Hey, this thread has 2 purposes. First, I want to know what is your top most bloody, violent and/or fanservice (as in ecchi, more specifically towards a male audience) anime of all times.

Second and more importantly, I want to know why people like those kind of anime, and what role do they play in society. Is there a demand for more violent/bloody anime all the time, and if so why? What about fanservice? Where do people draw the line?

I need to present this to my RL club in a few weeks. I have my own ideas, but it seems insufficient, so I'm asking you people about your take on this.

EDIT: crap wrong section. mods can you move this?

are you only talking about ecchi type anime? or all bloody anime? I personally hate when ppl edit out blood in scenes its quite annoying.

for the ecchi type anime i would guess those ppl are secretly/openly into s/d or masochists? I mean maybe it just stays as a fantasy or maybe they are really into all of that?

It can be only ecchi, only bloody or both.

S/M huh... great point :D

oh Japan. It reminds me of sundome but more bloody. People and their fantasies ... (we're all guilty :3)

By the way, since we're on the topic, what do you think about violence in anime and violence in real life?

Higurashi is an interesting murder mystery show, and it has fanservice.
As for why there's a demand for bloody shows, it's because people are fascinated by it, find it interesting.Just like how there always becomes a crowd of onlookers at crime scenes, tabloids and newspapers earn money on having headlines of murders, and lots of the tv shows are crime series that revolves around solving murders. It's all the same. As for fanservice, that's just what it says. Fulfilling fans fantasies of sterotypes or certain types of people.

Bloody, gory and violent anime are very easy to name, I like to watch these mostly. Both Higurashi and Umineko are very graphic about the kills, and have some fanservice. While the fanservice is almost unexistant in Higurashi, there also isn't any brains oozing out of a shattered skull, stomach-piercing punches and such things, so you could say Umineko has a lot more of fanservice and a bit more of gore.

Another is a very bloody anime, the deaths are just flawlessly animated, I love how they aren't afraid of showing how actual deaths would be. You can see in many animes people getting "instantly killed" by having their throats slit open, and such, but in Another they show how painful, bloody and slow such a death is. It has no fanservice so far.

Hellsing and Hellsing Ultimate are absolutely gory. Elfen Lied has fanservice and a whole lot of gore. Claymore and Berserk are about people and monsters sliced apart by giant swords, so they're very bloody as well.

Now, why these animes are liked... I can't say much about fanservice/ecchi as I hate it, and I guess that people that like it are just... "Common" people, as from what I've seen I'm weird for not liking it at all. Now for gory, disturbing, bloody scenes, and such things... It's just because it's pretty much eye candy, and also "means business". It shows for me that the anime is serious, not meant to be childish or anything like that. Of course, I'm talking about blood in fights, deaths, and such. Nosebleeds and silly stuff don't count at all.

The blood pretty much defines how serious an anime is for me or not. Of course I'm not expecting to see it in comedies and such, but it's essential in many other genres.

Im going to have to say Elfin lied. It is defiantly bloody and violent and it does include fanservice in it. So it has something for everyone in it.

Edit. Sorry i didn't read the why part.

The reason why there is fanservice in anime is obviously to appeal to people that like to see girls naked (assuming were talking about that fanservice) and as for the blood and violence well there are just people that wouldn't watch anything that is not mature rated. Take it from me long before i got into anime i had that mentality that anything that doesn't have blood and violence and guns sucks. And because of that my taste in video games use to consist entirely of First Person Shooters and Grand Theft Auto and i wouldent even touch a movie that was under PG 13

Elfen Lied. That should be obvious by now ;P

Highschool of the Dead is another good one. It doesn't have as much nudity, but it has a ton of actual fanservice. And, as always, gore is prevalent.

Fanservice in anime = appealing to people who like seeing naked people. As far as seeing blood and gore, I think it's because since we don't want to see something like that in real life, but we're still kind of curious to see it, watching stuff in movies/tv is awesome =D

So far Motto To LOVE-Ru is the anime with the most fan service I've ever seen. As if the series is stimulating the viewers into that direction, if you know what I mean.
I learned the term "ecchi" since reading Love Hina and I set the line based on that level. Motto To LOVE-Ru is waaaaaay above my standard.

Ninja Resurrection is one of the goriest I've seen. The tech might be archaic but it is still pretty intense stuff. As I recall, it also had some raping going on.

Now did I like it? Yes and no. I liked how it layed out a setting for a really brutal action story. Famous historical names, religion and gruesome swordplay combined. Too bad it was incomplete.
