I searched around, and there were similar topics but... not this one :> What did you think about 2007 anime wise? What were your favourites? what did you dislike? What do you still plan to watch or need to finish? and like.. over all... do you like the direction the industry is taking? Or do you prefer older anime... You can choose to answer whichever part of my question you want :P -------What I think-------- (and no, you don't need to follow this template :P) What I still need to finish that are really good: Gurren Lagann and Terra e... (I know! I need to finish them asap) NEEDS TO BE FINISHED SUBBING: Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei (A.F.K.) favourite completed series: 1. Baccano! -I love the violence! If you're looking for a violent anime with an intricate plot.. this is it :D 2. Darker Than Black -First off, I love the characters. Hei is my favourite guy, and Yin is my favourite girl. The plot was really cool, funny and engaging. I think this needs a second season! :> 3. 5 cm per second -sad, and _beautiful_ animation. I almost cried at the animation alone :P though, I did not cry for it (even though it was great). Went from Great to bad: Claymore Went from Bad to Great: School Days Dissapointments Claymore, Lucky Star, Kodomo no Jikan, Zombie-Loan, Rental Magica, Bamboo Blade, Dragonaught, Mokke, Prism Ark, Myself; yourself, Hayate no gotoku, Sola.... Pleasant surprises -Ef, Shion no Ou, Kaiji, Manabi Straight...... Worst completed series: (they weren't actually that bad) 1. Candy Boy -don't ask.. it's shoujo-ai and 10 minutes long :P 2. Kodomo no Jikan OVA -kinda too much for me at the time, though it had some funny parts. It really did not "finish" so as a stand alone thing... it failed 3. School Days -in some ways, it was really stupid. The drama was addicting and the end satisfying but.... not really quality.. Favourite -not completed- anime: 1. Ef-A Tale of Memories <--- will be finished so soon :D -An amazing masterpiece. Truly deserves a 10/10. Every second is artistically important. Drawn into this series and I can't wait to watch the final episode. 2. Clannad -Animation is fantastic kyoani. Hilarious, and I love all the characters (fuko is my least favourite). 3. Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei <---should be finished but..... :( -Hilarious, and artistic. I just really enjoy it. 4. Hellsing Ultimate -Way better than the anime series as it follows the manga. each episdode=1 volume from the manga. I love Hellsing, it's great :D 5. Moyashimon -My love! My high expectations were met and then exceeded. Hilarious, and looks amazing HD :D -also check out Kaiji, shion no ou, kimikiss and minami-ke :D Worst -not completed- anime (though not dropped): 1. Bamboo Blade -I hate Miya and Dan-kun. I don't think it's funny either.. and they fail at real kendo. (yes, I do kendo). 2. Dragonaught -too many boobs and stupidity. the CG in the dragons also fails imo 3. Umisho - has it's low points and high points but.. I find myself not really wanting to finish it... D: it's meh 4. Kodomo no Jikan -censorship is fail. I plan to read the manga and watch the DVD release 5. Mokke -Boring...... kinda stupid... well not that bad just, I don't care about the series. the rest of the shows I watched fall somewhere in between. Favourite season: Fall Worst: winter hmm yeah.. xD sorry if it was tl;dr :P |

Or do you prefer older anime... Now that's a loaded question. I prefer older, mid-90s, but I think that just reflects what I saw when I was introduced to the industry and became hooked on it. The quality of today's shows isn't intrinsically worse or anything of that sort, though -- objectively, it's probably better as a whole -- although with triple the number of shows on the air as there were just 10 years ago, it's somewhat easier to find a series to like. I'm sure somebody a few years down the road will look on this time as some sort of "Golden Age", as it were. |

my first year watching currently airing anime Hey, my option is present xD 5 Centimeters per Second made my top 5, but overall I'd say that it was fairly hit and miss. Most of the series were either really good or just average/fair. Edit: Though after finished ef ~ a tale of memories there is now 3 2007 anime that made my Top 10, which is pretty admirable (though it is true most of the anime on my list is from 06/07 anyways so I suppose it doesn't say much...) I was pleasently surprised by ef ~ a tale of memories, though. And there's still some anime that I'm itching to watch... Seems like there's just too many released each year xD |

-------What I think-------- What I still need to finish that are really good: Seirei no Moribito (I have a few more that could be used finishing but they aren't that great :P ) NEEDS TO BE FINISHED SUBBING: Shigurui ( stallked at ep 2 because of how slow the subs were moving) favourite completed series: 1. Code Geass (It didn't start in 07 but finished in it) 2. Gurren Lagann 3. Claymore (Although the ending was pretty lame) Went from Great to bad: Claymore (reason above) Went from Bad to Great: School Days Dissapointments Hayate no Gotoku, El Cazador de la Bruja, Gakuen Utopia Manabi Straight!, Goshuushou-sama Ninomiya-kun, Rental Magica, Le Chevalier D'Eon, and the list goes on but I'll stop there. Pleasant surprises Gurren Lagann, Lucky Star, and Dragonaut. Worst completed series: 1. Zombie Loan 2. Lucky Star 3. School Days I didn't really dislike any of these series besides Zombie Loan, I don't generally complete series that I'm not enjoying. Favourite -not completed- anime: 1. Gundam 00 2. Dragonaut 3. Seirei no Moribito 4. Shana Season 2 Worst -not completed- anime (though not dropped): 1. Night Wizard (not even sure why I'm watching this one still) 2. Ghost Hound (can't get in to it and is going to be dropped soon) 3. Hero Tales (still hoping this will get better) Favourite season: Spring Worst: Winter Still some series I need to watch from the year as well, like Baccano. But I still need to finish off some other shows before that. 2005, 2006, and 2007 are the only years, mostly 2006/2007, that I have really been watching series aside from Naruto(2004 is when I started it) and I'd have to say that 2006 is probably still the best year, but 2007 was a good year and produced alot of enjoyable shows. |

Ok, let's see... What I liked: Manabi Straight Overall, I thought this was a pretty nice series, and I even had it 9'd at one point, but now I'm not so sure it even deserves the 8 I gave it. It had its good moments, and the ending was good, but this series dragged on like no other even though it was only 12 episodes, and felt extremely pointless to me despite the fact that it was a slice-of-life. Regardless, it was still a good series. Gurren Lagann This one is really difficult to say anything about for some reason. All I'm going to say is that I liked it - a lot. Hayate the Combat Butler Seemed to start off slow, but this series actually ended up being extremely entertaining and is probably one of my favorite comedies this year. El Cazador This series was so cheesy it was awesome. Rosenberg and LA were undeniably awesome. Claymore Started out awesome but by the end it was a joke. My feelings on this one are very similar to those concerning Death Note. Was very good for a whie, but by the end I was left extremely disappointed. Darker than Black This series would have been better if it wasn't so quickly/oddly paced and was 50~ episodes long. The ending they gave it pretty much ruined the chance of a good second season though. Still one of the better series this year. Music, art, characters all awesome. Lucky Star Lucky Star, Lucky Star... this is a tough one. Honestly, I did enjoy this series quite a bit for the most part, but there were quite a few things about it that pissed me off. That, and its fanbase is just as bad as Naruto's to me. It's hard not to be biased with this one when you have people running around going "omgomgluckystarsokawaiiluvkonatacuzshe'sjustlikemeXDDDD." Kaze no Stigma This series would have been mediocre/borderline bad if it wasn't for the main character and the last arc (which was really unexpected for me since I enjoyed it a lot more than the rest of the series). I wish main characters like Kazuma weren't so rare. I'm tired of male main characters that could pass as women and are probably closet homosexuals. Devil May Cry I WILL NOT LIE - I loved this series. People took this show way too seriously. To me, it's not really a show that should be taken seriously and I actually found it relaxing to watch. The OST was awesome, the art was good enough and I liked the characters. The show was pretty much 100% ridiculous action, but it was fun. It was fun to watch the main character crush his opponents in a few seconds for once. Series like this one are actually a lot rarer than people make them out to be, and they're not bad once in a while. Higurashi Season II I thought season 2 was awesome. I liked it better than the first season. The ending was quite satisfying. Zetsubou Sensei Started to lose momentum about halfway through. Still a pretty damn funny series. Zero no Tsukaima Season II Quite a disappointment, was way too dramatic. Still fairly entertaining. Kaiji Awesome characters, awesome plot, awesome music, awesome everything. Another favorite. Clannad Funny as hell. It's a shame this series isn't pure comedy, because it's not very good at doing drama. ef: a tale of memories Awesome art, imagery and music, but like I've said before, the show probably doesn't deserve those things. The characters/plot are mediocre at best and some of the characters are extremely annoying to me. Still, I'm enjoying it quite a bit and even though the characters and plot are probably undeserving, with the help of the art, imagery and music, it actually turned out pretty good. Looks like it will end decently too. Kimikiss I want to say it's the best romance this year, but this series looks like it has the potential to take a turn for the worse. I still have hopes for it though. Rental Magica I probably like this series more than I should. There is nothing original about it, but I still enjoy it quite a bit. Lots of awesome VAs and the concept may not be entirely original, but it's pretty interesting nonetheless. Minami-ke Funniest show this year. Genshiken II Was a disappointment for me, but still better than a lot of crap this year. The original cast was what made this show awesome, and it seemed like this season focused on the new characters more than anything. I don't like any of them. Ghost Hound Awesome, awesome series. I love the concept and the plot, characters, everything. It does everything so well. Definitely one of my favorites this year so far. 5cm Per Second Last but not least, 5cm Per Second. Easily one of the best movies I've seen. The art is insane. I think that's all of them. What I didn't like: Seto no Hanayome Yup, I'm definitely going to get shit for this one. I actually sort of enjoyed it for a while, but some of the characters and the things they did in the series were just insanely annoying to me. Dropped. Nagasumi isn't GAR. Sola During the first five minutes of this show I was thinking it could be pretty damn awesome, but it was like this show's only goal was to prove me wrong. Dropped. Terra e Not a bad series, just wasn't my thing. Dropped. Dennou Coil Again, not a bad series, just didn't interest me. Dropped. School Days Lol, this series was hilariously bad. If I could describe this series with one word, it would be "trainwreck." Bokurano This series had like 15 main characters, and they were all brats. And then there was the whole GONZO making it thing. Dropped. Sketchbook Boring. I dropped it. Myself; Yourself Worst romance this year. Dropped. Mokke Boring. Dropped. Dragonaut More GONZO shit. It's sad because it actually had potential at the beginning. Dropped. Shakugan no Shana II This season makes me wish I never watched anything Shana-related. Dropped. Moyashimon I didn't like it. Dropped. Gundam 00 I couldn't even enjoy a Gundam series with Mamoru doing the main character's VA. Dropped. Shion no Ou I guess it's not that I disliked it, it's just I had other stuff I wanted to watch more so I dropped it. It didn't seem too bad but main character not being able to talk? lolwut Overall, this year had a lot of boring cliche shit, but it also had a lot of great series. I think it was a pretty good year. |

I didn't watch a lot of new anime this year . . . but I gave Moyashimon a chance, and instantly fell in love :3 "I ate sugar --- and alcohol came out!" Those microbes are so adorable! Let's brew together! I still need to watch the new Gundam series. Hopefully, it's better than SEED (never could get into that). I hear people cut Gundams in half with swords - freaking awesome! |

I don't think I watched enough shows this year to do this but: Series that hooked me: Baccano! : Seriously, this was just instant love. All of it's characters (aside from that Russo fellow's girlfriend) were great. And Isaac and Myria are just pure fun. Clannad : It's first half has shown a great combination of comedy and drama, without one overlapping the other or feeling odd. Loving it so far. Hayate no Gotoku! : Oh come on, just look at my avatar. I've loved this series from day one. The fact they've recovered from their little slump in comedy quality just cemented my love for this series. Claymore : Regardless of the amount of hate the ending got (I gotta admit it felt a tad rushed and more than a little forced) most of it was quite well done, and the fights were great action without ever boring you. Lucky Star : A hit or miss series, it certainly managed to hit me. It's even funnier when there's more people with you. So yeah, I certainly didn't hate it, even though I can see why many people do. I'll add ef- a tale of memories in here too, even though I've only watched a few episodes. It certainly gave me that "this is gonna be good" feeling. "I hate you but I love you too" series: Shakugan no Shana Second : The series have been getting better, but the annoying love-fights were getting on my nerves for a while. It's a good thing I managed to get through those, and it hasn't been a completely bad experience. Just an overall average one. Rental Magica : What can I say. It's average in everything. The characters and plot are there, but they need to improve their presentation. I still watch it, mainly because of Mikan-chan (yes, Loli's are my weakness). Bleach : The Downward spiral has continued undaunted, but several episodes have managed to keep my interest, hoping for some increase in quality. It's still pretty good for a mainstream 100+ episode series if I dare say so. Zero no Tsukaima - Futatsuki no Kishi : Good beggining, horrible development, awesome finale. The finale itself is what made me not hate it after all. Now, better hope Season 3 goes back to it's roots. Less out of place fanservice, more plot please ! "No, Just...NO !" : Hellsing OVA : Nazis? For real? No....I mean, for real? Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann : Well...not that it is bad. But I think the presentation and the fact it's a mech anime just didn't help win me over. I'll keep watching it, maybe it gets better. But for now, it stays right here. The "Sounds good on Paper" series: Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai and Kodomo no Jikan (even though I realize it has been edited) are two series I couldn't see yet I'm looking forward to seeing. |

What I still need to finish that are really good: Terra e..., Denno Coil, Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni Kai. My on hold list is like a pit that's difficult to get out of. I don't know when I'll get around to picking these shows back up again. NEEDS TO BE FINISHED SUBBING: Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei. I can wait on this one. Favourite completed series: 01. Great conclusion to an excellent series. 04. Nodame Cantabile. Noda Megumi is a riot. 05. Mononoke. Interesting art direction along with just as interesting stories. Went from Great to bad: Hayate the Combat Butler. Went from watch every week , to watch every other week, to on and off every few months before I finally just dropped it. Went from Bad to Great: Idolmaster Xenoglossia. It ended pretty mediocre but it did start badly and got good in the middle. Disappointments: Lucky Star Pleasant Surprises: Hitohira, Minami-ke Worst Completed Series: Kyoshiro To Towa No Sora and ICE Favourite Not Completed Anime: Minami-ke. Only one episode left! Worst Not Completed Anime: Lucky Star. I got tired of watching episodes and not laughing at anything. Favorite Season: Spring. A ton of good stuff premiered in the sping. Worst Season: N/A. I found 2007 to be a very solid year. It had five shows to which I rated a 10 which two of them broke into my top 5 and two more are on its way. Being the type of anime watcher I am, it was also fill with many average shows, plenty of surprises and few disappointments. Top 10 of 2007 (I will be counting shows that started in 06 but ended this year.) 1. Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann - Not since The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi has a show made me so excited for the next episode. Counting down the days, knowing exactly when and where to be to get the release. A show I would truly call epic. Currently holding the #4 spot in my overall favorites. 2. Lucky Star - A show that had very high expectations from me. The first episode threw me off cause it wasn't that good, but eventually I fell in love. KyoAni really went all out with this show with it's parodies and fun. Currently #5 in overall favorites. 3. Clannad - Even though its only half way done, I can not put it lower than this. Sure, I am biased towards the KyoAni/Key combo, but i really like it when it happens. Clannad has been so far, the best work of the combination. Animation, story, music, characters, etc... have all been awesome. 4. Kanon 2006 - Yes, this started in 2006, but a good amount was aired this year. It is a KyoAni/Key combo so i should not need to say more. 5. Aria the OVA ~Arietta~ - This OVA really lived up the high expectations I had for it. This 1 episode OVA really showed why I love the Aria series. A very heartwarming story. Very fitting to have it before the new season. Currently #8 in my overall favorites. 6. ef - a tale of memories - As I am writing this, I have seen all but the last episode. As long as it doesn't really suck, it will get a 10 from me. Shaft really outdid themselves with the animation. And combined with Tenmon's excellent music direction, it really shined through with being one of my faves of 2007. 7. Nodame Cantabile - I love the manga, so I was happy seeing an anime adaptation. It certainly did not disappoint. Its a comedy with classical music. I love comedy. I love classical music. An auto win for me. The above are all ones I gave a 10. The following are ones that I gave a 9 which was much tougher to decide. 8. Seirei no Moribito - For those who know me, I am a very moe eccentric type of watcher. You know when a show is really good when it lacks that kind of element and still be highly regarded. SnM is just that. Its story was fabulously told and the characters were developed so well. 9. Terra e... - Since it was highly regarded by kayrhandros, I started this show much earlier than planned. Probably the first anime 20x20 (more than 20 episodes with each episode more than 20 min) that I have marathoned straight through. An epic space anime with some of the best character development I have ever seen. This is one of those shows that more people need to watch. 10. Dennou Coil - Probably the toughest pick of all. It was either this or Seto no Hanayome grabbing the 10 spot. What pulled through was the very interestinf setting along with a great balance between comedy and drama. A show full of plot twists. A great surprise of 2007. There are many other shows I would love to rant on but that would take to long, so here are the rest of the best in no particular order. Seto no Hanayome Baccano! Ichigo Mashimaro OVA Code Geass Darker than Black Jigoku Shoujo Futakomori Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei Sketchbook Full Color's Minami-ke Hayate the Combat Butler Kimi Kiss ~ Pure Rouge Ghost Hunt Surprises Dennou Coil Manabi Striaght Kenko Zenrakei Suieibu Umisho Hidamari Sketch ef - a tale of memories Hitohira Seirei no Moribito Terra e... Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann Bokurano and a few others ;P Disappointments Claymore - Overall great series, but man that last arc. Devil May Cry - I lowered my expectations of this show and even then did it not meet it. The only thing cool was Dante and the MAL review telling us that he was cool Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai - First let me say that I really enjoyed the series. I gave it an 8, but I had really high expectations of it. A great sequal to a great show but I wanted S2 to surpass S1 5cm per Second - Again, I loved the movie (gave it an 8) but...if i say anymore, it'll just be spoilers. Zero no Tsukaima ~Futatsuki no Kishi~ - This sequal really blew. I read a bit of the novels (rather, long summeries of them, so that could be the problem) and loved it. I was so excited for this show only to be very disappointed. Naruto Shippuuden - I really enjoy the manga, but man did the anime ruin it with its really stretched out episodes. Les Miserables - Nothing wrong with the anime. I have only seen one episode. What I'm disappointed is the lack of subs for it. Top Ten Characters 1. Nia Teppelin 2. Izumi Konata 3. Enma Ai 4. Katsura Hinagiku 5. Yoshinoya 6. Yin 7. Miura Haru 8. Fujino Shion 9. Odori Momoha 10. Kurata Sayuri Favorite Season: Spring Worst Season: Summer Anime I want to mention that really does not apply elsewhere School Days - I loved it. I hated it. Makoto is the man. Makoto is a douche. Best ending ever. Oh, and nice boat. Boku no Piko - Yeah...I'm an idiot. Summary of me on irc... <Faust721> I should watch it to see whats the fuss is all about. I can say that I have covered all the genres. Most stupid thing I have ever said. There was another one too but I forgot what it was. I remembered Hatsu Inu The Animation - I'm not really big on hentai, but this was awesome. Gave it an 8 Ok, thats it from me for now. If i feel like it, i post some more thought. |

I don't have my anime directory here with me, so I'm probably forgetting to mention a lot.. but I still wanted to post something :p Great: Minami-ke (Didn't know the Manga at all when this came out - really great fun) Moyashimon (Elite idea and humor .. well executed) Lucky Star (Doesn't need commenting :p) Manabi Straight (Lolis + School Comedy + Horie Yui + Hirano Aya = Instant Win) Hayate no Gotoku (Yea, this had a gap of funny at some point.. but recovered quite well. I like this show a lot .. maybe also because Eclipse_SS are doing such a good work on it) Nodame Cantabile (Discovered this gem kinda late in the year .. but so well done. I also like classical music tho. Beside that, Noda is <3) Good: Ichigo Mashimaro OVA (Continuation of the Ishigo Mashimaro win) Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei (Not 'great' because, somehow, uhm, the jokes were hilariously funny at first - but by now, they're somehow getting old) Clannad (Funneh, superior animation, drama is ok too imo .. altho way too funny in order to be a real drama, heh) Kimikiss (Only real cool romance these days) Claymore (The ED totally addicted me to it, 2/3 of the show were also quite addicting) ef (Art. Period. But art isn't aaaalways overly entertaining ;)) KoJikan (The OVA was elite, the TV series is .. well .. censored :p DVDs are out now so I guess that counts to 2007. I wouldn't have rated it so high without knowing the manga and having to guess all the censorthings) Zero no Tsukaima s2 (Why don't you people like this? :p) Lovely Complex (Great funneh) Neither, but still need mentioning: Nagasarete Airantou (One of the few decent Horie Yui series this year) Umisho (Totally no story, really. But somehow it was STILL very funny. I also liked how characters were drawn - cute!) Hidamari Sketch (Cute and funny. But slow at times. All the characters are so lovable tho!) Les Miserables (I've only watched RAWs up to episode 14 or 15 or so. It's a great show .. but lack of subs [and also lack of RAWs!] is bleh) School Days (The ending was so elite.. ah and .. boat thing!) Hatsu Inu The Animation (Just as Faust said - I'm not really into Hentai either .. but this show was.. cute.. yes, cute. A cute Hentai!) Nanoha StrikerS (I don't get why this is disliked either. Of course it couldn't have been as well as A's, because A's was just so damn good! The new characters weren't toooo bad. Tea was kinda cool actually) Shion no Ou (I'm still not sure how I can actually like an Anime that's 100% about Shogi/Chess.. but somehow I do) Moetan (Tee hee) Shugo Chara (Fave magical girl character transformation this year!) Mokke (Cool art, no fancy stuff .. the story isn't too bad either really) Meh (Dropped these after a few eps): Blue Drop Bokurano Myself; Yourself (That Aoi girl was pissing me off with her voice) Potemayo (Was this funny? :p No it wasn't!) Nanatsuiro Drops Not watched (either planning to or not considered): Bamboo Blade (Learned about it late) Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai (Need to watch first installment first) Darker than Black (Not my genre) Dennou Coil (Learned about it late, but sounds ok actually) Genshiken II (Only recently finished Genshiken I) Shana II (Only recently finished Shana I) Ghost Hound (Not my genre) Tengen Toppa (Dunno, watched 2 episodes and kinda forgot about it then) Terra e (Bleh) ... Best Openings: Lucky Star, ZnT s2, Hayate OP2, Ninomiya-kun, Mokke Best Endings: Claymore, Clannad, Ninomiya-kun, KoJikan Best FanSub: Hayate no Gotoku by Eclipse_SS Lamest FanSub: Minami-ke by Ayako Worst Season: Winter - because I somehow missed Nodame at first .. so it "only" really had Manabi and Hidamari Sketch at the time Best Season: Spring Best Seiyuu performance: Hirano Aya and Horie Yui in Manabi Straight Least good Seiyuu performance: Dragonaut, elite lineup but .. meh Most moe character: Miyuki of Lucky Star Least moe character: That housekeeper woman in the beginning on Blue Drop >_< |

A decent year, I can't say I watched a lto of series, so my opinion don't matter but what the hey. Completed Really Liked: 5cm per Second - Best Shinkai movie in my opinion. Each story would probably stand on it's own in my favourite movies/OVAs Lucky Star - Random crap is funny to me, and I'm a Kyoto Animation fanboy explains why this is here sola - I liked it a lot for the most part, though it got a bit tedious in the middle Claymore - As crappy as the ending may be, it was near perfect for over half the series Liked: Darker Than BLACK - Had it's moments, but was weighed down by some annoying arcs Nagasarete Airantou - I found it hilarious most of the time, but didn't have the sheen of some comedy series Disappointed: Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS - Magical Girl series don't really do it for me. Nanatsuiro Drops - See above comment Myself; Yourself - After School Days, this was a bad taste in my mouth Oh Gawd No: School Days - Had to force my way through watching this. The ending tried really hard to make up for it but fell short Kyoshiro to Towa no Sora - Yuri huh? Not enough to make this series half decent. Still Watching Really Liking Clannad - Kyoto animation goodness Minami-ke - Absolutely hilarious, most of the time Kimikiss ~pure rouge~ - I need a romance anime, and this fulfils all my requirements Liking Hayate no Gotoku! - Really good at the start up, but right now it's kinda floundering. Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei - Like Hayate no Gotoku! Shion no Ou - I dunno, reminds me of Death Note without the Death Note. Not completely sure why though Genshiken 2 - I quite like it, not particularly eventful but still entertaining Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai - Not as good as the first season Disappointing ef - a tale of memories - Really gret animation but mediocre story and characters Naruto Shippuuden - Beh, loooooonnnnnnnggggg fights suck. Sky Girls - Loli pilots. Good idea, disappointing series. Forcing my Way Through I dropped all the ones that would be here Dropped: Da Capo II Dragonaut Jyuushin Enbu Ghost Hound Blue Dragon Not Watched, But Will Soon: Shakugan no Shana II Shugo Chara! Gundam 00 Favourite season: Summer, I think Worst: Not Sure |

It was a good year, and Myself;Yourself is definently the best anime for 2007. I heard that Clannad is also a good anime, and i like the company who made it, but i didn't watch it yet. I still expect from 2008 to be better. |

I find 2007 to be a good year for anime. Of course, it isn't without its mediocre stuff, but what year is? Anyways... Lindork's Top 5 Anime of 2007 1. Seirei no Moribito: I'm pretty sure I've ranted on its brilliance on other threads, but I do truly feel that it is the best series 2007 had to offer. Never have I seen such brilliantly choreographed battles (albeit there were few) and such breathtakingly gorgeous backgrounds. Character designs were devoid of lolis and Balsa is the most kick*ss anime heroine EVER. 2. Nodame Cantabile: My praise (okay, rants, whatever) cannot glorify this anime enough. Everything was executed perfectly. Animation, music (duh), character, and most of all, pace. I find the pacing in Nodacanta perfect. Watching it was a pleasure, and the ending did not disappoint. This was the most satisfying anime I've come across in a long time. 3. 5 Centimeters per Second: How could one not mention this series? Animation, coming from Shinkai Makoto, gives one little to complain about. Adding to its appeal to the eyes, this anime also appeals to the ear and the heart. Okay, I'm being rather cheesy here but what the heck. This anime roxers my soxers. 4. Dennou Coil: Most compelling anime of 2007, period. (<- that's a period, duh) I hated the character designs at first but it grew on me. This show is the reason why I have been missing sleep and neglecting homework. 5. Minami-ke: Okay, this may not be the most groundbreaking series, or the most heart wrenching, or the most exciting, but it did provide the most laughs for me this year. There's just something about it that's so special. As cliche as it is, this anime delivers. Every character is win. To be fair, I have not seen absolutely everything of 2007, and am sure that my top list would be changed dramatically otherwise. To be noted, I made an effort to avoid harem, ecchi, and loli-heavy stuff, but looked how that turned out... ...On to Honorable Mentions TTGL: I am barely 5/27 on this and do not mind waiting on KAA's releases. From what I've seen, looks like an epic to me. In the mean time, I will withhold judgment until I complete this series. Lovely Complex: Funny, entertaining, not a drag to watch Clannad: As expected from KyoAni, animation is flawless, and other techie details are without faults. Will also withhold judgment until series is completed. Ghost Hound: From the makers of Lain and GitS? Bring it on!! Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei: Not without its faults; the later episoes are not quite up to par with its first ones. However, it' one of my favorites for a reason. Moyashimon: Definitely the most unique show of 2007. Microbes are cuter than lolis - duh. Death Note: good anime despite its spawn of rabid fanboys Hayate the Combat Butler: hilarious, but is dragging (stop!!!) Disappointments Lucky Star: could have been better, though I suppose I was expecting too much from KyoAni. Nevertheless, hyped to death but does not deliver. Claymore: Why? Why couldn't this better?!!!? Has potential, oh so much potential, but that Raki kid needs to go Dropped - not necessarily bad, they just don't suit my tastes Mokke - thought it was cute, but I can't handle too much cute at once. Rental Magica - I HATE mahou shoujo/shounen shows. Did not understand why I decided to watch this. Anime that still needs to be watched Terra E, Baccano, Darker than Black, Edo Rocket Anime I haven't watched, and have no intentions to School Days, Myself Yourself, Magical Girl Nanoha, etc... Edit: I decided to add in some more favorites ^ - ^ Favorites Female Characters: Balsa (SnM), Noda (Nodame Cantabile), Sunako (YnSH), Kana (Mi-Ke) Male Characters: Itoshiki (SZB), Hosaka (Mi-Ke) Inanimate Objects/??? Objects: Yamada (Mi-Ke), THE MICROBES (Moyashimon), Itoshiki's suicide kit - Enya's Best is included afterall (SZB), Hiroshi-kun (YnSH), the Dango Daikazoku(Clannad) Soundtracks: Clannad, Seirei no Moribito, 5cm/Second, Nodame Cantabile Animation: 5cm/second, Seirei no Moribito, Karas, Clannad, Ghost Hound Lolis: Fuuko-chan (Clannad), Mako-chan, Touma, Chiaki (Mi-Ke) |

NEEDS TO BE FINISHED SUBBING: Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei favourite completed series: 1. Nodame Cantabile 2. Lovely Complex 3. Death Note 4. Darker than Black 5. Lucky Star Went from Great to bad: Claymore--the first 20 some episodes were awesome but the last arc just ruined the show. Went from Bad to Great: Lucky Star Dissapointments Ghost Hound, School Days, Doujin Work (the show tried to be funny but wasn't) Pleasant surprises Shion no Ou, Sky Girls, ef- a tale of memories, Bamboo Blade, Ghost Hunt, sola Worst completed series: 1. School Days--Makoto just pissed me off the entire series 2. Zero no Tsukaima ~Futatsuki no Kishi~-- 12 episodes of Saito being hit and called a dog was pretty lame. Not much else...I usually don't watch stuff to the end if I don't like it. Favourite -not completed- anime: 1. Clannad 2. Shion no Ou 3. Sketchbook ~full color'S~ 4. Mokke--I know a lot of people say its boring but I love the slice-of-life supernatural feel of the show. 5. D.Grayman--the 20 some episode fillers have ended and the show is back to awesomeness. Shugo Chara and kimikiss are interesting as well. Worst -not completed- anime (though not dropped): 1. Hayate the Combat Butler-- it's not that bad but sometimes it feels like a chore to keep up with it weekly. 2. Rental Magica--not bad either but could be better Can't think of anything else...I usually drop shows that don't interest me so... Favourite season: Spring--lots of good shows aired this season. Worst: winter--besides Nodame and Hidamari Sketch, winter was pretty bare. |

I voted not great but had a few fantastic series. There were some series I dearly loved, too many disappointing sequels than I want to think about and a lot of pretty "meh" series. That and it came right after 2006, the most amazing year for anime in recent memory, which is a pretty tough act to beat. I'm leaving off shows that aired in 2006 but finished in 2007 because I find that a lot less confusing for me. Favorite - complete: 1. Nodame Cantabile - I literally adored every second of this series. The music was so amazing. 2. Dennou Coil - it started off with a bang, got a little boring in the middle, went into filler/recap mode which actually turned out to be more entertaining than where it was going right before the filler, and then ended with SHEER AWESOME for the whole last half of the series. It was the most imaginative series of the year. 3. Baccano! - it's a fun awesome series and though the way the story was told annoyed me at first I really appreciated the craft that went into making a show like this. Everything did come together in the end and I was not disappointed. One of the few series that capture the same energy Cowboy Bebop had without shamelessly aping it. 4. Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann - I did not fall in love with this series at first. Some parts greatly annoyed me. However some parts were so awesome I can forgive the annoying bits. If nothing the animation was stand out amazing. 5. Serei no Moribito - solid series without awesome cast, story, animation and setting. Had the pacing been better and the presentation of certain story elements been smoother I would've rated this much higher. An amazing yet flawed series. 6. Lucky Star - this show is my guilty pleasure. I really enjoyed the conversations and found the writing to be often times surprisingly clever and witty 7. Oh! Edo Rocket - I didn't get into this series until much later but it really managed to charm my socks off. Sometimes I'm just in the mood for some good old fashioned shounen adventure done right. Favorite - incomplete 1. Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei - I've rewatched the first few episodes as much as five times by now due to a number of circumstances and it says something about this show when I come away loving it more every single time. 2. Ghost Hound - for some reason this series speaks to me at a visceral level. I want to love it but I'm starting despair that the story doesn't seem to be going anywhere. 3. Lovely Complex - while not as great as the likes of NANA or Honey and Clover it's always refreshing to see an original romance especially when the genre has become increasingly overtaken by dating sim adaptions. Great to Bad: Romeo X Juliet - if Shakespeare weren't a character in this series he'd be rolling in his grave Bad to Great: Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann - I didn't care much for the series at first. If it wasn't for the entire internet screaming at me to finish this series I probably never would've but I'm thankful I did. Pleasant Surprise: Oh! Edo Rocket, Disappointments: You're Under Arrest Full Throttle - everything about this show is so bland except for the animation Genshiken 2 - I think the director missed the memo about how the show is supposed to be parodying dating sims/harem shows because it feels like it IS a dating sim/harem show Worst: Rental Magica - If Ghost Hunt was an example of how to do a supernatural detective show right, Rental Magica was the perfect example of how to do one wrong. Needs to finish fansubbing: Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei Saiunkoku Monogatari 2 Need to watch/finish watching that are good: Mononoke Terra e Darker than Black Clannad Nanoha StrikerS Higurashi Kai Bamboo Blade 5 cm per second Hayate the Combat Butler Sketchbook Gundam 00 - waiting for Code Geass Season 2 because I don't want to get stuck with a potential cliffhanger again Favorite season: Spring Worst season: none |

Excellent Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann - EPIC anime is EPIC. I never really into Gainax stuff until I saw FLCL not long ago and I was hooked with their style. Went on to watch TTGL which also not really quite popular yet at the time since it is just finished, bam! Turned out to be one of my top 3 anime of all time now. Lucky Star - Overrated anime is overrated but this is one of the few anime that I can truly enjoy whenever I want to. Very enjoying and relaxing. Godly lead character like Konata (Aya's voice pwn!) and sidekicks like Kagami makes me laugh/smile alot. Minami-ke - Lol anime is lol. I never laugh so much since Seto no Hanayome. And what's great is that this series is not full of comedy action like Seto/SR or Fumoffu but with the typical Slice-of-life style. I never laugh so hard in any SOL genre type of anime before. Great character (almost every character, major or minor is made of Pure Win) Boss is bossy. Banchou is godlike. Hime is grand. Hosaka is lol. Trap/Reversed Trap is lol x 3. Kaiji - INTENSE. Great story, excellent progress, one of my favourite Fall 2007 anime. Art might be weird but trust me, it is a must watch anime of the year. Still in the middle episodes though. Seto no Hanayome - Laugh off your A** . Excellent cast, great comedy, refreshing (lol mermaid) Code Geass - Pizza Good 5 cm per second Not really a fans of short movie but this is an exception. Great story telling and touching as well. Love it Hayate no Gotoku! - Great anime to watch once a week that is full of nonsense and random plot. One of my favourite anime for wasting time =D Clannad - Good old key-kyoani stuff. Still haven't reach the middle episodes, as of now, liking it but not too much. Goshuushou-sama Ninomiya-Kun - Funny, alot of fan service, enjoy watching it. Average Myself; Yourself Worst anime School Days - Too lazy to describe. The only nice thing is the BOAT. High Expectation , on going Shakugan no Shana II Gundam 00 Bad impression , on hold for now Dragonaut Night Wizard Rental Magica Definitely watching soon Terra e Dennou Coil Bacanno! Claymore Darker than Black Higurashi ef a Tales of Memories Ghost Hound |

Just in case anyone's curious, Yahoo Japan mentions an online poll to see what the best series of 2007 was. Here are the top 100, which if you look at other online polls conducted pretty often probably aren't too surprising: http://www.vsist.com/ranking/57 The "points" listed there are actual votes from people (not sure if it's a 1:1 correlation, though.) Apparently sola is 10 times better than TTGL and 100 times better than Claymore. Who knew. Also, on a personal note, it's all about #48, baby. ![]() |

On more close watching, I think I can pass Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann from the "ugh" list to the watchable list. It's very annoying at some points (Kamina, SHUT UP!) but it actually has some very pretty animation and the battles are mildly interesting. And I like Simon, whenever he isn't being a coward that is. |

This just proves that Japan loves moe/slice of life/ crap. Sola was pretty bad, it had easily one of the worst endings in a while, I think I liked it for about 5 minutes, before reflecting on it and realizing just how horrible it was. |
