for me the only thing is how I feel after I watched it/while watching. because it can have a great plot, but if you can't feel the characters then I guess for me it's not a great anime |

The plot is the most important to me when rating anime. Then I rate characters, animation and music. The last thing is enjoyment, in other words what feeling anime left to me. |

By purely enjoyment and entertainment value, this goes for any show not just anime. A show could have the best plot, animation or what ever but if I don't enjoy it I won't rate it high it's simple as that. |

Subjectively, because being objective is just lying to yourself =/ |

Plot and art I guess but mostly if I enjoyed it I'll like it. The genre I guess it depends on the genre. Like I hate sci-fi so if I watched something with sci-fi it'll get a low grade |

I try to rate things in all areas since I believe all areas are in one way or another important to the storytelling factor or just overall enjoyment of a series. Sound is always something that should be considered and I do consider in my scores as well as Music, Visuals are always important and I do consider that aspect of a show as I rate them, Plot/Writing is very important as a narrative that cuts corners is detrimental to the overall enjoyment of a series, the characters and how well they were characterized and their overall development over the course of the series is one of the most important aspects to me as I rate a show as well. |

Hello my fellow anime lovers. I was just going over my anime list and found certain patterns in the animes and how I rated them. After a closer look I realized by OCD had subconsciously put them in different sections based on how I rated them. All but HxH that rebellious little cutey. All the animes I thought were "bad" were listed as 5's. All the animes I thought were ok but I grew easily bored with were 6's. All the animes I thought were generally good or at the least interesting were listed as 7's. All the animes I thought were great were 8's. All the animes I thought were amazing and addicting were 9's. And then HxH was 10. So I was curious. How do others rate their anime lists and why like that? I think the reason I made it like that the way I did was because I believe even the 5's had redeemable qualities and I'm waiting for something truly terrible that makes me question why this person was even given a contract to make an anime before rating lower then a 5. |

Quite a lot of factors, but mostly Enjoyment. However, the following contribute to enjoyment. OST. Good OST may curve a series a point or two depending on how good it is. Good characters may also do that. Animation. If an animation is seriously lackluster though, the series won't be anything higher than an 8. If I wanted a good story, I'd just read the manga then. There's no point if I have to ball my eyes out to endure shitty animation. Color coordination/graphics. There's a lot of anime in which the primary color schemes used are just really lackluster and does not sync with the anime. Pacing. If an anime squeezes a lot of material into 1 cour, I will not rate it high. Same if it's drags on. Seiyuus. Bad voice acting, unfitting voice acting, or just seiyuus you may dislike, especially if they have a lot of lines, can also ruin enjoyment. This is a rare case though. I can usually tolerate most seiyuus I dislike. Story/characters. If an anime has a unique storyline and characters (positively unique), I may bump it up a point or two. Especially for ones I can relate to. Cliches. Too many of these, and you'll see the score drop quite rapidly... |

Ahh sorry, I am still editing x: Basically how much I enjoyed it without the specific details. A 1 means I cringed at pretty much every minute, whereas a 10 is where I could never get enough of the anime, and could probably rewatch countless times. |

10= Amazing masterpiece, addicting, little to no noteworthy flaws 9= Same as above, may have had one slight drop in enjoyment or quality at one point but a masterpiece otherwise (steins gate, slow, slow beginning dropped it from a 10-9) 8. Very good show that may have a few parts that i didnt agree with/plotholes/filler that would drop it from a 10-8, but overall the good parts overshadow the bad. OR i simply really liked the show but didnt LOVE to a 9 or 10s standards 7. Good enough to keep me interested but overall was lacking something, but still worth a watch 6. Okay, not really a bad show but had alot of stale or boring parts, or puts emhasis into things that arent needed, basically only worth a watch if your bored/have nothing better to do. (Fairy tail fits this perfectly, bland main character, too much fan service overshadowing the actual plot of the show, no real purpose to the plot) 5. Just as the score says, average. Nothing extremely bad about it but nothing too good either. was simply boring to me or just a meh feeling after i watch it 4. Bad show that alot of parts had me annoyed, bored or unimpressed. Shows that go here maybe mean i understand why other ppl like it but i dont. Had some okay parts but overall not worth a watch 3. Has maybe a few good noteworthy qualities that keeps it from being a 1 or 2(good art, maybe a good character or two) but overall just shitty watch 2. Same as above basically but shittier 1. why the fuck would anyone like this shit |

Of course, this is for very few anime, and I agree enjoyment should be the standard for most ratings. |

Because if I rated all my shows based on enjoyment then nothing on my list will stand out. It'd all be 9s or 10s, also rating my shows objectively reflects how much knowledge I have atm to judge it "objectively". I may get better at rating shows later, right now what's more important to me are characters, execution and plot. |

6-average 7-good plot, kept me interested for whatever reason-but wasn't that engaged with series for whatever reason 8-very good plot, generally engaging characters and for the most part i enjoyed the series. Normally my 8's have a a few holes here and there/took a while to get into the series (or maybe a poor ending/second half), but enjoyed it and would re-watch 9-generally a very good show, pretty much most aspects of the story done well and kept me engaged throughout for whatever reason. Basically as close as you can get to a masterpiece (in my eyes), without it actually being a masterpiece-normally these in my eyes have well done music 10-masterpiece, no holes/small complaints in my eyes and could re-watch over and over again (currently, none of the animes i have watched i have rated as 10). :) |

I use 8s so much that I had to create 4 tier system which consist of something very good to something below average. I still really value my below averages though thus the 8. I feel that I should make 7 my score for an average anime. I honestly don't want to use anything below a 6. So my ideal goal would be some like NoSpoilersPlease's system but having average at 7. |

I rate subjectively. It usually just reflects on how I felt about the show as a whole after completing it, a perfect 10 meaning I was utterly entranced by the story and couldn't stop thinking about it for days on end. Trying to categorize everything using math is more effort than I'm willing to give. |

I rate based on enjoyment mainly. 10- favorite series regardless of flaws 9- liked it a lot but not enough to refer to it as one of my favorites 8- better than average enjoyed it for the most part but didn't like some parts 7- was alright, average, nothing noteworthy 6- usually a spite rating for shows that did something that annoyed me but didn't annoy me enough to dislike the series entirely 5- below average, was hard to sit through 4 and under- oh my god why complete waste of time I don't stick to these to a T though. Most of the time I just rate what I feel it deserves following those guidelines though there are the occasion exceptions |

I rate anime according to 5 categories and give them scores out of ten. Plot Characters Animation and Atmosphere* Impact Entertainment I then take the average of all 5 categories. Below 1.4 = 1 1.5 to 2.4 = 2 2.5 to 3.4 = 3 3.5 to 4.4 = 4 4.5 to 5.4 = 5 5.5 to 6.4 = 6 6.5 to 7.4 = 7 7.5 to 8.4 = 8 8.5 to 9.1 = 9 9.2 and above =10 I don't simply round off for scores 9 and 10 because I've never had an anime score above 9.4. I've felt that it would be a waste to give anime that fall in the range of 9.2 and 9.4 a 9, so I gave them 10. Plus imo there's no anime that will truly be perfect. Oh only 5 anime that I watched and rated so far have hit the score of 9.2 though. Some exceptions are usually made with the rating system for special case anime. For example if a certain section of an anime is drastically different from another, I would rate separately, then average the scores for each section. All of school days except last episode: 5 Last episode: 10 Overall score: 7.5 = 8 Probably what I'll do for Akame ga Kill Dunno if it sounds too complicated, but it takes less than 5 seconds to quickly calculate and put a score. Probably faster than looking for the anime up on mal to mark it as complete. *Atmosphere - the music and voice acting and some visual effects that sets the mood of the anime |
