Lol you do know the anime helped the manga sell over 800k copies per volume recently? Oh cool then you should know that Durarara had a bigger drop compared to TG which means the adaptation could be considered a fail and it didn't even give a decent boost to the source material unlike TG so yeah... Also mind explaining how Durarara benefits from being more popular than TG despite having shit sales? And I'll admit that it's true that the anime hasn't really given a decent boost to the source material. However, I don't think that matters. The light novels sold well for a long time, and I am perfectly fine with that And stop stalking me, this is becoming ridiculous |

On the sales, decent sales for this single that doesn't have any bonuses bundled and is not associated with the anime at all. Even that Cinderella Girls single with an event ticket serial code could not beat it... We know what an event ticket can do for Love Live, with BD 2nd Season Vol.1 selling 82K+ in the 1st week, but the music doesn't need one anyway. The mobile game serial code does more than enough anyway. I also can't wait to see how high the Love Live movie grosses, and how high the movie BDs and the 5th concert sells. The 4th concert is almost at 60K and has no bonuses at all, so the fanbase is pretty big for a late-night anime franchise. And this is underestimated as a lot of people bought G4U bundles. I shall post G4U sales tomorrow when Famitsu rankings will be up for people who are interested to know the exact sales. Has an event ticket serial code on the standalone BD and also an event ticket serial code for a separate event on the G4U game bundle: http://imas-cinderella.com/package/01.html Fans of Idolmaster have to double dip there to get both ticket serial codes. Obviously it will not sell anywhere near this from Vol.2 onwards unless they bundle event ticket serial codes on all the volumes. That's a really really sleazy strategy that only the likes of Bandai and Aniplex could come up with together and reeks of their tendency towards DLC, though I guess with Idol fandom that's one of those times people aren't really going to complain about it. Anyway I find the situation with Idolm@ster in Japan kind of amusing because a lot of commentators are just in such full blown denial about certain things more than I've ever seen, like for example LL just being the more popular of the two idol franchises at this point in time no matter how you try to spin it. I mean first lets just get this out of the way, it's ultimately the same company making money at the end of the day regardless of what happens, but some IM@S fans animosity towards Love Live seems to be making them literally delusional. I've seen some comments go so far as trying to ridicule the new u's single for getting outsold by Bump of Chicken's new single (a really great song by a mainstream rock band IMO) and it's numbers not being where they were when singles were being promoted alongside and then turning around and celebrating the IM@S singles for being slightly above where the original anime's were with all the event tickets and what not packaged in that the original anime's releases never had (and Love Live certainly doesn't have nor apparently needs anymore) and claiming that IM@S has triumphed over u's even though the numbers are literally there for everyone to see. Again at the end of the day it hardly matters, it's all to the benefit of Bamco, but like wow that's some strong dedication to wanting to really wanting to see things a certain way. I mean it just doesn't get anymore clear cut than a single not tied in anyway to an anime with no event ticket or extras having a better first week than a single tied to a popular heavily promoted anime with an event ticket. If that's not convincing enough nothing ever will be really. Love Live got fed to the dogs recently, they had the nerve to pass off that bland amalgamation as a new Love Live installment. The original Love Live has charm, what I seen was bottom of the barrel blandness. I still think Sunrise did all they could with the series and it turned out far better than expected and they should retire it since they won't use the remaining original cast and 3 new replacements which would've been a better idea. If you're talking about that Love Live Sunshine thing (which would be weird since I never even brought it up once) than it's hard to say much as literally all that has been shown is a couple of key visuals and some brief character descriptions, which if I recall pretty much yielded the same reaction when Love Live was first announced as a potential sister series to Idolm@ster. The reaction was pretty much wondering how they expected a series that looked like that to become popular at all let alone stand beside Idolm@ster and now a couple years later it's arguably done so and maybe even surpassed it in popularity. Admittedly I wondered WTF at first because I'm so used to getting mecha series out of Sunrise but I eventually came around to kind of like Love Live and I don't normally like shows like that. In any case nothing I can do or say will sway people either way from prejudging whatever they feel like so if what I see is truly the case then this new project is pretty much DoA and Sunrise are just wasting their times as nothing can help it. It wouldn't be the first time they've come out with something that is just pretty much dead and doomed to being lambasted or ignored before it even airs it's first episode though just because people freak out at the very first key visual (Gundam AGE comes to mind, Gundam Build Fighters managed to overcome it though against all odds). Personally I don't really find it fair let alone reasonable but again there's absolutely nothing anyone can say or do about it when people make up their minds at the character design phase and if that's the case than it just goes to show you what I've been saying lately about how absolutely crucially important it is to make the right kind of impression with the right kind of character design ASAP and why character design is such a crucially important position in today's anime environment arguably surpassing director/writer since they are the first person able to make an impression with a new show and with wanton prejudice just basically perfectly okay and justified in the eyes of fans now that can sink a project outright or give it a huge publicity boost depending on that crucial first key visual. Failing to deliver a satisfactory key visual can potentially outright doom your product nowadays, it's finally come to this. Anyway I wonder if Cinderella Girls faced the same kind of DoA attitude when it was first being unveiled and people were saying it harbored the doom of the franchise the second early character designs broke or if it got the green light from fans right away or at least a chance to actually get off the ground. Again I just completely fail to understand the way this approach nowadays. Like how can people decide so emphatically, with such absolute certainty and so early into the promotional phase of an anime that it's utterly hopeless as if it's just aired it's climactic episode as opposed to unveiled like 2-3 pieces of key art for the first time. I noticed you used the past tense had instead of have as if to indicate that all is already said and done. That goes for anything really, not just this. Well whatever, I can't help but feel I'm just wasting my time here going over this point, it just doesn't make sense to me. Kekkai Sensen having the potential to sell decently even if it is with an event ticket however is. The prospects of this season kind of interest me and are sort of another factor that got me to comment because for the first time in a while there's almost a sense that TV anime that doesn't just revolve around exploiting moe or fujoshi sensibilities have a legitimate chance to garner more than just good TV ratings and maybe a manga boost. Whether it'll actually happen remains to be scene but damn it feels like it's been a while. I'm not suggesting that I want or expect something like Kekkai Sensen to become a blockbuster, but just something that registers somewhere towards the upper middle of the charts would be an incredibly pleasant surprise since shows like that have just been getting absolutely killed on the Blu-Ray front for what feels like ages nows to the point where I legitimately fear that if it keeps up much longer studio producers are just going to be forced to come to the logical conclusion that it almost feels like the vast majority of the industry has that attempting to run any sort of show without placing heavy emphasis on moe and fujoshi tropes is just throwing good money after bad no matter how creative you are with the visuals and storytelling and that that would officially spell the end of shows like Kekkai Sensen or at best make them even scarcer nowadays than they already are. |

If that's not convincing enough nothing ever will be really. You just have to compare the CD sales, anime sales, mobile game sales, etc, to see which franchise is bigger tbh. I see some Idolmaster fans dismissing LL on 2ch, but i'm sure this LL single not associated with the anime and had no bonuses bundled beating a single which was used as one of the EDs of the Cinderella Girls anime and had an event ticket bundled would have shut up those naysayers. The 2nd season anime sales (even excluding the event tickets on Vol.1 and 7) are still minimum 50K average for every single volume, which is saying something. Idolmaster could never achieve such a thing unless they bundle double event tickets on every standalone and the G4U bundle. We can compare the money μ's made in the last 2 years, ¥690,100,000 in 2013 (when the first season just aired), and then ¥2,183,100,000 in 2014 (when the second season aired and the mobile game was over a year old in April 2014). These are just mind boggling numbers, when Houkago Tea Time (K-ON!) could only manage ¥1,588,000,000 in 2010. I know K-ON! made a lot in merchandise sales, but I have yet to see just how much LL has made in merchandise since those figures I gave only included CD and the concert disc sales. If anything I see such 2ch types doubling down more than anything when even a simple statement like, "while this may be more popular overall I still prefer this franchise" ought to be all that suffices. Not so in this day and age of divisive pettiness where such a statement might as well be tantamount to admitting some sort of defeat which is what I think this is all about in the long run really. Saving face is important in Japan after all and I wouldn't be surprised if it applies to being a devoted fan of an idol franchise just as much as it does to office life. I mean we're already talking about fiercely competitive and vitrolic hatred between fans of franchises that are owned by the same company at the end of the day and where no matter which you chose to support you're still giving money and adulation to the same bank account at the end of the day. If that isn't already illogical enough than I say the skies the limit on how far people can take these Idol Wars. |

Also Very happy with DanMachi and Owari Pre estiamtes....it looks like they would have a solid streak too. I am bit surprised by the drop of DXD don't get me wrong those are still good sales but they are lower than the first and second season sales which were both around 9k each..... hope it would rise up further. The only series i am upset with is Ore Monogatari why is it below 2k? it should be higher.....As a matter of fact why are all these recent Madhouse Titles being sold so poorly? when they are just so great? i will never understand :( Also i am happy with the consistent Sales of both Amagi and Cross Ange...those 2 were really good shows, Cross Ange Especially a really misunderstood show :) |

Just means the KanColle PS Vita game, which is a lot more important to the fans than the terrible anime adaptation (fans didn't even want a sequel for it, and would rather have different staff if they insist on continuing with this trainwreck), is going to sell a ton since it is so far above the Cinderella Girls G4U games on the 2015 Amazon Bestselling Games (hint, the G4U game is at #99, while 2/5 of the KanColle PS Vita games are at #57 and #58). It is also selling well at other online retailers too, so it isn't only restricted to Amazon. The only thing the anime was useful for, was to bring in more players to the online browser game and to consider buying the PS Vita game over the anime. I sure hope they are not comparing it to the first anime season... Cinderella Girls probably already has some of the original Idolmaster fanbase, so it is only fair to compare it to the second anime season of LL. Not that Cinderella Girls is going to sell anywhere near 64.5K average (or 52~53K average if you ignore the Vol.1 and Vol.7 event ticket volumes from the calculation). The LL first season only had an event ticket on Vol.7, but the concert was held at a smaller capacity of 17K seats compared to the 30~37K of now. The fanbase was a lot smaller, as the mobile game only started in April 2013 and the anime aired from January to March 2013. The mobile serial codes would have not accounted for much anyway. It is not comparable to the G4U game, since the serial codes are basically for collectors only (it doesn't offer significant benefit in game). Sure, if LL took the same route as what Idolmaster did, and bundle the PS Vita games on a separate BD and also added a 2nd event ticket, then we sure wouldn't be looking at such a lowish 82K+ 1st week for Vol.1 (and 116.9K+ cumulative for Vol.1)... |

No they are comparing it to the first season almost certainly because they need to be able to spin it so that the numbers look better which I don't get cause they're already pretty good. I don't see the point in comparing the very first volume of a show in it's inaugural season and public exposure with no event ticket and just a single BD version with an adaptation of a popular franchise in it's second iteration that has had a decade to build up it's fanbase, that has two event tickets, 2 BD versions, 2 DVD versions and 2 Game tie-in versions and did like maybe 5,000 units better once all of those factors are added in despite having every advantage in the world, but I can realize that's it's just fans looking for any which way to spin it into some sort of historic triumph (at least in their eyes) for their favorite franchise. They take this sales stuff VERY seriously over there after all, especially this time around where there was an extremely bitter and petty feud between the Kancolle and CG fandoms as to which would end up having the higher selling first volume. Yeah though I couldn't believe that they did that either. It's like wow if you have to go to that level to make the claim that CG is a bigger disc seller than Love Live atm than I don't even know what to say. It's not even a matter of having a favorite, it's just plain fact. Plus if people are going to go that route than they might as well just acknowledge Macross Frontier Itsuwa no Utahime as the best selling Late Night TV to anime movie over Madoka Rebellion since it sold like 230,000 units with the Last Frontier game tie in. This is in fact something that the more rational posters over there did in fact point out. Hell at this rate I wouldn't have been surprised if had it done a little lower the the first volume of Love Live Season 1 before it really started to take off (which if you go by Famitsu numbers it did) that people would have just compared it to whatever the lowest selling Love Live volume was and gone "Deremasu>LL Great Victory wwwwwwwwww" cause it clearly means that much to them. If anything it just makes the fanbase look rather insecure and I would have to hope it's just a small handful of people cause otherwise yikes. edit: Anyway a more logical poster did make this post which I've tried to translate: Love Live Phase 2 Volume 1's first week sales ¥ 4,860 × 82,119 units = ¥ 399,098,340 Deremasu Vol 1 DVD ¥ 6,264 × 1,723 units = ¥ 10,792,872 BD ¥ 7,344 × 11,807 units = ¥ 86,710,608 G4U ¥ 9,698 × 24,341 units = ¥ 236,059,018 combined ¥ 333,562,498 Can't argue with that and I noticed nobody tried to really, they just kept going on repeating the same old "29,194 Love Live! 37,871 Idolmaster Cinderella Girls Park live defeat" to which some posters countered with repetitions of "Mass pig can not be recognized the magnitude of the numbers ponds 29,194 Love Live! 28,485 Idol Master 82,119 Love Live! 2nd Season 37,871 Idolmaster Cinderella Girls" I think if there's any logic to be had in it at all that they think that they need to compare the first season of Love Live to the first half of CG, but the thing is CG isn't a genuine 2 season show, it's a split cour because of scheduling conflicts so not the same thing. As some tried to point out the more logical comparison would be Idolmaster 2011 to Love Live Season 1, but even then the comparison isn't really fair cause you're talking about a franchise with a massive pre installed fanbase virtually guaranteed a measure of success and a show that at the time producers wasn't even sure was going to be a success that one it's fanbase in a year while the others had had it's for a decade. I don't know, not worth thinking about this hard probably. Fans say crazy things and make ridiculous comparisons, news at 11. ichii_1 said: OM MY GOD CROSS ANGE SEASON 2 IS POSSIBLE!!! They underwent a corporate restructuring and rebranding where their daytime kids brands are being produced under the label Bandai Namco Pictures, but Sunrise has always been a massive anime studio if not the biggest in Japan. If anything with Nerima Studios closing down they've actually downsized a little bit recently. And then there were 12 basically. Yeah they have 12 sub studios each with their own dedicated producers. @Kaioshin_Sama I remember reading one Idolmaster fan saying that the total 1st week sales of the most recent batch of 5 Cinderella Master CDs in February (which were 700 yen each), beat the 1st week sales of BiBi (which was 1296 yen). The problem is that it is flawed, because it is most likely the average number for the CDs is the actual number of people who bought all the singles. Doing a comparison here with the 1st weeks... 5x700 yen = 3,500 yen @ 13,327.2 average = 46,645,200 yen 3x1296 yen = 3,888 yen @ 45,647.3 average (includes lily white and Printemps too) = 177,476,702 yen Clearly they were not using logic and just like to see a higher number for its total sales. 17K*5 = 85K > 58,280 by BiBi (This is what I saw, since they were also overestimating how much they would actually sell before we knew its actual sale). |

So hold on wait, you're saying that 5 CD's combined managed to the total sales of one CD single? That makes even less logical sense than the thing about the anime? If you have to be adding up all these different thing to achieve some lump sum that is greater than one single entity than that's not really any sort of achievement. Comparisons should only be made straight up. Averages to averages, first volumes to first volumes of equivalent seasons, CD single to CD single (they're called singles for a reason), album to album etc. The only Cinderella Girls CD I'm aware of that comes even close to approaching what you usually see out of a Love Live CD was the one that included the OP and ED and an event ticket for a promotion that happened like 2 days after the CD went on sale and even then it's not making Gold any time like that ticketless BiBi CD you mentioned. I don't know why they don't just admit that Love Live is more popular right now, but that IM@S is still obviously pretty popular too. Like every reasonable head to head comparison you make aside from video games (the Love Live PS Vita game actually did sell less than the recent iDOLM@STER Shiny Festa though I also hear that Love Live game was really bad, had poor graphics for a Vita title and was unacceptably lacking in content so that's hardly surprising) it just comes up short even with what has to be record setting numbers of event tickets (I've never heard of CD's that contain event tickets before but 2 of the Cinderella Girls ones have had them with the one that just recently went on sale being the second) and special packaging like game tie-ins which I've also only seen one anime ever do before in Macross Frontier, also courtest of Bandai Namco. Really I've never seen any anime adaptation period that uses more incentives and extras courtesy its original creator (Bamco is either really dedicated to the product or really desperate to prop it up) to boost it's number than The iDOLM@STER franchise where in the most extreme example the release for the movie was so bloated with extra stuff that the box ended up weighing something like 7 lbs. It's almost unfit for comparison to most anime in general as a result of the package deals it uses. |

Hello EJC and Kaioshin_Sama, Thank you for explanations about these issues involving franchises "Love Live!" and "The IDOLM@STER". It really is very interesting. Particularly speaking, I like also the two, and I'm glad to hear that both follow well in virtually all entertainment sectors, and most likely will have a long life. But it is sad to know that there are fans who are fighting among themselves to see which titles are the best. And as you well show these fans do not even have good arguments to debate (they distort reality). Kaioshin_Sama said: edit: Anyway a more logical poster did make this post which I've tried to translate: Love Live Phase 2 Volume 1's first week sales ¥ 4,860 × 82,119 units = ¥ 399,098,340 Deremasu Vol 1 DVD ¥ 6,264 × 1,723 units = ¥ 10,792,872 BD ¥ 7,344 × 11,807 units = ¥ 86,710,608 G4U ¥ 9,698 × 24,341 units = ¥ 236,059,018 combined ¥ 333,562,498 And those numbers represent only the total volume of a collection (gross profit). Since no one knows the values of the costs involved in the whole process, you can not know which one provided a higher net income. scytheavatar said: Honestly, after the sheer amount of hate Diomedea received from the otakus over the Kancolle anime I am not sure if anyone will be willing to do more Kancolle stuff in the future. And the sales numbers are probably a disappointment considering how big Kancolle is. But a sequel has already been announced, and that was before the start of sales. Probably the decision was made based on the "potential" sales. Ejc said: Just means the KanColle PS Vita game, which is a lot more important to the fans than the terrible anime adaptation (fans didn't even want a sequel for it, and would rather have different staff if they insist on continuing with this trainwreck), .... I do not know the game (only knew the illustrations), so regardless, I liked the anime. From my point of view, this season has only served to show some character to the general public as well as developing some of the girls to present the basics of the plot. Whereas there were only 12 episodes, I think the anime well fulfilled its role. Another thing I've seen a lot of people complaining was in the choice of Fubuki as a protagonist. But if you think about it, many anime feature as the main protagonist a character like "average down", which over time will improve and developing (learning stories and overcoming). Hence, one can have the hope that the second season has a greater focus on the plot, since most of the characters was properly carried out, unless of course that producers introduce more resolve about 20 new kanmusus (then there would not be time to the story develop). I also read many comments from people who said that producers should have chosen as protagonists the strongest kanmusus the game (the older and more experienced), and that the admiral should be something like "the master of strategies." But if so, the series would basically action-strategy (I say this because I saw some people complaining about the moments of slice of life in the series), and the Abyssal most likely would be totally defeated in 12 episodes without much gap to produce a sequel . In this situation the anime would be geared almost exclusively to fans of the game. But the main aim of any producer would not be to present your product to the largest possible number of people, and make more people consume? If there was an increase in sales of games, then the anime fulfilled one of its goals. Moreover, they may from anime creating and selling a wide variety of new products. By the way, they are already doing this. Bibi_Punk said: I never got the impression of any bad blood between iDOLM@STER and Love Live! fans. Seriously. How did this end up taking most of the thread? Some people take things a little too seriously is all. In this case it was more something like a feud between Kantai Collection and Idolmaster fans on 2ch over which series would sell better with the odd comparison to Love Live on the side. Most of the aggression seemed to be coming overwhelmingly from the Idolmaster side of things for some reason though whereas Kantai Collection fans as is well known by now didn't really like the anime much (it's kind of like the Kagerou Project situation where you had a massive fanbase and dud of an anime) so you probably just don't see as many people caring. As for Love Live, again I just don't really see the same kind of aggression coming from them and they largely just don't seem to care and possibly aren't even away of all the pretty much constant taunting and bitterness because they're too absorbed in their hobby. Just really really silly stuff, but I'm not just making it up. It's more a Japan thing than anything else really as I just don't think Western fans are that passionate about either of these franchises either way and in numbers enough to matter or make for the same kind of effect in Western communities. rederoin said: Bibi_Punk said: I never got the impression of any bad blood between iDOLM@STER and Love Live! fans. Every so often you hear news of fans of one or the other trying to start fights at concerts too. Anyway next time at least bloody well look first before just deciding I'm making shit up as a result of "antics". edit: Okay looking at the comments today looks like some of the Love Live fans are starting to punch back with some stuff, but that just goes to show you all the more that it's legit feuding in general. |

And the sales numbers are probably a disappointment considering how big Kancolle is. But a sequel has already been announced, and that was before the start of sales. Probably the decision was made based on the "potential" sales. Potential sales precisely. People were predicting 30~50K average for KanColle well before the anime aired but rightfully cited the teitoku (admiral) as the major weak spot for sales. Depending on how Diomedea portrayed the teitoku (even if we never even saw him), will determine just how high the anime sold, and i'm sure everyone has seen what happened. This is why the game and light novel fans are so displeased with the anime, and do not want a sequel unless the staff changes to a more competent one. EDIT: I did not mention what was so bad about the portrayal of the teitoku, but episode 3 is one of the major turn offs for fans, and its ranking at Amazon never really recovered after that... Episode 2 was obviously geared towards the fans of the franchise, but then it went AWOL from episode 3 onwards. |

Ejc, for you as a fan of the game, as it should be the anime script? Would I like a more constructive opinion, for what I have read in several places are just simple criticism without a proposed solution (that is, people point "mistakes" but show no possible "solutions"). If you can briefly describe some ideas, I thank you. |

"If you like LL then you must hate im@s, vv." Sadly, it's a hit in some part of internet community and apparently a trend here in Indonesia. They might confuse dem franchise with soccer clubs. Don't mind their brains, they don't have any. |
