How you ever had that moment when a character suddenly takes their hair out of a ponytail, or any hairstyle at that and you say "She looks a lot better like that"
Not just hair, maybe a character takes off their glasses for the first time.
If you did, any character in particular?

I didn't wanna post this at first because
i thought everyone would think i'm weird,
but the worse that can happen is
being Ignored or insulted q_q

I think it's more a matter of seeing a person in a different way for a change. And if they would keep that look and later put their glasses back on you'd be like "oh wow this is actually so much better". Ritsu with her hair down looks even more like a boy, so I like that.

Yes, I agree. When Haruhi cut her hair short she didn't look as hot

Nico Yazawa, I want to french kiss her with her hair down, but I would if she stuck with twintails as she is still cute and lovable with them.

I usually prefer the hair up since I like twintails/ponytails so much. But I like Ritsu with her hair down.

On a semi-related note, Gilgamesh looks cooler with his hair down. I always wondered what he used in his hair to keep it up since he is from a historically early Mesopotamia.

On topic, I believe in early Japanese culture it was slightly scandalous for a women to have her hair down. It was mainly attributed to lower class harlots and children. After exposure to Western culture I think they had some cultural renaissance with women putting their hair down. So it was kind of taboo to have your hair down up until that point. However, I believe if you were male, it was seen as a profound indicator of beauty and aristocracy. Strange how the roles were reversed in Western culture specifically.

On a lighter note, I think Misty from Pokemon looks leagues better (no pun intended) with her hair down.

I have a feeling the reason for this was because it was seen as formal and formal was the norm for beauty at the time, where as the western world had exactly the same structure for a long time then they threw away formality for sex appeal the start of cigarettes were introduced sooner and this soon became the norm for said beauty.

The reason I see hair down as a good thing is it represents freedom in a metaphorical sense. :)

Hair down is usually the best, because it gives them more of a natural look.
Plus it makes you want to brush their hair aside.

When you get used to a character's appearance.

You tend to find almost any change makes them look better as it's a fresh take on the character. Quick example: Haruhi

Surprisingly enough there are quite a few girls in anime that look cuter with their hair down, and vice versa there are some that look better with their hair tied up. Can't say much for male characters though since most of their hairstyles look the same.
