Making this on a whim, but I'm just curious - when you guys are trolling online, how far do you guys take it? Like would trolling include telling people to go die? That's messed up.

The only reason I'm asking is because I was told to go die yesterday, because I make YouTube videos and I'm over 20, but act like I'm 17 (as written on my profile): (https://pbs.twimg.com/media/BiRYCKDCIAAzcpc.jpg)

I'm a little affected only because I know the person is from MAL, who I encountered in one of the general forum chats. I really only go on here because I found everyone to be so welcoming and friendly. But really, is that still considered trolling? And why would anyone even tell someone else to kill themselves?

Mod Note: This is not a thread for attempt at trolling. Any troll or spam comment will be deleted without notice.

Welcome to the internet :P You'll encounter more soon. They exist, just accept that they are part of the community ^^

Endycia is right. As long as you can distinguish trolling from criticism, it'll be all right.

I agree with this.
You have to have good tolerance to make Youtube videos. But if remarks such as that from someone you've never even seen before affect you, then there could be an issue here.
Disregard the comment. I doubt there's a youtuber out there that does not get hate.

And also, Protip:
The more well-known you become, the more likely you'l get more hate. So taking in the compliments and beneficial criticism is a good idea.

In seriousness though, likely trolling. Though might not be, if you become a commentor or a "Youtube persona" don't expect it all to be positive, you'll likely get more comments than that thrown at you. Like you'll likely get some stalkers and such. Typical fanfare.

But realistically, what about people who first start their channels? Would you say the same thing to them? Don't make one if you can't take the comments?

Those people could be like 13, and have never experienced a troll before.

Yes I would say the same to them. I'm not the sort of person that gives a piece of advise to one person, and then another to someone else. The net can be a very shitty place, and also once you put something online it stays in one form or another.

Or as a quote I know says. "People will always shout your failures."

I wouldn't be surprised if we have a member here that backs up every thread on a harddrive, and is "judging" us all. Knew a guy that would do this.

Yes I would.

Sure sometimes it's hard to read some comments made.. But if you trully want to prosper in youtube or any other type of media which gives you notoriety then you should get ready for the shitstorm from the trollers/haters.

Also as many youtubers have said ( the most famous ones ) when they first started, sure there were trollers and haters but they focused all their energy towards the fans.

Want to be a youtuber? Get thick skin and learn to deal with the trollz/haterz. Nothing is as easy as it seems.

He trolled you and managed to troll you well.

There are many kind of trolls, some of them are aggressive and make victims in order to make other people laugh (like the one who trolled you), some are kinda passive-aggressive, they insult groups but don't target anyone specific to make others laugh (like JD) while some others are peaceful and don't make any victims (like Okazaki)

I actually had a quite awful experience online once, and it was at the hands of individuals who 'hate trolls' (I was merely stating my opinion on a Facebook page, but then got labelled as a 'troll').

If it's on the Internet and stays on the Internet, I think it's fine. But if they manage to get ahold of your personal information and take it off the 'net, then there's definitely a problem.

Youtube comments is below shit probably due to the traffic and the lack of moderation. I don't blame the lack of moderation when they need to spend a huge chunk of time examining every video uploaded as well. You can expect for there to be some sour apples wishing death and other anti-social behaviours. Ignore and move on.

Telling someone to go die would be flaming, but to be fair, trolling usually devolves into both sides flaming, because there aren't many skilled trolls out there.
I don't troll, although I have been accused of trolling due to not being able to communicate what I'm trying to say effectively.

Trolling is basically playing devil's advocate. People sometimes do it for kicks, or for a challenge.

If someone just went and told you to go die, they are not a troll, they are just an immature brat who was flaming you. A hater. They're quite common, and they usually do what they do because they are taking their real life frustrations out on people on the internet. So they can take it pretty far sometimes. The best thing to do when you come across someone who is flaming everyone is to just ignore them. They will eventually calm down, and act like a normal person soon enough, if they are a normal person. Everyone flames on occasion. Some people do nothing but flame, though. They have anger issues in real life, and you should probably just add them to your ignore list.

i have to agree that this is part and partial of internet behavior and those of us who spend a lot of time online should become desensitized

knowing all that, i do basically feel bad for you, or anyone who gets such asshat comments. i'm pretty sensitive so i try and avoid inflammatory threads in communities. thats how i protect myself.

such behavior isn't necessarily advisable - you are cutting yourself off to a certain extent - but i get hurt very easily and "RandomAsshole69" would probably bother me too
