THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.

Just finished this OVA.
The plot was very interesting, as well as the incest theme.
But I didn't like the art, they re-used the same scenes too many times, probably they didn't have enough money.
Well, 6/10 for me.

I did not see any incest. Anyway, it's became obvious that was a low budget production. That said, it was an interesting and unusual story, very sad as well.

Very nice watch. While the story may had many serious faults but the show nailed the psychological elements and more over I really really dig the show's slow pacing, gothic atmosphere/minimalistic animation that so much gave me similar vibes of Boogiepop.

What a headcase chizuna is. Unable to see everyone around her cares. She decides to confine herself in the house to die next to her brother.. edge lady.
I think i have diff values and i think it's more positive to share a disgrace that take it to the grave, anyways. 1/10 i disapprove it.

I just finished it and it's one of the worst anime I've ever watched. I hate incest!!

Clearly made with limited manpower that managed to make it serviceable while cramming 7 whole volumes in 4 episodes

They absolutely nailed the atmosphere and tone needed to animated shit like this despite the limited budget (I wish modern anime would take notes rather than just making pure slop). It clearly would've been better this was full fledged show rather than an OVA.

@Ronninn I agree, the tone and atmosphere were great. The pacing was abysmal, however. It just seemed to circle and repeat itself over and over.

It was really melodramatic after a certain point. If the withdrawal spasms are this bad, how did these people ever get old enough to have kids? Even if the onset were late, you think they'd all end up attempting familicide like the mother. If they can only be soothed by the blood of those they love, how would they ever get significant others anyway.

I really did not understand their resistance to drinking each other's blood, especially Chizuna. After episode 2, I was expecting them to start regularly blood swapping and fall into addiction or something. With modern medicine just hook each other up to IVs every morning and drink a small amount every so many hours or during an attack. I originally assumed that's what the blood was anyway. I feel bad for Minase and Yaegashi, and it was pretty dumb for them to reject their blood. Always with the "Where the Red Fern Grows" method too. 'I never loved you, doggo! Get out of here!'

The thing I really couldn't get past was just how horrible this family dynamic was. Holy shit. So your 6 year old daughter accidentally (somehow) kills your wife with a pair of shears in self-defense, while your wife was attempting to drink kill and drink her blood (instead of just going to you; you regularly let her drink yours). Then she starts manifesting the same symptoms. None of you paid any sort of real attention to your son anyway, so you just dropped him off at your brother's house and left. You never contacted him again or told him anything about why you left, despite knowing he'd eventually have the same disease. Instead you fed your daughter your blood until she was a teenager and then killed yourself, leaving her to your assistant who's in love with her (and your brother). Your brother and sister-in-law never talk about your family or your disease, and don't even mention you have a sister until she moves back in town. Then your son contracts the disease, refuses to really tell anyone about it, and starts shacking up with his sister, who is dying (as he is also dying).

All they ever learned to do was run away and isolate from their problems because everyone will eventually leave or die anyway. It's just like fumbled at every step in every way possible to the extent I don't really understand why no one did anything to prevent any of this from happening. Like keep family secrets or whatever, just write letters or call or visit sometimes. Maybe have contingency plans to spread the blood burden around, or use some of that doctor knowledge to come up with a better solution than painkillers.

5/10. I was hoping for a little more sibling bonding, if you know what I mean. I appreciated the edginess, but the premise could have been much much stronger. And the characters could have easily talked to each other more.

P.S. It felt like the soundtrack had 1 sad/eerie song that they used CONSTANTLY.
