Well I like this series enough to include it in my favorite list. You know the first season have a charm that pull me straight into reading LN. The LN is fantastic mix between action, ecchi and good characterization plus warped by a good plot. So how many of you start reading LN after watching first season? On a side note I read LN since the first season still airing back in the 2012.
Kickstarter for Rokujouma is fully funded. Good work everyone. Lets wait for the result of our hard work together.

I read some of it while season 1 was airing at the time and then read more and more throughout last year and caught up this year.

Hmm, I guess I read some of the side stories but not all of it yet.

DxD is one of my favourite series aswel, and yeah. I also started to read the LN after watching the 1st season. Started reading almost a year ago.

I'm currently studying IT, read all the novels while I took an internship. I didn't had much to do during the last few weeks, so I read all the novels in 1 go :P.
After reading the 3rd novel, I was immediately hooked. I've read all the novels in 2 or 3 weeks?

I saw the first season this year, and then on a month i readed all of the previous 14 volumes. Gotta say, it was one of the best months of this year, the LN have really built a very strong cast of characters and scenarios. I dont mind the echhi (at first with was wierd) but you just need to acept he his a pervet and laugh at the crazy pervert stuff he does, the rest, great plot, characters, enemies and lots of good action, if people can bypass the ecchi I dont see how not to love this series.

I actually read the the light novel first. I started reading just after season 1 ended. After reading the first 2 volumes, I watched the anime.

I did.

In the week before DxD New's first episode aired, I read volumes three to 14. Volume 10 is my absolute favourite so far, and I really hope it actually does get animated eventually.

I readed the LN about 2 weeks after I finished the anime, waiting till volume 15 is finished and translated (even though most of it are side stories).

I, too, started reading the novel after the first season ended. The latter's ending was simply too vague and left me guessing way too much. So I started reading the third book and managed to get through all of them in about a month.

I don't read the LN since I don't actually take the plot that seriously (or even watch the show for that).

I'm praying to god this show gets enough seasons to animate volume 10. That novel was amazing and the best in the series. I'm kinda worried about this season though because volumes 3-5 are the weakest in the series, not including the short story novels.

if anything vol 1-2 was the weakest point of the story in comparison with the newer novels

And I'm guessing which is why some people dropped DxD.

On topic: Like others have already mentioned, I started reading the LNs after watching season one.
One of the few ecchi/harem novel(s) that has a interesting plot with character development.

I started reading back end of 2011 was up to about volume 4 when the frist anime season aired.

One of the few harem/fan service novels that has a really good plot that keeps you kooked, only other series that has equaled it in the last few years is Madan no Ou to Vanadis.

You're right, now that I think about it, I very much enjoyed volumes 4 and 5. I hated volume 3 though, I don't like Kiba and I thought the novel was boring compared to the others.

Agreed, I'm not very interested in the anime's plot at the moment. Hopefully the second half will be better.

I love DxD's characters, its story is good, its humor is absolutely fantastic. But despite all that...

(I am copy/pasting this from what I said in the "Episode 3 Discussion" thread because its actually relevant. I hope thats ok.)

The problem is, I hate reading light novels (I love animation and BGM, and if I can't have animation then I at least want manga. I get by when I just think of manga as a "blueprint" or "script" for anime, that way I don't think that I am losing out on the animation, but rather getting a sneak peek of what is to come. Obviously I'm just fooling myself, but if it works, it works.)

(end copy-pasted section)

I suppose the best way to describe what I mean is by an example. Lets say in part of the story Issei is knocked to the ground and Asia runs over and tries to help him while smiling and giving a little speech on how she believes in him and he needs to get up (completely making this up). I can read that, completely understand what is going on, and fully understand the meaning behind her actions, but it doesn't make me FEEL for the characters like actually seeing them and hearing them does. If I actually see the expressions on her face, and hear the emotion in her voice (even if I don't understand a word of Japanese), that is what makes me go "Fanboy-omgThatsSoCuteAndHeartfelt-kawaii~kawaii" (obviously exaggerating, in reality its more of just an "awwwwwww...." but you get the point).

Around 30 seconds after I finished the first season, I began reading the light novels. The 30 second delay was due to my browser loading and also getting to the light novel translation. Yes, that is how dedicated I am haha.

Just completed reading the LN volume 14 a month ago, it was the character art style that compelled me to see season 1.
I couldn't wait for season 2 after reading some spoilers, The light novel is just one of kind though it had everything! I mean it goes from serious to funny and super awesome in an instant! And it seriously gets better with each volume!!
I gave season 2 a 10 immediately, just so I could see an ecchi show on top list's for once!

That is just up to the level of imagination one person have. That maybe means you haven't read many books in you life(don't worry neither did I).

Yup it's perfectly understandable. Though then you have people like me who are like Novel>Manga>Anime. I enjoy the depth and perspective of books.

Anyway I also read the novels right after watching the first season and I'm a DxD addict. Though I have yet to read volume 14 since it was just recently translated... how was it?

Thanks! Yeah a breather is fine 12 was crazy!

However 15 seems to be some kind of filler novel just by looking at the chapter names. Anyone heard anything about it?

Funny unlike most ppl I actually started with the manga before the anime was even out. The manga was pretty good and I couldn't wait for the next chapter and Japanzai was taken too long and then I found out it was based on a LN that was translated so I downloaded it to my e-reader and read volume 1-9 in one go (10 wasn't fully translated at that time) And I was hooked because of the good story & ecchi combination.

I have to say that I still find the anime a bit disappointing because they altered the story at certain parts and the animation quality could be better (season 2 though looks better then one) But overall this story only gets better as it progresses.

Yep, I also read after season 1 and it was the first LN I've ever read. Loved it so much I probably read it like 5 times, lol. I always seem to tear up during the half-end of Vol.3 and beginning-half of Vol.12 while being awestruck during Ch.6 and Ch. 10.

This is like the Saints Row of anime world

everything can happen, zombie, aliens, and shit just popping out of nowhere, but still it's a load of fun!! For me DxD is one of the better LN out there, actually it's even better than SAO and definitely better than other ecchi harem LN such as Campione and Seireitsukai

All of you need to read this shit

As our wise elders have oft spake "There is beauty in simplicity." Yes DxD is an over-the-top wish fulfillment series that has loads and loads of fanservice w/ lot's of shounen cliches thrown into the mix. But THAT'S WHAT'S SO GOOD ABOUT IT! It doesn't try to disguise what it is but still manages to be unique and enjoyable in it's over-all presentation and that's why people love it. Also the hallmark of a good series isn't how original it is but how it manages to capture it's target audience and keeps em glued. DxD does that superbly. I have seen countless series try to be unique and original only to fall flat due to it's own complexity and unfamiliarity. At least DxD is honest w/ itself and it's fans.

I powered through the LN in about 3-4 days a month before season 2 debuted. It was mostly good, i'm glad to see there is a lot character (and harem) development. I really hope the author takes it all the way to Issei's final devil promotion, and the formation of his own peerage. I want to see how that turns out, and which of the current cast of characters winds up in it.
