Lol I find it rather fascinating that Durarara's Light novel sells high, the manga low, and the anime decent, i guess manga, anime, and light novels really do cater to different people.

I wouldn't call it "so damn popular", but for a Josei, it's doing an awesome job.

.

drrr was originally a LN.
LN tells us the whole story and all those delicous details (which is still not yet finished) while the anime is merely an introduction or an advertisement for the LN. as for the manga....no1currs about the manga...

there was already a fanbase of the series even before there was an anime adaptation. and i guess the people who became fans after the anime have no choice but to continue reading the LN if they want more of the story

My point was that see'ing as most series (I merely used Durarara as an example, since it was the first to pop on my mind when i saw the list) sell at different scales on different formats, it seems that LN's/Mangas/Animes/VN's cater to different people, but i guess that's common knowledge now, isn't it?

and i disagree, anime isn't necessarily for "advertisement", sure, some of them are (mainly short ones, though not all of them) but most aren't, but i guess you don't need me to tell you that though xD

Slow week for light novel releases too. Apart from one thing which usually wouldn't have got in the rankings, the only releases this week were a couple of manga adaptations, helping biblia and SAO to steal the rankings yet again.

Chihayafuru's at number 1? Good news. Although season 1 wasn't high in ratings, seems like the manga got significant sales boost as a result. Go underrated animes!

And I thought Ao no Exorcist will go down in popularity since the anime ended. Seems like we could expect a 2nd season.

As usual, nice job to SAO, KnB, and OreImo.

Shounen mangas rarely ever decrease in sales, it IS the leading genre. and Yeah, the producer said a second season is under concideration, we might get one, but don't get your hopes up too much.

What "crappy" anime? and what advertisement?

SAO anime is horribly flawed and the pacing is tremendously fast, mainly the character relations.

Anime itself is an advertisement. The purpose of a anime is to increase its sources' sales.

So glad Code Breaker is on the list again. I really hope the rumors of the anime being a 1 cour is false. This is the 2nd best battle-manga in Weekly Magazine(IMO). It has the potential be good competition for FT, the current leader in Weekly Magazine.

There's still plenty of episodes left though. and most animes aren't "advertisement", at this point saying anime is for the sole purpose of advertisement is plain outrageous. for various reasons. but i'm not denying that there are plenty of animes out there made for advertisement.

and Code breaker vs FT? Not even close to it (The fight scenes are good though, not on par with FT's, but still good, although the Characters, Story, design, etc can't even compared to FT), FT is nearly the perfect Shounen Action/Battle manga, along with One piece and its neighbours lol.

Downgrade, I know there's still half of the episodes remaining. But if it continues to rush everything so much and leave out so much important scenes, I won't be able to increase my score.

Money. Anime is about money. No matter how much you want to deny it, 99% anime is advertisement. Its what boosts manga, novels, and video game sales. (Not to mention related merchandise)
Original anime are the only ones that aren't intended to boost sales since there is nothing to boost.

FT vs CB
lt has the potential though. And its the only one that can compete againt FT in Magazine. Negima and Air Gear ended and their respective anime failed.
The only aspect it can't compare against FT is art. Obviously, since its done by Mashima.
Plot wise:
Fairy Tails main aspect is good guys triumphs and comedy. (Recent event might change that slightly though)
Code Breaker is noticeably darker than that and most characters don't have a clear/noticeable agenda. Good stuff there.

Yeah i know, if they rush it they'll screw up everything, and they're already starting to do so lol.

And nope, i disagree, if anime was for the sole purpose of advertisement then "99%" of them would be short, Studios aren't as dumb as to waste the money that one could build a friggin villa with only to advertise a product that could end in a big failure and make them go bankrupt. There's also the whole Sequel and Prequel thing, if they intend to advertise something, one short season is enough (i could be wrong though, who knows). and as you mentioned, there are plenty of original anime, so that invalides the whole anime=advertisement arguement, There are also Video game adaptions, They adapt them to anime for the purpose of making money off anime if the game was successful, There are conventions, trailers, etc for advertisement. and there are also Anime who get manga/LN/video game adaptions, you're gonna tell me it's to advertise the anime now? C'mon bro. be smart lol
oh and let's not forget those 40+ episode ones, and the long running ones.

Code;Breaker has potential, but they screwed it up in many points, not to mention the mangaka is female, i'm not trying to discriminate here, but female mangaka almost never make a solid Shounen. FT whoops CB in every aspect...except for the jiggle gangs .__.

This is getting pretty off topic gash (lolfu), let's continue the discussion on the club page, or we might get some ban hammers. xD

Most female shounen mangaka have the problem of drawing fujoshi-bait characters, which could make some males avoid this manga. I for example liked Kyo, but the character-designs made me drop it (Nobunaga as a long white-haired guy on a white horse..?) she ruined some historical figures from the Japanese Sengoku era. However, there are still some other that can and has done some great solid shounen-manga, like Soul Eater for example, or give Magi a try this Fall, it's also made by a female, it deals with themes like poverty, slavery, economics and politics, themes that are not often used in shounen manga.

and its those shaky shonen which are fujoshi bait which make a lot of money for anime producers. XD ao no exorcist, code breaker, kurobas(I still think from time to time...is the mangaka really male? O_O), FMA(yes, fujoshi loved it too) samurai kyo like the person above said, black butler, DRRR and so on. so while they may not make the greatest shonens....they do attract the ladies. XD

I'll be honest. The reason I started really reading Code Breaker and Black Butler was for the bishies since I usually stay away from shonen manga since I find them boring. X3

Oh and I'm looking forward to Magi too. :D I was planning reading it but now I'll watch it instead.

I got a warning for going off-topic like this before, though. and we're not talking about sales and ads only ;p

The fujoshi-bait characters are only one of the many problems (Although i'm almost certain that most of the mangaka do not intend to make it fujoshi-bait, but their art style always turns out that way). but i'm sure most readers don't mind the shoujo-ish male characters in shounen mangas, see'ing as some of the mangas that fit the critera actually sell. and it's not like you'll read a shounen for the character design xD
That's a nice example you gave there, kudos for that. Soul Eater is one of the few solid Shounens by female mangaka, and i loved every bit of it. I also know of Magi, as far as my knowledge goes, it's based on the tales of Aladin and ali baba and those arabic tales, i've read and watched many of them as a kid, and trust me, Aladin and Ali baba don't look one bit like those in that manga. doesn't make it less watch worthy though, and yeah, you don't find those themes much in Shounen, they're mostly in those serious Seinen and sometimes Josei.

and its those shaky shonen which are fujoshi bait which make a lot of money for anime producers.

Err, not really, none of those you mentioned are a fujoshi bait or were they made to attract fujoshi (unless you want to think that way xD), i mean c'mon, Shounen, the leading genre, for a niche market? But hey, i'm not saying they don't attract female readers, Shounen is "readable" by everyone, that includes female otaku, fujoshi, non-otaku readers, you name it. iirc we already had a similar discussion and even jmal joined lol, and we all came to the conclusion that despite such shows have a fairly big female readers, and by female readers i mean FEMALE readers, that includes all female readers, the consumers are still predominantly male.
go read Kuroshitsuji and Hetalia, those are fujoshi bait, specifically hetalia, and even then, they have a male fanbase. and i told you this before, but fujoshi will be there watching any kind of anime as long as they think it's "slashable", whatever the demographic or content maybe, wether it's shounen or shoujo or even kodomo, they'll be there.

i find Shounen boring too, but some of them are too awesome to miss out, specifically stuff like One piece, FT, Bleach, KnB, etc.

EDIT: this is a certain ban hammers i should be expecting lol, damn you guys.

I think ads and sales and stuff like that are on topic.

I guess we have pretty much the same views lol
Of course it's just their drawing style, they don't try to make fujoshi-bait manga, I don't think any shounen-mangaka draws in a shounen manga just to draw for fujoshis. I also don't think people mind cute male characters or that art-style when there's a good plot and the characters are actually good.
Magi's MCs are colorful and different (it's Japan we're talking about here), but some other characters (villain and minor characters) are more Arabic-style. If you know these arabic tales then you'll find some familiar stuff while watching Magi, which makes it more fun to watch. (I have a good knowledge in these tales, from when I was a child and I read a bit more into these tales after reading Magi )

Btw we're speaking about Fujoshi and what sells here, so it's on-topic somehow. :P

A couple of years ago I read that DC's author already thought of how to end Conan, but Conan is one of the best manga/anime in Japan (TV ratings & manga ratings), so I doubt it's gonna end any soon, it might go over 100 volumes.

and once again, I forgot to say that I meant that the hardcore fans for those shows are female. >_< that's a bad habit I have......

that's why I said anime producers. the manga is read by boys oh yes and like you said shounen is for everyone which is why a manga like chiyayafuru which is a josei can never reach one piece's sales. :(

because its the hardcore fans who support it and oh my gosh I'm probably gonna get a ban too I'm gonna shut up. >_< kthxbye. D:

Yeah, i've used this as an example before, it's like a Hentai artist, a hentai artist who likes Busty girls will draw the girls Busty, and a hentai artist who likes Lolis and is used to drawing them will make any character look like a Loli, it's just their art style, it's the way the characters are designed. Take Brave10 for example, it's mangaka is used to drawing Bishounens and BL, then she tried to make a Seinen, she didn't exactly fail, but it was heavy on the bishounen and BL stuff, now i believe it was moved to a Shojo or a Josei magazine, iirc.
But like i said, most readers don't mind the whole bishounen thing, they read it for the actual content.

Yeah, Magi, despite the female mangaka, it's fairly Shounen and its plot is interesting, and to be frank, those arabic tales are damn awesome, it's not like the generic supernatural stuff.

Well, talking about Fujoshi isn't exactly ontopic but yeah, i guess we're discussing the sales and stuff. on a side note, wasn't there an old anime about those arabic tales? i remember see'ing one somewhere...

Lol hardcore fans as in those convention attendants, doujinshi buyers and stuff? But hardcore fans are something, and consumers are something else, consumers buy the manga for reading the manga, "hardcore" fans are basically collectors and stuff. i guess you somewhat have a point and i agree with it.

and to be frank the manga is read by boys and girls xD, we're all the same foo.

also relax, no one's going to ban you, you're not breaking any rules...i think? Well it's not like you got a warning like me so...
