I honestly only remember Commie and Coalgirls. Coalgirls has no idea how to encode, a single 26-episode series could be over 60GB. Commie is overall pretty good, I dunno. I like them more than Horriblesubs. (Crunchyroll rips)

Lol, no. The main reason why the huge file sizes were due to the heavy grain added post-production from the studio.

OT: If this is regarding mostly about having hardsubs in your vids related to your other thread, then, downloading anime from Deadfish website will be your best option. Regarding video quality, it is good enough for a layman but quality freaks will not touch it, not even with a ten feet pole. One of the reasons being re-encodes.

Most groups that used to release low-res hardsubbed versions have moved away from it, often for random reasons like "the calendar says 2015 so we're not doing SD anymore." Hatsuyuki still does do 720p .mp4s and SD .avis, though. If you really need hardsubs, your best bet may be to get an encoding program like Handbrake and convert .mkvs yourself, if there aren't re-encodes being distributed.

Only if HS is the only group releasing a series; DF usually re-encodes releases from Commie, FFF, Chihiro, Vivid, etc. I do get Deadfish on occasion for text-heavy series where the fansub groups use huge amounts of maxiumum-lag-inducing softsubbed typesetting, since 100% hardcoded subtitles don't cause any lag.

Well, if you like CR subs with extra memes, trolling, and stupid subtitle effects added, then I guess Commie floats your boat...

Recollects fondly the days of Ureshii, Froth-Bite, Shinsen, and A-Kraze. Groups like Central and Live-eviL are still in business I believe, but they focus on older shows modern subbers don't care much about.
