Is such combination even possible? I was shocked the first time I saw Yaoi anime (Gravitation) ~10+ years ago. The anime was fine and dandy until the elevator scene. I regret not finding out what genre it was, and my mind was forever scarred. Fast forward to 2012. I decided to actually give yaoi a go, but I could barely finished 1st ep of Junjou Romantica. Switched to Sekai Ichi Hatsukoi and had to drop it half way through 1st ep. I'm also relieved to say that my manhood did not twitch even once. (srs) I'd say it's a viable way to explore your sexual preference. xD Now, I don't mind BL in a comedy sense where the producers made it clear to the viewer that it's 100% unrequited and will never developed further; it's just there for shit and giggles every now and then. I'm curious to see what you straight male out there who enjoys watching Yaoi have to say for having this unique preference. |

You're homophobic. I probably am as well to an extent, but not enough to not enjoy homosexual love stories. Do I want to see two guys banging? Not really, but that's because it's not a sexual experience I can relate to or have any interest in (I don't mind if there is kissing or implied sex, etc). I can appreciate a love story between two males and actually find them quite interesting, considering the amount of extra obstacles there are in comparison to conventional relationships. They can be equally as touching as conventional love stories, or arguable moreso. It's just more gender roles bullshit, like almost every thread that begins "do any guys..." or "do any girls...". If you're going to begin a thread with that, don't. |

I'm completely fine with male couples taking it up the ass, get married, and take it up the ass some more. It doesn't bother me one bit as long as they stay away from my butthole. (not a joke) "Gender role bullshit"? -Why are you so butthurt about this? There's nothing to be mad about. I'm just asking a question we all already know the answer to but in a more specific way. If I were to exclude the 'straight male' part, then what's the point? Yaoi is enjoyed all kinds of people. It's just a speculation that 'straight male' category is the least likely to enjoy it. I've have yet to come across any yaoi anime or manga that seemed very interesting to me at all, but for the most part, romance isn't really a genre that I am a big fan of regardless. I guess the closest I've come to enjoying something of the sort was Houkago Hokenshitsu. I haven't really looked into it much at all, but it still seems to me that most stuff that features gay/lesbian romance focus a lot on the fact that they are not straight relationships. What I mean to say is that I think they focus too much on the "taboo" of the relationship to the point that it gets in the way of the story. I think a good example of doing the opposite of this would be Not Simple. In Not Simple, one of the main characters is gay, but it isn't really a strong force in the story at all. They don't treat it as something different, but rather more in the way of instead of a character that happens to have a girlfriend, he happens to have a boyfriend, and I think Not Simple is an amazing manga. TL;DR - I wouldn't mind it if done well, but I don't think most people do it well in my eyes, but it is not something that I would seek out regardless. Also, Not Simple is great. Well, hopefully that made a bit of sense at least. |

I'm indifferent towards the genre. I don't enjoy it, and I certainly don't want to watch it, but I'm not a yaoi hater or anything. Just not for me. For what it's worth, I'm not a massive yuri fan either, but I do enjoy a nice yuri every once in a while. |

I'd be decently freaked out if I saw two guys fucking, but it's not like I'm against it or anything. Also this is just a thread asking a simple question, you are over-analyzing it to death. Too bad the shit the op uses as example isn't 2 dudes bangin'. It's all shounen-ai romance stuff. Couple that with the fact him saying BL is okay only when it's comedic and in small doses, he comes off a little homophobic. IN theory one could think it's gross and tolerate it but this topic isn't about theory. |

Yes it does (tolerance =/= acceptance) and since when is trying to get to the root of the problem considered over-analyzing? There's no point in having a discussion otherwise. This isn't always the case, but when someone claims over-analyzing it just makes me think they are uncomfortable with actually thinking about whatever. To clarify the homophobic thing though, I'm not saying it makes you or anyone else a bad person. I know I'm homophobic myself, it's near impossible to not be growing up as a straight male (in most places, I'd think). There is a world of difference between someone recognizing it/trying to combat it and the op, however. |

As I said, despite what this site and other label them as, the tones in SIH and JR are much heavier than what you'd find in actual shounen-ai titles. You do have a point about the 1st episodes though (but in Junjou the guy does get borderline molested but apart from that it's very tame). |

He also said that being homophobic doesn't make you a bad person so there's no negativity being directed toward homophobia either. Rather, as he and Anime_Name pointed out, it's the mindset in dealing with it that makes the difference. And if you are in the I don't give a shit category then why are you taking offense at a jab directed toward something you're not (IE, homophobic)? As for the rest of your post, I'm going to have to go with Anime_Name on this one. And before you pull out the kids getting upset card, I'm pretty sure you used an alt to take offense at an analogy I made with Japanese voices and Stockholm Syndrome. Here you singled me out for using manga as an example yet left alone other people who brought up reading themselves. You honestly think nobody is going to call you on your shenanigans? And you're seriously older than me? What has the previous generation created. It makes me so depressed. |

As a straight male, I can say I can WATCH yaoi, but I wouldn't go out of my way to do so. Closest thing I got to that was No. 6. But yuri on the other hand, I can't even watch without either sleeping or extreme boredom. I'd have to say it's not such much as I find yaoi disturbing, but more that I like my character relationships to be straight. |
