THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Holy crap! They explicitly described the rape scene! I expected something radical, but not to this degree.

The actings of Noto Mamiko as Fujino was incredible. She faithfully reproduced Fujino's weakness and cruelty. I'm not satisfied with the description of Fujino's power at the first half of the battle scene. It would have been a better composition of the layouts to make the destructions more dynamic. But the drawings of Fujino in her vomited blood was quite in detail and "painfully" beautiful.

When the bridge collapsed, I was surprised to hear the slow BGM. It was a unique and wise choice to express Fujino's distress. In this OVA, it's not certain Fujino got blind due to the peritonitis. According to the interview with Nasu Kinoko, she did and that's her penalty for the murders.

The last Shiki's smile shot me right in the center of my heart!

That was already my favourite part of the novel, but I didn't think ufotable would do something THIS incredible. The adaptation was just perfect, Noto Mamiko was perfect, Yuki Kajiura's OST was perfect (without a doubt her best soundtrack ever), the animation & art too, so to sum it up, I'm uterly impressed...

In every age, in every place, the deeds of men remain the same.

Without a doubt, this third movie obviously surpasses the previous ones. Goddamn, everything was just perfect: Animation, Sound, every darn thing. Mamiko's role as Fujino was more than awesome, Sakamoto's continues just perfect, jesus.

I've got to hand it to ufotable, their special effects with the rain just takes my breath away. I don't even know what to talk about. I've got no words to describe the movie. : <

Fujino's 'MAGAREEE' is going on repeat inside my mind. God. Another thing that just came to mind, I was told of the rape scene soon before watching the movie, but I wouldn't expect it to be as explicit as that. Perfect job, imo.

When I see things like what Keita and his gang did animated, it makes me want to puke and chop some heads off. It's an important story element, I realize that but if you seriously think that's cool, you are better off dead.

That's the only reason I'm not giving this a 10. The rest was amazing as always. I could watch a whole 2 hour movie animated like this, just showing rain in a few different places at different times during the day. The detail is mind blowing. The OST is the best one so far, I'm definitely getting it.

Judging from the preview, the next movie will most probably by my first Rakkyo 10. I can't wait.

Yeah it's definitely disturbing and if a person really gets off on seeing someone repeatably used and gang raped then that person should probably consider getting professional help. But as you said it's necessary for trying to understand Fujino or at least form some empathy with her.

What I meant by it's great that ufotable is pulling out all the stops, is that they are trying to stay true to the source material and not remove an element entirely in order to cater to the widest group of people possible. Censorship just sucks, especially when it's financially motivated. If a person is not mature enough to watch something, then cutting out one scene and showing the rest of it to a 13 year old will still effect the kid in someway. It may benefit the distributor's wallet, but it will do more harm to the kid and society in the long term.

I don't think anyone here mentioned that it was cool or good in anyway. Knowing Nasu's source material, the novel, while the rape scene plays an important part in understanding Fujino and the plot to the fullest, I don't think anyone was expecting to see what ufotable, and the other's involved with, did. You won't see that in your everyday broadcasted TV anime, but we kinda have to give props for the producers to leeping faithful to it's source, as well as not being a target to any kind of censorship (Alas, a simple phrase or two could knock out that whole part).

Now, if there really was someone who actually enjoyed seeing that, god, professional help is needed.

The movies haven't diverted one bit from the novel so far. I hope it stays that way.

For those free downloaders, I quote the interviews with the Director Obunai and Noto Mamiko about the opening scene from the brochure of Tsuukaku Zanryuu movie.

Interviewer: The opening scene was so shoking.

Director Obunai: Is it? I think it's essential, so I should depict the scene in that detail. We have long discussed how to draw that scene and we took great care not to make it "Hentai anime". We are not making R18 anime. Yet, the whole story of Tsuukaku Zanyuu requires this scene and everything started from here, so I wanted to describe it fiercely. I had carefully deliberated on the moderation of how violent the scene should be.

Interviewer: Could you tell us how you and ufotable decided on the opening scene?

Obunai: President Koudou strongly insisted this movie should start from the rape scene. First, I resisted his opinion, but I agreed with him after long discussions with other staff. In any case, I was planning to make the opening scene shocking, so I'm satisfied with the outcome now.

Interviewer: What do you think about the opening scene?

Noto Mamiko: I was strongly impressed by ufotable's thoughts that this scene was indispensable for the movie. The viewers will throughly understand why everything turned wrong and downfall after that tragic event. But I expect some viewers will be jolted to see the part of the movie alone.
It's up to each viewer, but I want the fans to sympathize with Fujino in her despair and fear.

It's better to discuss this issue after understanding what the staff were thinking about it.

It was indeed beautiful. The scene where Fujino and Shiki began to fight was breathtaking. However, my favorite soundtrack is still Fukan Fuukei's.
Very very much looking forward to the next one, Shiki's accident is what interests me most so far.

I wonder how many times I yelled "FUJINOOOO" at my screen when I watched it.
The adaption was much much better than I imagined it would be, and I was like the most, not prepared for this detailed rape scenes. I was expecting some shadows and moans or something.
I loved the way the Fujino's bends were animated, and that last scene when she bended the whole bridge was amazingly animated as well.
The battle between Shiki and Fujino, the rain, Touko driving, the music; everything was excellent in this movie.

Waiting so long for this movie was more than worth it, 10/10 and as I was almost expecting, it ended up in my top 5 favorites.

I was grossed out but still in awe. I give it a 10 because it was just so powerful, it managed to depress me. This series is just amazing, and each episode surpasses the previous one.

This was quite great I have to say.
It had quite a huge load of shocking stuff that caught me totally of guard after the quite last movie that showed some splatter too, but not actually this much of the action leading to it.
Additionally to that the as always amazing animation made those scenes even more realistic as well as awesome.
Other then most people here I strangely didn't found that much appeal in the ost/bgm.

Overall a well deserved 9/10 I think.

I agree.

This was the best one so far and this time it deserves the 9 without any second thoughts. I won't give the 10, though, because I didn't enjoy it like I would enjoy a 10.

Splatter, blood and brutality is not my thing. But I have to say it fits this series somehow. It's done a bit like some sort of weird art and I am not really disturbed by it as I normally am. I don't say I enjoy it, but I think it seems to be necessary for this anime.

The opening scene and some of the detailed murders were really of a degree that I would have never expected from an anime. But they were made in an intelligent way adding to the overall mood of this black show.
I can't really believe, though that everyone still protected that Keita guy after everything he did. o_O

Kotomi did a good voice acting job again. Interesting choice. Very good.
Fujino really managed to find a spot in my heart and Shiki & Kokuto were amazing like always.

Art was awesome like always.

These movies are certainly top notch in terms of quality, animation, and soundtrack. I thought the murder scenes and the unexpected rape scene did well in contributing and fitting to the movie's mood and Fujino's character. Shiki was awesome as well.

Oh and love the little shorts in the beginnning when they are in a theatre. Next movie looks great too.

haha, tohsaka smoking... that made me lol.. specially those chocolate cigarettes xD

well, as for the movie, it was great. Noto did a great job as Fujino, and Fujino's character grew greatly on me. everything was great, once again. the animation was fluent, the BGM was awesome, the story was just really good.

i didn't really expect those rape scenes... but i guess it was inevitable to understanding the thinking inside fujino's head... imo, it was the best choice they could have done (the worst being changing the facts from the novel, and erasing the scenes.... which would be bad since... well, we wouldn't understand fujino as well)

i gotta say, i was completely happy at the end when shiki said that she only killed fujino's pain. i was pretty sad seeing fujino die slowly, and in pain. also, its good that they finally explain what happened to shiki's arm... it made me think "ahh, so thats what happened... interesting"

rain effects = godly
fujino's mental powers = godly
shiki's tsundereness (is it?) = godly

and we even got to see azaka in this movie... 10/10

Amazing. :D

I really enjoyed this one (not that I didn't enjoy the others), though the beginning really was kind of... shocking? At first I thought that there was some major necrophilia going on, then when I realized that it was rape... >:O
But I understand that it was needed.

Once again KnK delivers absolutely amazing animation and an orgasmic OST.

I really want to play some more Tsukihime now (that's for you dumbasatri).

10/10 from me.

every time i watch a KnK movie, i cant help but have the feeling that what im watching is truly art. while this episode proves that the series is definitely not for kids, whoever is directing these movies is really something. the voice acting, the music, the (incredible) visuals, the script, it all comes together in a way that could (and should) be described as perfect. the next one cant come soon enough.

also, Shiki's smile at the end just nailed me.

also, i love you WinterNightsFall

Only because that's the kind of person Kokuto is. Despite his ill feelings toward the rapist, he doesn't want to see anyone die. I don't think anybody else besides Kokuto actually gave a shit.

Lol, me too XD.

What can I say that hasn't already been said? Definetley, 100%, this has been the best movie out of the three so far, BY FAR.

Seriously, by the end I was like... HOLY SHIT THIS AWESOMNESS I HAVE JUST UNCOVERED. And instantly imputed a 10/10, however, I will have to lower that to a 9/10 now that the unbelievable awesomness has settled down in me. Fujino and Shiki are so going into my semi-favorite characters list.

Animation= 10/10
Story= 10/10
Voice Acting=10/10
Music=8/10 (I have to admit... I never noticed any background music as I was totally into the story, so since I didn't capture anything, its either because I was totally into the story or the music simply wasn't good enough for it to divert me from the story. So 8/10 here).
Enjoyment=9/10 (Although the 2nd half was a definite 10/10, the first half was a 8.5)

So overall I have to give an 9/10. I cannot wait for the next movie. Will probably re-watch this one sometime to re-live the awesomness.

It may seem sick whan ppl say things like that are awesome but u cant blame the movie for that. It was the only way they could have started the movie becouse they wanted to stick to the original material and it was necessary to explain Fujino's mental state.

Awesome and stunning movie! The story was so powerful, and the quality and animation are amazing. The rest was amazing as always. It has strong details as it doesn’t have any bad point about the movie at all. It kept me hooked throughout the entire movie. I felt that the audio is somewhat weak because I hardly hear the sound from my headphone. The music is good enough, at least. The OST is the best one for sure.
