Wansa-kun, because nobody has watched it.
Runner ups are Noein and Queen Millennia (TV), maybe.

I changed my mind, actually. Queen Millennia (TV) is #1.

All my favorite ones, but as far as the most underrated in terms of never hearing a single word of positive acknowledgment or passing reference even in series-specific online spaces including series-specific discussion sub-forums and threads on MAL, relative to and measured against its quality, probably something like Zettai Shounen's.

Add any Iyashikei and you will have a good soundtrack.

MOKUSHI KUSHIMO SHIMOKU KUMOSHI MOSHIKU SHIKUMO.

It's tough to say, because I see so few conversations about soundtracks in general (outside of the famous ones with legendary status).

I'll just post the anime soundtrack I listened to way more than I've heard anything about. Maybe it's super-famous, I don't know:

Wolf Children, by Masakatsu Takagi

From a TV anime, something more recent:
Honey Lemon Soda, by Akira Kosemura

«Flower of Evil»

My collection of thousands of albums consists mostly of used items; I scarcely buy new CDs or digital downloads.
This is the only disc I pre-ordered before its release.
Immediately after watching the anime, I decided, “If I don't get this now, it will become hard to find later, and I'll definitely regret it.”

The content is primarily immersive improvisation created with modular synthesizers—a type of sound that's hard to call songs.
An inescapable pressure, like persistent tinnitus, slowly drifts through it, evoking a vicarious experience of the protagonist's introspective world.
It could be classified as ambient or chillout. I'd place a label ‘obscure music’ on it. Anyway, it's not music you'd listen to for enjoyment.
However, it's perfect to take with you when you wake up in the middle of the night and inexplicably feel like going for a walk in the darkness and quietness.
It's not the best one, and you'll never pick it up, but I guarantee it's the only one of the masterpieces.

The artist is credited as an unit ‘Denshi Kaimen’(lit. Electronic Sea Surface), but this is an alias for FUKASAWA Hideyuki, known for providing memorable music for numerous major titles (who is handling «Gnosia» this season).

Yu-Gi-Oh 5Ds had some amazing OST back in the day, like holy shit! Guess people in the West just watched the dub that strips it away and forgot about it.

Rewatching Sailor Moon and realizing the soundtracks are legit legend and underrated, things I never paid attention to when watching as a child

𝑇𝐼𝑃𝑆 𝐼𝑁 𝐺𝐼𝑁𝑇𝐴𝑀𝐴
- NOT your usual shounen anime
- Pure comedy? DEAD WRONG
- Treat Gintama as SoL/weekly sitcom especially earlier seasons
- Ep 1 & 2 are for manga readers
- BIG patience for its 'slow' start

I remembered, Natsu no Arashi has an incredible soundtrack. It has a lot of 80's Japanese pop (albeit most of them are covers), there are some great bangers.

Probably not that underrated since I see a lot of people with Gungrave and Trigun on their list, but holy, do I almost never hear abot Tsuneo Imahori great work in both Trigun(& badlands rumble), Gungrave, and Hajime no ippo. I just barely hear any people talking about those soundtracks and the artist. And, one of my favorite songs of all time would be gungrave's ending theme (Akane iro-Ga Moeru Toki) by SCOOBIE DO. Great Stuff.

Again, probably not underrated in here but they're still my favorite OSTs from all time. I used to listen to them on repeat for so long. :,>

The entire anime is carried by the music, since with the exception of the OP it has no animation.

Maybe not super underrated, but I really enjoyed Kaiba's OST. OP and ED, Tree Song, Melody of Chroniko... A lot of well composed emotional pieces.

+1 to .hack//sign and Lucky Star's soundtracks. Although, maybe they're more 'unpopular' nowadays rather than actually underrated?

I feel like I've seen many 'decent' or 'alright' anime that had amazing soundtracks at the back. For example, both seasons of Faraway Paladin have a pretty great JRPG+Western RPG blended soundtrack for a LOTR-inspired movie which stood out during weaker parts of the show's animation.

Log Horizon's soundtrack has to be fairly high up there. For an anime about an MMORPG with slice of life, action, and political elements, I think its soundtrack perfectly encapsulate its vibe.

The score for Monster, composed by Kuniaki Haishima
Some of you never watched Bakugan Battle Brawlers on TeleToon in 2008 and it shows.

Magical Fairy Persia has a pretty awesome soundtrack, though the anime itself is pretty underrated so I guess it would only make sense that the OST would be as well. 🤔

idk about underrated because I think they mostly have good reputations, but some of my alltime favorites are Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, Ping Pong, Made in Abyss and Bubblegum Crisis.
I probably regret this post by now.

@TransferUser Couldn't agree more. First thing that came to mind because it's one of my all time favorite soundtracks. The music is so good in this anime and unique. A ton of vocal tracks which more shows need to use and it's like the turned up the volume in the mixing for the soundtrack and I love it.

I honestly have no clue what's soundtracks get a lot of attention so no clue if these would be considered underrated, but I'll just add Inu Yasha, Rurouni Kenshin, Berserk (those three probably have good reputations?) and Paranoia Agent.
