I'm going to rephrase a thread I posted earlier so it spurs discussion (thanks to the deleting mod for answering my question at least)

So I've been on the hunt for Tatsunoko shows for quite some time and was looking for what is available in the states well easily available. Sentai Filmworks has Gatchaman, Discotek Media has a ton of shows. Karas is out of print now but still easy to find. Then other companies still keep other older shows (not nessessarily Tatsunoko shows) in print, like Right Stuf, Discotek, Maiden Japan and one other I can't remember.

SO here's the discussion, What older shows do you enjoy, and which ones are you looking for? (Removed old vs new from the question)

I'll give a cut off date of 2000 since that's around the time Cel Animation was phased out.

Answering my own question, I'm looking for mostly 80s stuff and 70s tatsunoko shows, There's a magic those older shows had that new ones don't. Not that great shows aren't still coming out. But there's a style difference between old and new (that has it's own thread I looked)

As for the vintage titles I enjoy, Lupin of course, Project Ako, What I've seen of Macross, Of course the 1998 space trilogy of Trigun, Bebop and Outlaw star and Ghost in the Shell AH and I almost forget Galaxy Express 999

So you're admitting that post2000 anime is better than Pre 2000 anime?

Not exactly an older show, but Detective Conan.

I find it fascinating how its animation changes over the years, and the fact they go from using flip phones to iPhones within a year in the series' time

EDIT: To further answer the question; I generally prefer newer anime because I find the ones I like without having to search to world's end. I don't care about style of animation too much, however I do care about quality to certain degree.

Dang, that 2006 to 2007 art style change.

Related to that post: Kiseijuu...It's funny how the anime version has tablets and newer technology XD

conan is one of the shows where I like older style more than newer style.

I'm not sure why, but the newer art just feels so off.

Honestly, the only thing that bothers me about the anime adaptation is he freaking has glasses.

If I hadn't seen this picture, I would have never noticed the difference in graphics because I don't watch the old episodes more than once. I think I prefer the new style; but that's probably because I've been watching/reading it for a while and don't want to go back.

Same for one piece. Old animation and art style was way better. Current OP animation is awful.

Old vs New anime: I like both, I watch both. Watched dozens of anime from 20's-60's, they were interesting. Really like 70's and 80's. Not so much 90's. 2000's were great and 2010+ well not watching much from last two years and prefer older stuff. I'm not following airing anime for couple of years now and just pick some when BD's are out.

I think for me it's mainly nostalgia. For most shows that I watched later of, I generally like the new, "refined" art. However, for stuff like Conan and Pokemon, I can't help but feel more attached to the older art.

Speaking of Tatsunoko, I'm thinking of picking up the 1973 "Casshan" series from RightStuf soon. Apparently, Mega Man wouldn't exist without it. I already own the original Gatchaman series.

Yeah I agree. Makes me a bit sad. Sometimes I wonder how would it go if One Piece animation kept up with the times.. Probably something similar to the movies..

How are animation and resolution related?
There's also a bunch of 1080p remasters of old classics out there so the 720p thing doesn't have to be an issue.
I probably regret this post by now.

I call anything from the Showa era, meaning up to 1989, as old anime while Heisei anime, meaning after 1989, is new to me.

A good majority of what I enjoy is late Showa and early Heisei like Zeta Gundam, Street Fighter II, and the likes.

There's definitely a certain charm that exudes from older titles. It's hard to pinpoint what it is though. Is it perhaps the heart and soul poured into it's creation? It was certainly harder work to produce anime back then, and the results weren't nearly as beautiful as what we get today (exceptions of course such as Akira). I dunno man.

Older anime was magical. I think more not than in the past anime is produced knowing it'll probably leave Japan where as back in the day it was never intended to leave Japan it was just a bonus if it did and if if did they over localized it. So everything felt fresh and unique.

I love anime no matter when it was made. But the old shit gives me the warm and fuzzies. Who knows how we'll feel about Stiens gate in 20 years or Baccano, Haruhi, Lucky Star, Attack on Titan, and GULP Naruto.

alot of the time older were loowed to me story driven [ without huge exposition dumping alot of the time]

look compare SAO franchise to the Gingaeiden Franchise there was very few thing HUGE expo dumps in Ginga desipte in deepr and more well denfied story[ itwas based ona full length novel mide you not an LN]

and in SAO how many sceense is there of just pure exposition id say around 20% of the wole soon to 52 episode run is not expo dumping

I like both old and new anime, but I prefer new. I don't really know why though, not because of lower resolutions or anything like that at least. Needless to say, this doesn't count for all new anime. Like SAO and Glasslip...

Though I haven't seen too many old anime so I don't really have a solid ground to base this opinion on.

Like i said, anything from the Heisei period, 1989 and afterwards is relatively new to me.

As for old anime, I do love Akira, Macross Do You Remember Love, Castle of Cagliistro, Totoro, Naussica, Barefoot Gen, GoLion (which later became Voltron and the Japanese version shows that back then anime had way more balls) Mach Go Go Go, and Grave of the Fireflies.

For early Showa, Street Fighter II, Tekkaman Blade,

Not watching anything released before 2010 because everything before that is so damn dated ,its like how can you watch that cell animated crap and not get bored to tears? That's how I roll.
I sometimes watch chinese cartoons/stuff and share unsolicited opinions.
