I have work in three hours and I haven't had a second of sleep. I've tried all this time but I've given up. This also happened three weeks ago but at the time I didn't think much of it. Lately, I've been finding it tough to fall asleep and I've always had this problem where I wake up like 6 times a night. I heard it can stem from depression and a lot of stuff has gone on at work. Most of my friends have been fired and a lot of shitty work gets given to me now. I love my life but when it's time to walk back into that office I just think I can't do it any more. Anyway, I'm going to see if I can get time off to see a doctor. How did you deal with it? I remember when my in graphics teacher told me he used to read the bible to pass the time. I'm a gamer so I have no trouble passing time but when I want to sleep, I want to sleep!

Do you get enough sun? Getting outside and getting that Vitamin D helps establish a healthy Circadian Rhythm, which regulates your internal clock. It's also important to make sure that you're eating, maintaining a fairly regular sleep schedule, getting exercise, and making sure you don't spend too much time in front of a screen before bed. I hope some of that helps~

Yeah it can be a symptom of depression.

Things that work for me:

Avoid electronics (TV, e-reader, computer, anything with a screen) before bed.
Read for an hour before bedtime, preferably with only a reading light on.
Take melatonin 20 minutes before bed.
Take painkillers before bed. (I don't actually recommend this as a habitual thing, but it will work.)
Listen to calming music while in bed with lights off. Usually this will put me out unless I'm abnormally distressed.

I've had Insomnia for about 3 years now.

I go through many periods where I don't sleep for up to 4 days or to the point of passing out. When I get to about 3 days I start to throw all the time.

Yeah it's the worst.

I don't think I've been through insomnia. Well probably not as bad as yours. I sometimes wake up, then go back to sleep, then wake up, and the same routine goes on. If I can't go to sleep, then I either pray or read my holy book. It works for me.

No.
If I had it I would die.

Because as of right now I sleep very little hours and it causes my heart to skip beats.

I've never been able to fall asleep naturally. I always have to be at the brink of consciousness to feel any comfort in sleep.

Well I have been playing ESO lately but I always game and it's never been this bad. I never have breakfast and I stopped running in October.

Mine comes and goes. Last night I got about 2 and a half hours of sleep, the other 10 hours were me laying there waiting for the pills to kick in. Insomnia isn't just having difficulty falling asleep, it's also difficulty staying asleep. The 2 hours was interrupted numerous times by little thumps by my bastard cat.
There are times when I'll fall asleep like nothing, then my insomnia will come back and deprive me of sleep for months. It's sort of a pattern, 8 months on 1 month off. Not an exact number, just an estimate.

I started having bad insomnia seemingly randomly, awhile after I started playing WoW. Your body can eventually get out of whack, even without you realizing it. You can talk to your doctor about sleeping pills, but they don't always promote healthy sleep.

I hope ya can figure it out, as insomnia really sucks.

Insomnia my whole life. Nothing helps much, over the counter sleeping pills help for a day or two and then stop working.

I don't know, I like to just swallow a couple of pills and being done with it, and not having to get up and pee the tea later on when I'm trying to sleep.

Millions of people have problems getting to sleep every other week or so. If it's because you are worrying over something, you should take the time to think about how to fix it or why you should stop worrying about it.

You should only consider something like sleeping pills when it's become a real problem. When you regularly get less than 6-7 hours of sleep a night.... for a week or longer. But if it does come to that don't be too afraid of some of the over the counter stuff. They're not addictive, at least not physiologically.

I had a bout of insomnia that lasted for months. And I'm not talking about having trouble getting to sleep, I'm talking about having trouble getting to sleep and then having trouble staying asleep. Things like 2 hours down to 30 minutes of sleep a night. I could only get 5 hours of sleep after I had been completely exhausted after a few days of barely any sleep. That was when I became desperate enough to try some medicine for sleeping, which is when I learned about all this stuff.

There are many reasons for insomnia. Worrying too much is actually a very common reason. Unfortunately insomnia usually develops at that point when there isn't much we can do about that worry.

I have always had insomnia. No matter how tired I am, I cannot fall asleep unless I lay in bed for more than 1 hour. Also, if I wake up in the middle of the night, I'm not going to fall asleep again.

Nothing I do solves this problem... except when I have jet lag. So I love getting jet lagged, unlike most people.

Thanks, person who gave me this on another site a long time ago, lol.

Used to be on sleeping pills but dropped them at the fear of becoming addicted to them. Didn't help in the slightest, still have WAY too many sleepless nights.

I can't say for sure since I haven't actually been diagnosed, but I do have a hard time getting to sleep. I have too much I want to do. I've stopped watching TV before bed, I turn everything off, I don't have access to my laptop or phone from my bed anymore, so it's easier to fall asleep without any distractions. But I still rely on sleeping pills more than half the time.

Pretty much this. Although I have been taking meds as long as I can remember there are times that I just can't sleep for 2 or 3 days and end up getting to the hospital.

I've always had problems with falling asleep. That's why I'm jealous of people who are able to even within a couple of seconds/minutes. I've also experienced not getting a wink of sleep for a few nights in a row. If I was able to fall asleep, it would only be for an hour or so.

Medication and warm tea/milk helped me. Also, I noticed that it's easier to fall asleep if I kept my daily internet time at a minimum. (but it's just too hard!)
