Does anyone know if I buy a DS in Japan does it have English language option?

Considering I can change my DS's language to Japanese I would think so. ^^
DS are region free, so I don't think you'll have a problem switching the language to English.

PSP with CFW makes your PSP regionfree. =)
Btw, I might buy the new DSi with the dual-cameras and music player.

Gah, that's why it's nice having both of them..

No need for PSP vs DSi battles. XD

I have both, but the winner has to be the PSP, since there hasn't been a good game for the DS is a while.

That's funny because I could say the same thing about the PSP. At least the DS has Dragon Quest IV out right now to play. I really disliked Crisis Core for the most part and it sucks I played that after Patapon and God of War: CoO because now I'm back to hating the PSP again.

Ya the game variety for the psp is lacking but its the same for the DS in ways it just depends on what you enjoy playing. Really for me there arnt too many good psp games out there, but the ones I do play are worth me buying the psp

Dragon Quest IV is also playable on a PSP, you just need a CFW and a place to download the PSX iso's...

If you love games then you have to side with the DS.

I disagree. Just because the PSP covers more than gaming doesn't mean the purpose of it isn't gaming. I love playing Vice City stories on the PSP, and playing on the PSP gives me more feel of 'gaming' than the DS. Frankly, i never felt as if i was playing a game on the DS, it's more like... having a very big tamagotchi... It didn't felt extensive enough as it should.

If anything you guys need to check out more niche titles and ones with mixed reviews ('cause you know, you might actually like them) before telling people online you cannot find games.

I would have never thought to put it like this, but it completely expresses my point of view. Thx Chavez, this is one hell of an argument.

The PSP is already region free (save umd movies). I own both, and enjoy both. I own like 40+ games for each so I'm tied in this. They both have good, and bad points, but I go where the games I want are.

Don't tell me that. Ouendan, Hotel Dusk, Patapon, Loco Roco, etc. I like niche titles just fine.

As far as playing games, DS by far. The number of non-remake PSP exclusives I like wouldn't even reach double digits, so for me the PSP is much more of a portable media player.

DS is a better gaming portable system because of the games. They are not games that you really get immersed in like rpgs, where rpgs are better played on a normal sized tv screen. And the DS has games that are uually shorter and dont depend on graphics.

Also, if you were to chip either system, you can play DS games and PS games on the DS, but you cant play DS games on the PSP (that is if you do that sort of thing)
So DS is a better portable gaming system, while the PSP is better for those who want to game but also want to watch movies on the slightly bigger screen.

In truth, I would buy the DS and not the PSP (even if I had cash for both). DS has more innovative games that you can play on the go, while the PSP is just a smaller version of a PS1 (PSP games have better console versions and are better on a TV screen). And if you want to watch movies, both systems have tiny screens for doing that (just get a portable dvd player, its cheaper and has a much bigger screen)

I have both, but I use my PSP everyday, where as my DS is currently on my desk at home, collecting a vast amount of dust. The main thing I love about the PSP is the amount of customizing you can do. I got my music, movies, etc. all in the palm of my hand, AND I can play Disgaea or FFT:WotL? Perfection. As of now, I don't have a reason to pick my DS up, because there aren't a whole lot of games that appeal to me on it. Maybe if I was 10 years younger, I'd be playing Pokemon or something, but I'd rather be playing GoW or Valkyrie profile over any of the kidde games on Nintendo's system.

Oh, and the dual screens are pointless because maybe 15% of the games for the system actually use it. Seriously, it's stupid to have 2 screens just so I can see my menu at the same time as I'm fighting or a map that only works half the time. And even when they do have the bottom screen actually doing something, it's difficult to have it respond to your stylus. Having the touch screen feature just being tacked on (like all the FF titles) is silly. If they weren't going to do anything with it, then I should have just kept my damn SP.

Nintendo DS is useful when you like to play games such as those Japanese AVI games.

It doesn't HAVE to be released on PSP, you just play the PSX version of Chrono trigger or run an emulator

I have both and I enjoy them both. If I had to choose though I'd definitely go with DS. PSP is good, but with a lack of games it doesn't stay fun as long as the DS does. It has some other nice features though which kind of make it worth it.

Personally, I see the DS as having more awesome games.
The PSP of course has a degree of being nice as well.

But not even remembering any games I would want to buy for PSP right off the bat is not a sign in favor of the PSP for me.

Wait...don't they have a Katamari game for that?
Yeah...that makes one.

And for some reason Crisis Core looks even less interesting that Dirge of Cerberus.
Is it really that much better?

Old avatar and sig retired for now.

Let them buy it. Usually if sales go well more entries of the series will happen.

It's a fun game if you don't mind the controls, and listening to the music with headphones was worth it.

Well, I've owned both and I have gotten more use outta my DS by far. But that's because PSP lacks some RPGs to appeal to me. It's also easier for me to find games for DS at the store than PSP for some reason o_O

They both have their advantages and disadvantages of course. In the end, what matters are the games you like to play. The games themselves are the important things. I have a PSP but i'll probably buy a DS this christmas. I really want to play Pokémon and Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days when it comes out * 3*

I have both, and I have them both homebrew-enabled because I think that is what both handheld do best. I like to play a lot of GBA and SNES games on my PSP. Furthermore I like original, well worked out DS games like The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. Too bad there aren't many good games like that for the DS, nor de PSP by the way. Emulators still get me going.

Overall I would say the homebrew-enabled PSP has more to offer, but the DS is surely more fun while playing with a stylus.

For the most part I think that's the case for everyone. Some places I go to have very little PSP games than DS, and it can be a pain finding niche games offline.

And yeah there are about as much RPGs on the PSP as DS, it's just the PSP ones are more niche.

I own both and I really can't decide between the two of them. They both have good game. The thing I really like about PSP is that you can turn it off during the middle of a game and then come back to the spot when you turn it back on.

I have both the psp and the ds. In terms of gaming, the ds does have a wider variety to choose from, whereas there aren't many psp games in NA. However, in terms of audio visual, the psp does look a lot better. In brief, the psp can have equivalent or better level of CG animations compared to the ps2, whereas the DS cannot have CG animation close to the Gamecube.

On the other hand, the DS does have GBA backwards-compatibility, whereas the psp cannot play any other console or portable gaming device games with the exception of psx. However, psx games that are to be played on a psp require re-purchase in the form the playstation store download. In terms of convenience, it lacks. More over, you will be required to pay twice to play the same game, just to use the psp interface.

Even so, the psp itself has good points. The psp can be served as a multi-media device that enables non-gaming functions, such as listening to music and watching videos. On top of that, people with internet functions enabled will be able to go online using their psp to download themes, wallpapers, and even demos and game add-ons, as well as many more other items.

On top of all that, it is also evident that the psp is better than the DS for another reason. The psp utilizes a memory stick to save games and other types of data, whereas the DS saves games on the DS cartridge itself, which disables the possibility of converting save files or transferring saves files onto a newer game to play with advantage. However, the newly announced DSi will change this problem, making it just as good as the psp, except for one problem: you will have to buy the DSi to experience its enhancements.

lolwut? (your vote)

It depends on which is my favourite.
The DS beats PSP if you consider games but the PSP is a great machine because of its built in media player and the web browser.
The PSP has a few great games like Loco Roco, Dexter and one of my personal favourite Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth.
