Why did Kanade and Yuzuru have to leave right when they were hugging D':

But they did meet in the real world though.

A tip to get over it, read a comedy manga or watch a comedy anime.

Grow up. It's a work of fiction.

As for something a bit more helpful. Go watch something happy and uplifting, probably something in the vein of slice of life and/or comedy.

Would you prefer something abit therapuetic or something closer to escapism?

Therapuetic: If they lived on in the afterlife, they would've eventually become numb to their daily life and forget 'accomplish' and 'happiness'. They wouldn't be able to finsih their goals and move on because of that, and they'd be integrated as NPCs. A fate worse then death.

Escapism: Watch something funny like Dick Figures, happy Tree friends, or an anime comedy. Or something NOT done by Key...

But in the last scene they were given a second chance to live(I guess)
thats why they were able to meet at the last scene, where a short-haired kanade
humming the song Iwasawa performed before fading. Then Otanashi recognized
it then he tap kanade's back. For me its a tear jerking happy ending.

No.

There's an epilogue though, short OVA.

"There were some news that Angel Beat! will have an season 2. According my search in the Net, Its seem that Jun Maede an interview in some manga magazine announce that he will make "Angel Beat! : 2ND Term" for season 2 of it and it will be out on Spring 2011.
Another hint that Angel Beat! will have another season is the alternate ending of it, Were Otonoshi become the next student council president and help the another people to pass on but still waiting for Kanade to return to Afterlife school."
But there still no season 2, so maybe it got delayed or something.
watch the ova its the alternate ending where Otonashi didnt fade away or reincarnated along with kanade.

Kill yourself. After you do, 100% of your problems will be gone. Or cut your dick off - that would be something to be really sad about. :|

Anime might not be for you if you thought Angel Beats was the pinnacle of sad. Warning, don't watch Air TV.
While not technically anime, currently I am a big fan of Hatsune Miku.
At least I can go see her in concert.

I'm a bit of a crybaby, especially when it comes to Jun Maeda's works...seriously Little Busters and Kanon get me in pieces...

And yet, I couldnt even come close in Angel Beats at all, I liked it and had an attachment to "some" of the characters but I just couldnt get emotionally involved in it as I had with some of the other works out there.

So yeah, I suppose it's reassuring to see people who can break down to alot less.

My advice though, dont dwell on it and watch something funny, I found that Nichijou can pretty much cheer you up from near suicide it's so light hearted and amusing. =)

Hmm well maybe in this persons case, but for Key work at least, I'd rate it like this for emotional stories to draw tears and make you feel miserable.

Little Busters > Kanon 2006 > Clannad:AS > Clannad > Angel Beats > Air

Of course that's purely my own opinion as only the first two ever evoked emotion from me...I just never had that response with Clannad despite liking alot of the characters.

Watch Clannad After Story. It will make you laugh and smile and all that crap of happiness.

No, but seriously? Get over it, it's just an anime. I can understand being sad right after seeing it for maybe an hour or two, but a week? Really? And I'm saying this as someone who cried like a goddamn baby when I saw the last episode. But I got over it.

Better question, how did you not. Seeing the actions of Otonashi made me actually question my life style.

I've spent most of my life lazying around drugging myself, smoking, and having sex. I basically get my kicks out of beating the crap out of people and mugging them...but after I saw his actions, I changed for two months.

For two months, I was clean...I didn't do shit, I even helped an old woman across the street. Seriously, the old me woulda beaten the crap out of me for doing shit like that.

Clannad wasn't sad at all. Okay, maybe the Fuko arc a little.
Also, seconded. You probably wouldn't even finish After Story, but you should eventually, as it is a masterpiece.

The only anime that actually got me depressed for 2-3 days is School Days, and I've sworn to myself that that would NEVER happen again.

i kind of know what your talking about because i felt a little bit hmmmm... sad?

but i just watched all the new anime to make me forget about angel beats in away and also if you are really obsessed with the anime and cant get enough there is a manga for it called "angel beats! heavens door" which is plotted before otanshi had joined. it starts with how it formed and everything.. so i guess its like a pre season 2? :L just in manga.. (its ongoing)

Angel Beats! is really one of those shows that make you look at your own life and make you wanna change.
The reason i found it so sad was because i felt like i wanted to see more :(
(Spoiler) I felt like i wanted to see that purple haired dude confess to Yuri since he had a picture of her.
I also wanted to see the stories of all the other people.
The thing that helped me was i quickly imagined them all meeting IRL.
Making your own ending, like a bawz.
Btw if you miss the characters you can just watch the episode 4.5 (OVA).
Since i'm guessing a lot of people skipped that one when watching the anime, it's not sad at all and just funny all the way through that may help.
First now realised that I can't get a signature because disabled BBCode e.e

Just get hold of yourself, I know your pain and I have been kind of disappointed when I saw the ending but, they could make a season 2 if they want too, like otonashi meets kanade, then by each episode they continue to meet the rest of the gang like shiina fujimaki yurippe etc... Then they remembered everything thatbhappened in the other world, they start to go to highschool and show mischievous and funny they are being clumsy at school and maybe some romance will be good. So remember guys is not that they can't do it is that they don't want to do it there a lot of ideas how to continue my myself founded lots, but I am still young and I wanna be a author of high quality anime, graphic a strong consistent story line many characters romance and lots of comedy! Thanks guys.

Angle Beats had it's sad moments but not something that I realy needed to get over. Though after Clannad AS I didn't want to live anymore, I was questioning why I was still alive. But what brought me out of that depression was one of my all time favorites "My Bride is a Mermaid." You should give that a try or some other good comedy.

yeah this is basically the same reaction that i had also to AB and Clannad AS, although the ending theme of Angel Beats still makes me all nostalgic and sentimental every time i hear it. but i see what you mean by trying to get over it. AB was the first anime that made me cry (i was bawling at the end of the episode with Naoi's story) since i've never cried at a movie/tv show before, so it took me a while to recover. basically if you want to get over it, avoid Key-related series for a while and instead watch a straightforward comedy series like Seitokai Yakuindomo or something.

It mildly annoys me when people come along into a discussion about how emotional they found something and say, "I didn't find this sad at all." Same deal with a horror discussion, "lol this wasn't scary" is decidedly unwelcome.

Let me tell you a little something.

Before Angel Beats!, I hadn't cried for YEARS. Well, onions aside, of course.

I was sobbing through the end credits.

I'd have to agree with bubblesoda, though, that OVA cheered me up so quickly.

I know that they met up in the next life, but that didn't serve to diminish the sorrow of parting in the afterlife.

Any way to get over a series like this which brings out these emotions like KEY is known to do is simply just watch a show where it's all :D and comedy. That's what I did for Toradora once it finished- I was in a a bit of a slump for a few days but you get there- it's just doing it your own way.

I can't tell everyone the perfect solution but just don't get too caught up with the show blending the supernatural dramedy with your own reality otherwise you'll miss out small bits from your life.

I was sad cuz comedy of the final episode was not funny. That episode was rather weak for the ending. Other than that, I don't understand why you felt sad. They left for new lives.

The plot of the whole story was unique and interesting, but the mediocre ending was a bit disappointing. Yuzuru and Kanade reminded me of Teiichi and Yuuko from Dusk Maiden of Amnesia.

We'll he will decide to go and vanish from the after life when he does he will get a second chance at life (end of episode 13 ) and they will remember each other according to episode 13 he will remember "angel" and grab onto her shoulder ,therefore there is no reason to cry but I also shredded tears until I saw the very end of episode 13 .sorry for the spoilers everybody.!!!!!!
