| in the anime, he's a jerk. in the manga, he's caring and compassion . in the game, he's alright, but mostly depends on what u want him to do. im saying this because i've seen the anime, read the manga and got the game and playing it. |

I know that he's the main character and that without him the story would be a crap, but... I FUCKING HATE HIM!!!, he just played with sekai and kotonoha and with that face of good guy of his, he deceived everyone and he's the most selfish character that i've ever watched on an anime, he just thinks with his dick. She was bad to Kotonoha, but in all honesty, she had no loyalties to Kotonoha and as someone else already pointed out - Makoto is the cheating bastard and he should have properly broken up with poor Kotonoha, instead of just ignoring her and acting like she didn't exist. Plus, you can't say Sekai created Makoto into being a pervert because the first time he spent time with Kotonoha, he tried to feel her up? Kotonoha was somewhat AFRAID of Makoto for a while, because she was afraid ofall boys and he only made it worse - that was not from Sekai, either. I don't think Sekai is innocent, either, she did make some retarded mistakes, but she was being driven insane by someone that only used her for sex, and when she said no, he went with every other girl he could. | I do not like Makoto's behavior in the anime what-so-ever... but in his defense, if you were offered tons of sex by girls all around you, do you say no? It's a lot harder than you may think, especially since some of them gave off the "We don't need any strings attached," mentality. Some of them thought it'd work in that situation, cmon now! A confused young teen getting mixed messages, while no one gave him the dose of reality he needed. They all fed into the mixed crap, and how is he supposed to react? I don't condone it but I can level with him. And to say that this guy would be avoided in real life? I beg to differ... I know some real life Makoto's and in all honesty, this kind of thing happens more than we notice (sans the vicious ending). They are really good guys, but when it comes to relationships and girls, they completely fail. When I was a teenager, I can vouch that I knew nothing and was very immature. The initial hormone roller-coaster makes guys do stupid crap w/o even noticing. |

| I think I'm one of the few that likes Makoto. Sure he got caught up in what was going on and lost sight of who he was but near the end he found himself. It's not his fault all these different women want to be with him. Also, just because he was a cheater doesn't mean he deserved to die. I think a more appropriate ending would've been all the girls dumping him and him realizing he doesn't need to be in a relationship. |

At first I thought he was just stupid, and that he only had feelings for Sekai; not much was going on between him and the other girls, he was just afraid to dump them. But when I got into later episodes I realized that he didn't even care for Sekai that much. All he cared about was sex. |

| I'm not defending Makoto, but I see him getting all the "spotlight" and the faults of other characters are often overlooked, I'll just throw in my two cents for the sake of objectivity. First off, I'll say that he is an asshole, but not a bad guy, it is true that he emotionally destroyed female characters, but killing him was uncalled for. Throughout earlier episodes, he did show sympathy, and guilt. I think Sekai should be criticized more, while this alone does not liberate Makoto from his faults, misbehavior on her part should be exposed and you need to think about how the story would've been if it weren't for Sekai attempting to confuse Makoto by sending him mixed messages, and how she contributed to the development of Makoto as a character. I personally think Makoto couldn't have developed this way if it weren't for Sekai(seeing that he was feeling so guilty about cheating at first), she pretty much introduced him to cheating, yes, Makoto was at fault too but she should've refrained herself when she knew that the relationship between Katsura and Makoto was starting and I think Makoto gradually became desensitized about other people's feelings because of this. Perhaps Sekai triggered all this disaster and ended up tasting her own medicine near the end and killing another person for whatever reason other than protecting one's own life should not be justified. |

| School Days (anime): He felt guilty for what he did in the beginning so I felt sympathy for his death. I didn't care for Sekai in this version either. School Days (manga): Felt worse for him and felt more animosity towards Sekai. Cross Days (manga): Makoto is a jerk without a conscious in this version so no sympathy from me. School Days (game): I generally thought he was a decent guy depending on the choices as the player you choose. |

| I actually think Makato is alright. In the anime he is a real ass and knows what he's done is wrong but doesn't bother to stop or redeem it. Saddened aby his death since he finally got together with Kotonoha. In the manga he is a very nice guy, complete opposite of the anime. I actually liked him better in this one. In the game it all depends on the choices you make. So he isn't really to be blamed if he ends up making bad choices (your choices). |
