, 'ever rejected someone', 'ever broke up with someone' , 'my pet fish just died', 'why am I the smartest person from all my friends', '[serious help thread]my parents are doichebags .. Help ', 'any Israeli people out there?' 'How cool are you' .... Etc, etc. I report these threads each time and the next day the same damn user will make a new thread that basically has the same shit as before. This board is completely unmodderated as chat threads last more than 2 weeks if no one report them. Sometimes even if someone report them because I'm pretty sure tons of reports are ignored. Oh, and these are just the threads. The replies are just as worse.. 'Im the coolest guy', 'I reject so many girls', 'All women want me', 'I love 2D', 'I want to fuck hatsune miku', 'you don't need a gf when you have (insert anime girl name)., and most of all huge arguments that do nothing but insult users. 'MAL is shit, every user is retarded haha', 'Oh you are so arrogant you don't know shit, 'Oh please you troll.. Go back to your basement' teruu said: The problem is not a few posts.. More than 90% of the threads and posts break the rules. Not even half of them get reported because it's got to the point that it's deemed completely normal. The ones that do don't really change anything.. At best the post will get deleted .. And the user will just continue breaking the rules. You say this is a problem in moderation efficiency and indeed it is.. While that is the case, this is not the first time the issue is addressed and I really can't see any plans from the mods to start modderating CD more. It's almost as if the shit is too much to deal with and they can't be bothered. So really...it's much better to have the shit removed than let the rule breakers continue on with the shit. . Removing this whole board will do plenty of good things as then mods will have to deal with less reports, no more bullshit topics can be created that clearly break the rules. Ive heard a lot that mods have too much stuff to deal with here so this will clearly help as this board is probably one of the most popular ones. Rules will be broken much more lesser, and yeah.. I'm pretty sure there's other good shit about removing this board as well but I can't think of anything else. WEll anyway.. Yeah. Edit: apparently it turns out some people are completely unaware that Casual Discussion even had any rules to start with or just can't process what they read.. I'm going to put the link here for whoever would like to see the rules. http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=516113 |

But what if the CD only users branched to other boards? they will ruin them. I say keep the the worst of the toxicity on this site in one place. But yeah I don't see why Casual Discussion and Current events exist in these forums. |

And yes while the rule breakers will spread to other boards, the other boards are much more moderated than casual discussion. Rule breakers will most likely get banned at a point. |

I mean..they'll probably go to AD and that place is like the 2nd worst toxic anyway or join Series Discussion wars. There's hardly a place in MAL that isn't toxic from what I've seen, except Forum Games maybe. Current Events isn't too bad but it can get heated too, no lie. |

Not going to happen, and for good reason: it creates more problems than it solves (none). CD brings activity to the MAL forums that it brings. Bringing higher quality standards to the community without shaking up the activity would be better approached differently than removing CD. I'll try to dig out an essay I've written on this matter once or twice... or twenty times... |

Kineta posted the criteria for moderators a while back, but I don't know where to find it. Kineta herself has stated that even with the eligible people on the criteria they have today, the people who accept the moderation position when offered is very low. The job is already undesirable for most, for me it seems unwise to put too many restrictions on it. If the staff needs help moderating then they should recruit. Especially with all the changes they're planning to make. I'll be honest here, there are 10+ forum moderators. I visit almost every board in MAL and it's only like 2-3 Mods that I see locking down threads every time. Hell, I thought Tyrel was the only mod for a long time. I know mods have other duties in MAL too plus real life but these places really need cleaning. |

Narmy said: They just need a rule against attention whoring. A lot of threads in CD are obvious troll/bait threads. Can't happen as people assume the attention whoring to be in many different ways. For example, tons of users accuse others of being attention whores if they type something that they don't like/ want to see. Another context could be when some person creates the 'my gf just dumped me. help' thread and you would assume this person to be attention whoring however tons of other people would say that you are being insensitive towards him and that he just needs advice. And as for the troll/bait threads, the replies aren't really any better with posts such as ''Get a life. I bet you live in your parent's basement , 40 year old loser'. |

Well they could at least get rid of the really obvious attention whoring threads like these: http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=1423322 http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=1420466 http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=1423310 http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=1423219 http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=1422937 And that's just the first page of CD. |

Shoulda have never changed General Discussion to Casual and left it as Chat. Regardless, it's been requested before and had a pretty long discussion IIRC, seeing as how it's still as it is, guess it didn't do much. |

This backlash will exist as long as spam board is gone. I have been saying this for a long time now.. either bring it back or moderate the shit out of CD. But when it does get moderated they make mistakes or users think it was unjustified to lock certain threads.. Anyways Removing CD doesn't seem that realistic :v |

I comprehend rather perfectly what you wrote, the issue here being that you are completely wrong and expect a forum to make an essential part for its functioning disappear just because of a number of threads and users. This is if anything an issue of lack of resources/efficiency in moderation, not a matter of removing actually useful subforums because "too much troll" that most of the part is not even allowed by the rules and can actually be reported and taken care of. Casual Discussion is the Off Topic subforum of MAL. Make a quick search and tell me how many forums don't have an Off Topic section. And keep your condescending tones for yourself. |

You want an entire board removed due to a lack of proper moderation? Are you a mod in disguise?. If anything, I find the rules in CD to be bloody stupid. Not supporting, CD is a nice place to post because of the laid-back topics. Cherry picking a few stupid recycled threads that you reported doesn't make the entire board shit. It's the most active board in the forum, what's gonna happen if it's removed? Indeed, removing the entire board makes the workload decrease, why not remove AD too? It's meant to contain the trolls, or so I've heard. That's why CD is a great refuge. Is this Suggestion even serious? I can't tell. |

Still not getting the point that a subforum exists to offer an alternative of discussion, if 90% of the threads and posts break the rules then the solution is making moderation more efficient and not removing an entire subforum with the specific purpose it was created under, which is actually useful to keep a coherent structure in this forum and have a place to label any threads and discussions that don't fit in either of the rest. As said it's the Off Topic section of MAL, which equals to being essential in most if not every forum on the internet. So if you want to remove it bring an alternative that covers the same purpose. And if you want to simply get rid of the shit it's overpopulated with then ask for better moderation. What else can I say. Oh yeah, and the old "you were offended for nothing" bullshit. Sorry. I was probably overreacting at your very subtle insinuation that I didn't comprehend your post/thread or just aimed to moderate it. |
