Hmm.....

Well.....

That was a little unexpected. Though it's pretty clear that none of the key characters (Zero, Shirube, Itakura, Suezaki) will have died. Not Yuuki either, since he was with Zero. Maybe Hiroshi, but we'll see.

I'm still totally in shock. Did not see that coming.

What we've seen translated so far is the whole of what exists. Zero's been put on hold by Fukumoto in favor of Kaiji part 4.

That's pretty much all there is. One chapter of part 1 (which corresponds to season 1), 8 chapters from part 2 (which will be season 2), and .5 chapters of part 3.

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFU-

I wouldn't find it that bad if people were actually scanlating the Kaiji manga, I hope Hox picks it up.

Whoa. Did NOT see that coming. Nice way to go on a hiatus, with this massive (almost literally) cliffhanger.

Haha, if Akagi was there at the very end, he'd do find. He tends to be quite skilled at flying off cliffs in a car.
My current anime list is grossly, out of date, just so you know.

I've only just noticed on MAL that this has become 70/70, has it been confirmed that there will be no more chapters being released for this series anywhere?

I just finished this a few seconds ago.

Overall, this series was pretty fun... I somehow don't get a good vibe from it though. It is a bit ridiculous at parts, and it's kind of hard to take seriously. The pacing is too fast, which makes it less suspenseful. The "reveals" from Zero just aren't as cool as those of other Fukumoto characters. His thought processes are often pretty mathematical, which is ok, but harder to follow and just less cool than, say, Kaiji ripping off his ear.

Honestly, this is probably my least favorite of Fukumoto's manga, although there's still a few I have yet to read. Even so, I'm just being really nit-picky here. This was definitely a good read. (That goes without saying, Fukumoto is brilliant)

And wow, this is an unexpected turn of events. I'm definitely going to follow the second series.

Gotou has been set up quite intimidatingly, saying he would do the same thing as Zero, figuring out the radio trick, he's a rival to Zero's intelligence from the very beginning. I was anticipating him to be the final battle in deciding the representative, Tonegawa-esque. But his more logical approach is clearly necessary when faced with the most chaotic of the evil old man trope we've seen in Fukumoto. Well, I can't compare with Washizu just yet. Still, our man started to judge the worth of human beings like he was introduced by tossing the coins, and here he drove his "sons" off a cliff to test them. What a cool guy. "PEE!!!!"

And with this part 1 ends. I definitely find it a strange end. We have a short junior room gamble, although the build up with the persuasion and guts was part of it, and now a sudden twist ending. I assume it's to grip our attention into reading the next part, lacking a true sense of closure, but the most I can say is that it feels strange.

As for my overall thoughts, unlike something like Gin to Kin where I feel passionate and disappointed, here it's quite neutral. I don't feel a desire to type that much. Although there were good peaks, I didn't think it appealed to me that strongly. It felt like I was watching a television show with a child and enjoying the scenes with the boys I could relate with more like Itakura and Suezaki. I respect Zero for what it was and thought it was cool, just didn't feel overly interested or attached.

Damn they really ended the series on this cliffhanger?! well overall it was really great to read, it's kaiji but in a shounen way which is still efficient even though it's not at the same level, but the ideas for the games are really interesting as expected from Fukumoto
9/10, now I'm a little worried about part 2
