I just cannot finish or watch many "Must-Watch"-shows?

Besides the fact that One Piece is my all-time favorite anime, I simply am not motivated to watch other "big" ones?
Like I saw AoT a good year after it was released and found it...ok or rather meh. I dropped Neon Genesis Evangelion after 3 episodes, FMA Brotherhood after 10, Gurren Lagann after the half, Mirai Nikki after 10, Death Note after 6, I hated Elfen Lied and Black Butler and didn't like Ano Hana that much. I just can't get myself to watch the Monogatari-series, Steins;Gate, Dragonball, Clannad or other "Must-Watch"-anime , I have seen approx. 3 out of 30 series from the Top Anime TV Series list.
I have no clue why? I am a rather active watcher, so I don't get it? I am aware of the fact that there have to be reasons for so many people liking this shows, but most of the time I don't like them that much.
Can anyone relate to this? D:

Well, everyone's got their own tastes, so I don't see the issue. It sounds an awful lot like you're mainly trying to watch series based on word-of-mouth advertising, though, and since that doesn't seem to work for you, I'd suggest you to go ahead and watch shows that sound appealing to you personally rather than ones that get hyped like there's no tomorrow.

I don't like onions most people seem to love onions and put it in everything. I just cannot finish any food with onions.

Its just personal preference you like One Piece I dropped it after a couple eps. Don't worry bout it even if the whole world has watch DBZ you don't have to see it if you don't like it.

There is no such thing as a "must-watch" show.

Take it easy pal, the"must-watch" show is the one you find entertaining, it doesn't have to be popular

I advise everyone to watch Death Note too, but those fags who keep bashing the 2nd half don't know any better. It really isn't as bad as people think.

-Muh 1st half le masterpiece
-Muh 2nd half le shit

Except the second half is forgettable compared to the first half in my opinion, Its been 8 years since I've read the manga and I still remember all of the key plot points from the first half but I forgot that certain characters even existed in the second half. I also didn't like the anime at all, it was way too cheesy even compared to manga which had some cheesy moments, it was completely unwatchable to me.

I too dislike many of the "must-watch" shows. Just because they are labelled that by many, doesn't exactly mean that many will enjoy them.

i totally feel you. it feels more like a chore to watch the very famous ones for me because most of them simply arent my cup of tea. they really aren't as great as a lot of people say they are.

but i've kinda made it my goal to at least try to watch the top 100 most popular anime though so i know what i'm talking about at least. but i'll do that really slowly and when i feel like it :)

It's normal. Sometimes it doesn't appeal to your taste, or the hype made you believe it would've awesome, yet it failed to meet your expectations.

oo didn't know Beck was elitist pandering, awesome maybe I'm well on my way to not having shit taste

anyway, back to being on topic. I haven't watched Steins Gate or Gintama along with some other well known anime and don't really see myself doing so. A while back I went through and watched a bunch of shows rated in the top 100 that I hadn't seen (Natsume Yuujinchou, Toradora, Haikyuu, AoHana, Angel Beats). For the most part it was worth it but if you feel like dropping a show then drop it and move on. I think a lot of the best shows are great because of the build up and ending but if you have to force yourself to make it that far then it probably isn't worth it.

Generally, I try and find "must watches" because I don't want to waste my time watching crap. I have found very few anime that I have found myself to be thoroughly enjoyable.

Anime is good, fucking deal with it.

Actually, I'm the complete opposite :D I personally found so many anime to be great, that are most of the times known by rather few people :3 I think it's kind of fun to discover "underdogs" (The shows I enjoyed most are no underdogs, but I will name it that way anyway) you actually like :3

I have seen almost all you've listed, but for example clannad 1st season is just a harem without siscon, 2nd season was slightly better but still 6/10.
Why elfen lied is considered a must-watch? I hated it as well.

The first time I've watched bakemonogatari I had to drop it, seemed really boring. Then I decided to watch it from neko:kuro and voila, I was hooked.
And eva is.. well, eva.

I've dropped Welcome to the NHK. When I started it, I could really relate to the main character, but then all of a sudden, I couldn't. Whatever I liked just disappeared and even though it's not a bad show, I just can't sit through the last 6 or so eps.

Watch what you want, personally I love brotherhood but if it wasn't interesting to you then that is fine. From the amount of anime you have watched, you seem to have found your niche and you should just stick to it if that is what your are comfortable with.
Edit: The only reason why I got through eva because I was sick of school that day and the 2nd half fucked up my 14 year old head.

Anime is good, fucking deal with it.

People's tastes are different. Look up "good shounen action series" or "good slice of life comedies". Fundamentally it would be better to watch every show when it begins airing and drop accordingly as you may find a hidden gem but most people (including me) aren't willing to do this. Find reviewers or youtubers ect with similar tastes to you then look at what they recommend.

Anime is good, fucking deal with it.

This. Have your own opinions and taste, and be proud of it. Fuck what other people think. For the most part, the "quality" of an anime is largely subjective, based on the viewer's taste.

When you get down to it, a high rating on a show only means that the majority of the people who watched it liked it. It does not mean that everyone will by any means. Therefore it's never anything unusual for anyone to dislike something no matter how praised it may be
