Since I'm new to the stuff, I'm just curious what got you all into it? And how long have you been reading comics? [not manga]

I started a few months back, my friend recommended the series The Walking Dead... or maybe Watchmen... I started TWD first though and that's got me hooked. I guess I just never really thought of comics as being anything else other than superheroes and the like. It's certainly nice to see this other side.

The first comic I ever read was a batman comic I got for free with Nintendo Power issue. What got me really hooked was when I wanted to read some Batman graphic novels a year later or so and I got Batman: The Killing Joke and The Dark Knight Returns. After that I got all the Batman comics I could from my library and started getting some other stuff as well.

I read The Dark Knight Returns my last year in high school and hated it. It almost put me off comics for good. Then I took out Watchmen for the school's library and loved. After which I purchased Batman: The Killing Joke and was firmly hooked on comics.

I started with European comics as I am from Quebec. So Astérix & Obélix, Thorgal, Tintin and a lot more.
American comics are very hard to find for me... But worry not! I still can order some via amazon

The comic that started me collecting was Uncanny X-Men #242. I collected books (mostly X-men or Spider-man) before dropping and then picking up again to seriously collect when the DC Zero Hour event started. I then collected for several years before stopping several years ago.

I just moved which caused me to re-order my collection, couple that with the release of the Watchmen movie (which forced me to finally read the graphic novel) and that got me collecting again.

I'm mainly a Batman, Spider-man, X-men fan, so I'm trying to catch up with all of them during my long time away. I just started with the Batman: No Man's Land storyline. The goal is to read the major events from DC from that point till now. On the Marvel side, I'll have to pick up from Operation:Zero Tolerance as well as the entire Marvel Ultimate line.

My first series was Green Lantern, during the late 90's. (1997 or so.) That would put my start in comics at roughly 12 years ago.

I don't remember exactly what my first series was because it was when I was 5 or 6 years old! XD It was something from the early or mid-eighties, like Batman, Batman and the Outsiders, Legion of Super-Heroes, Superboy...There's a lot of possibilities because my mother's old collection is richly varied.

I didn't read comics, besides those old ones once and awhile, much after that. We didn't have a comic book store anywhere near here. It wasn't until until about 8, 9 years ago when I discovered the DC Comics message boards, that I began to read them again so seriously. I had been watching the Batman animated series and the Batman movies and joined in on the discussions on those. Through a long and drawn out series of events, I discovered the new Batgirl, Cassandra Cain, and got back into reading comic books... Though it is mostly illegally because I download them as I'm a poor student and there's still no comic shop near here!

Right now all I can be bothered to read are the couple I'm buying: Doktor Sleepless and Ignition City.

My first was actually the first run of the first wave of the CrossGen stuff. which would put me at around 1998, but that would be my first collected series, the first comic I ever read was probably Todd mcFarlane's spiderman which I read with a friend of mine and we stole his brothers copies. Which would put me at like 4 or 5 years old

From Hell by Alan Moore about a year ago or so and I loved it. It was a pretty odd choice since I didn't find the movie adaptations of V For Vendetta or Watchmen all that good.

When I was like 10ish or something, I was in a supermarket with my family and picked up one of the old Dark Horse Star Wars comics, I believe it was the 1st issue of a 6 part series about Mara Jade, The Emperor's Hand and also the later wife to Luke Skywalker. I bought it and must have read it like 30 times before the 2nd issue in the series was released. That was my first time and I've stuck with comics ever since.

Also I feel it's worth mentioning that shortly thereafter I picked up the original Astro City graphic novel. I didn't understand much of it at the time I read it, besides there were a bunch of superheroes kicking ass and taking names, but I do remember I enjoyed it. I finally managed to pick up a copy and reread it, absolutely amazing.

X-Men.

My friend's dad had the entire collection from 1960 till now.
When I was 8 we would sneak into his office while he was out and read his comics. We probably reduced the value of his comics by a lot because I remember eating chips and getting oily fingerprints on his stuff.

They moved when I was 14. I don't know if he ever figured out we were reading his comics. He never mentioned it anyway.

I started reading comic books when I was 5 years old. I think my first series was "The Batman Adventures" from DC Comics. My Dad was the main source for my comic book addiction back in those days. I stuck to mostly mainstream comics (Marvel and DC) until recently when I discovered Mouse Guard.

I'm the most recent of us,I started with Incredible Hercules, before I didn't even knew Hercules was a Marvel character.OK I must have seen him before as a part of Thor cartoon but I didn't remembered about him.I always like using mythology in comics and manga, like the first anime that hooked me on was Saint Seiya back in '95 that is heavy on mythological part.

I started that series first than other cause, they said it was more funny and had good stories, wich is true.I liked so much the parts where Herc disguises as Thor to convince a Dark Elf Princess to not invade Asgard, and Kid Zeus was responsible for half the awesomeness of that part. His new ongoing series is also good, but it's still soon to say if it's better or worse.

My favorite comic over all is Ramayan 3392 AD,I loved how they remake the Hindu Religious epic in a sci-fi take without losing the supernatural part.I wanted to see the Hindu Gods of Marvel and DC be well used like that, and looking more like this version is also good.

Though it's in Japanese, I don't know if it counts as a "manga," since it is a large-print colored comic that doesn't share the common appearances of a manga. It's a Dino Crisis comic, and it was a really fun read for a dino-fan such as my preadolescent self.

If that one's counted as a manga, however, then my first non-Japanese comic read would probably be a Spider-Man comic book, since his comic is the only one I ever followed. But for how long, you ask? Well, I didn't start any serious reading till I was 15 or older, so I'd say for only an accumulative couple of years altogether. I had an on-and-off relationship with the comic series till a few months ago, but ever since then, I've been following very closely with the web-head, and have finally reached his '90s capers.

It was either Johnny the Homicidal Maniac or Hell Boy about a year ago. Ever since then I have been hooked. xD I actually haven't been able to read a non-comic book for a few months.
