So I'm considering what to do here. I have watched fate Zero and thought it was solid. But I was wondering what to do now since their is a visual novel, a previous FSN, and now a FSN 2014. :

What are your thoughts? Thanks.

EDIT: I know I have time to play the VN (well unless the game is ridiculously long) before the anime starts since the anime won't start until the Fall 14' season.

Play the VN and ignore the Deen. Fate was kind of weak but the other routes more than make up for it.

DEEN's adaptations are mediocre at best and crap at worst. Other than that, the VN is 30-60, maybe 70 hours long, depending on how fast you read. If you are interested in the VN, just go for it.

Play the VN(or if you're able to, play the original VN then the Realta Nua port and play all 3 routes - Fate, Unlimited Blade Works, Heaven's Feel then try to get all the Ends bad or good.)

After the VN, ignore the mediocre adaptation decay atrocity that is Fate/Stay Night DEEN 2006....

It's your choice if you want to watch the UBW movie or not.

Wait for F/SN x Ufotable 2014 due October. (If you're able to, play Fate/Extra or watch Carnival Phantasm to pass time lol)

Play the VN, watch FSN 2014 only. I don't think the new anime will ever be a replacement for the VN since it will presumably only animate one route's worth of content (and it seems possible that it might be an original route at that). But I'm sure it will be an amazing experience that shouldn't be missed out on. You also need to watch Fate/Zero.

Again. We have no information what the FSN remake covers, nor how long it is in terms of ep count. STop.

No dude. Ignore the plebs above. They are trying to troll you.

What you want to do is

Watch Carnival Phantasm first to get into Fate
Then you want to watch the UBW movie then the DEEN anime
You can skip Fate/Zero if you want because that anime was fucking garbage
There's no point in reading the VN because the DEEN anime covers everything and gives sufficient information
Afterwards you watch Carnival Phantasm again.

The 2014 anime is gonna be shit too because it's made by Ufotrash
As a child, I was told that society is a melting pot of talents; knowledge and experience combined to form important alloys that will contribute to mankind. When I got to highschool, however, I thought that it's more like a river in which the water represents our peers while we ourselves are the stones in the river. Constant erosion by mindless majority sheeping has made us lose our unique edge. After I hit the age of 18, I realized that I've been wrong all along. Society is no melting pot. Society is no river. Society is a person, a very skilled rapist, and he has fucked us all.

Well, the best option is always to watch everything.

Still, one of problems with reading source material (VN, books, manga, etc...) is that after you do it, it sometimes makes you expect from adaptation (in this case anime) a lot more than you should, or you end up being dissapointed that some parts aren't adapted well, or some aren't included in adaptation at all.

I remember fans of Umineko no Naku Koro ni complaining how anime was shitty compared to source material, but to me, it was okay anime, but, I must say I only read beginning of VN.

One other problem is that having knowledge of source material kinda spoils you story big time, so you'll pretty much know what will happen, and there will be no those pleasant surprises when you experience something for the first time.

IMO, better watch anime first, and then go and read VN for those parts not included in adaptation.

You are right that I probably shouldn't have said it that way, but my point is that no matter what the anime turns out to be, it's very unlikely that it will be a proper substitute for the VN. I'm not sure if even something crazy like 6 cours would be enough to do all 3 routes justice.

I watched Fate/Zero when it was airing.. it was okay (gave both series a 7).

I think I'm going to play Fate/Stay Night, play the sequel (Hollow/Atarxia?) , and then after all that is done I'll watch the anime (I'll more than likely be done with the VN's by the time it FSN 2014 starts airing).

I'm not even going to bother with all the spin-off material (video games, light novels, manga, spinoff anime), just way too much content and don't feel like slogging through all of that (had a simular sort of situation when I was trying to figure out what Muv-Luv content to get into, eventually decided to just play through the original trillogy and ignore all spin off stuff).

After I'm done with Atarxia I'm planing on playing G-senjou no Maou..

Sequel might not be the right word. hollow ataraxia is a sort-of fandisc. The main story is rather short.

About the patch: While a few weeks ago a patch was "leaked", I'd say 20-40% of the text were still garbage and not really translated. Yes, an 88% patch was released yesterday by the new team, but even the validated parts are getting revalidated because the new team has to check whether the old team messed up something. I don't think it will take that much longer. Perhaps when the new FSN anime airs.

At worst it will take up till PS-Vita Ataraxia re-release. THat should rile up interest in translating it far more.

Things would be easier if someone could actually crack open the Vita, so they can extract the voices. Otherwise, they must record every line manually and that's a ton of work. Should take a while.

The problem with translating Vita games is because of its damned Kernel... Had it been a PSP though...

Well, even FSN RN Vita is only translated partially (Fate and a partially-translated UBW. HF is 0% progress atm.) so yeah...

Something about Sony placing coding restrictions on Vita games via the Vita card...

Maybe they didn't want the issue of the ease of people to hack into a PSP's system, to remain in the Vita?

There are rumors that too much tinkering with the Vita to enable "homebrew" may cause an RSOD(red screen of death) similar to the PS3.

I don't know what you're getting at. The dragon from the anime (2006) obviously came after the h-scenes from the VN (2003/2004) and it was Nasu who told DEEN to replace the h-scene with the CG Dragon. What most people are making fun of is the poor execution.

Fate route isn't bad per se; it only pales (lots) in comparison to the other routes. But I still find it interesting, even more if it's played again after completing the whole game.

And it's get better gradually the further you read.

Well actually it doesnt do anything about how Shirou thinks about themHe is just dead set on following the.

Something about Gil making Saber his wife by force or something. Or just to make the climax look cooler.
