| Gantz, oh dear god, Gantz! That entire anime was just made of up flying fucks and the english dub didn't make it any better. I'm not too fond of the Vampire Knight english dub either. The voices don't suit the characters. |

It wasn't very popular so ADV Films (The dubbing company) had to do something to make people buy it. So they decided to do a joke dub. The plot was left intact but the dialogue and personality of the characters was completely different. The director of the dub was Steve Foster. He was also the director for the hilarious Cromartie High School dub and the significantly less serious dub of Highschool of the Dead. His dubs are generally awful. He's the director for most of Sentai Filmwork's dubs including the godawful Clannad dub. But this was one of the rare occasions where his direction works. Let's hope he doesn't screw up the redub of Grave of the Fireflies. |

| One Piece by 4Kids. You know you suck when your licensing rights get revoked. But these guys didn't just suck, the destroyed the entire anime. Pretty sure they did the same to any other they subbed. Naruto. Also sucked. Cheesy as he may be, Naruto always talks with a lot of emotion, his dubs were the same as Kristen Stewart. None at all. That being said, Sasuke's "Lion's Barrage" line was done fine, but the rest sucked. Fairy Tail, Animax version. My ears bled. I wonder what they were smoking when they chose the voice actors. |

| The Clannad dub wasn't /too/ bad. I think the voices were fine, but the translation in the first series was so.. formal. If you know what I mean? It's like they just translated it right from the Japanese. They didn't make the translation into their own words.. it sounded so formal for highschool students. The second series was more unformal and better though. |

| Gintama's movie had some shitty dubbing. Why in the name of fuck would you put the guy who voice acted Turles, as Gin? Another bad one is the Index dub. Everybody is decent, but Touma & Index VA's ruin the whole thing. |

He is one of the best dub voice actors around. You ever seen him in Welcome to the NHK or Full Metal Panic? He was amazing. Also, the reason why they picked Chris Patton is because in Kanon, he played another character by Tomokazu Sugita. Sentai Filmworks often pick voice actors based on their past roles. Personally I think it 's a great idea for Chris Patton to voice Kintoki but maybe it is a miscast. I haven't seen the movie though so I can't comment on his performance. But if it's like all his other roles, he's probably amazing. |

(this is even though I thought Haruhi's dub was okay and the voice actress suited Haruhi -she pulled an Aya Hirano in English too i.e she did Konata as well but lucky star is just so culturally nuanced that all attempts to dub it will fail) |

There was also a lot of 4Kids dubs. I didn't like that they changed most of the names from Japanese to English names. Example, Tokyo Mew Mew to "Mew Mew Power". Objectively? God no. Almost nothing in anime in objective. Dubbing quality is one of those. You can call One Piece a bad dub but there's probably someone out there who disagrees. When comparing it to the Japanese version I can understand why you call it terrible but on its own it stands up as a great kids show. That's more than I can say for most other 4kids dubs. They hacked it apart but who cares? It worked out fine. It's not like they were hacking apart Shakespeare. The Pokemon anime is basically an ad for the games. It's the same thing that Japan are doing with the advertising of Windows 8. They made it appeal to a Japanese otaku audience by having moe mascots. Does anyone complain about that? No |

No It didn't stand up as a great 4kids show though, it flopped and 4kids hated doing it. If you bother to read any of the interviews from people that run 4kids even they say that One Piece was not a good show for them because it was aimed at a demographic that was slightly older than what they want. There's no such thing as objectivity in anime if you continue to ignore objective comments about anime and anime history all in the name of your precious opinion. |

K-On! is awkward; the voice acting itself sounds exactly as goofy as it should but only Yui's voice stands out while everyone else suffers from same-voice syndrome. |

It's just that he sounded as if he was trying too hard to be funny. See for yourself: You know what? I take back all I said. The only decently sounding characters in the dub is Hijikata and Sougo. Everybody else was awful. Shinpachi especially. God, I felt like my ears were gonna bleed. |

| I've had my fair share of bad dubs over the years but the one that comes to mind is Spiral. I've heard the manga is good but my friend and I only got through like five minutes of one of the episodes dubbed before we burst out laughing. Rule of Note, Anime Industry: You DO NOT change a deep-voiced badass character to a southern redneck accent for no apparent reason. I mean, just damn. |

It seemed fine at first but they soon realised that One Piece wouldn't work with American kids. So basically they just censored the shit out of it until Funimation took over. Also, I'm pretty sure that you missed the point of what I was trying to say. You do know I was talking about Pokemon, right? But the script ruined every show but Pokemon The problem with Stephanie Sheh as Yui is not that she did a bad job. She's a very talented veteran voice actress and this role certainly shows off her skill (Like the husky voice part). It's just that she was a pretty horrible miscast. She sounds nothing like the seiyuu. Aki Toyosaki was cute sounding but she wasn't squeaky and high pitched. While Tsumugi was not that great, the rest of the cast aren't bad. The main problem I have with it is, as you said, it's awkward. Within the first 5 minutes of Episode 8 in Season 2 I can spot several awkward translation choices. The characters curse the English language in one joke... while speaking English. They sound like weeaboo dub haters condemning the English language. There's also an untranslated Japanese auxilliary verb song (Which the English voice actor sings in Japanese). There's a few others but I'm starting to ramble. Fact of the matter is, it's bloody awkward |
