Do you ever clean out your online footprints?

So recently I deleted all my 3 X/Twitter accounts and the Google accounts behind them. I was thinking rather than leaving my accounts unused I should go Cyber Dragoon on that slop.

So my reason is partially posting a lot of nsfw stuff, but I realized the lack of interaction even when my posts go viral. It is very asocial where most people just do engagement farming with 0 interaction. Beyond that 1 was suspended from a few months ago.

Any accounts you deleted? What was the reason?

I don't remember ever doing that. None of the accounts I use to share text is associated with my real life identity anyway.

I just realized I put this in anime discussion. I think the mods will fix it so thanks in advanced.

I always assume the isp is tracked via accounts so I deleted mine. I never associate accounts with my personal info though.

Nah, I don't. I don't think it is that bad either way, at least compared to a lot of people online.

Why is all this concern to you? If you don't post or react to illegal/morally illegal things what can happen to you? If you come from countries with a particular situation it's a different story...

I stopped caring about that awhile ago. The government is always watching you anyways if they want to.

Rules evolve overtime. While my country might not outlaw stuff like hentai now, that does not secure you in the future where the rules may change. Just like how Nintendo hit a reddit mod for hosting a forum about switch piracy. Beyond that, who knows how employers might obtain social media data before hiring.

I deleted my ankiweb account and switched to self hosting a sync server a while ago. It's best not to trust random 3rd parties with my entire anki collection.

Nah, people nowadays are less interested in social media; the best solution is to just ditch the accounts you don't need and move on.

They used to go there to check what they want to buy, what's popular, the latest trends, etc.

…but, as of late, people are simply not interested in buying shit so often; the turbo-capitalist economy failed (not to mention all social media are flooded with auto-bots, scam-bots, and fucking ads).

If the government is interested in digging and sorting through all that shit, let them be; those bureaucrats are experienced in doing useless shit on a daily basis.

I have a number of email accounts, I may get rid of some to simplify. Too many passwords to remember and keep up logging into.

Deleting it doesnt really get rid of anything. Even if it becomes gone from servers and backup servers often some data has already been sold off elsewhere so you have to go after data brokers to prevent more of that but what has already been sold is already unreachable in many cases.

Two issues with that. One password managers are security risks because they can be hacked, it increases your attack surface. Other issue is if you rent typing in your passwords you are even more likely to forget them so if there is data corruption or you just have the computer crash and burn if you didnt do enough backups you are screwed. The best password manager is pen and paper since more likely a cyberbreech than a home break-in, plus you can write it in a simple replacement alphabet in a really small writing or something which most people these days would not even notice or be able to crack how to read it. Also memory isnt the issue just how most email services delete your stuff if you dont log in ever py few months.

You can delete, deactivate, anonymize but digital footprint remain. Metadata, cached pages, backups, surveillance logs. Like bacteria on your skin, they’re microscopic, persistent, invisible and never go away no matter how hard you scrub. You think of data as sterile, mechanical. But it’s organic like bacteria, It clings, mutates, spreads.

The only way your password manager is going to get hacked is if your computer is already infected. In that case the attacker will just take your browser cookies or keylog you and get access to your accounts. I don't remember my passwords in the first place. Just have automatic backups, the database is encrypted so it should be fine.

You can directly access computers without any malware sometimes depending on what kind of vulnerabilities exist at any given moment for your system. Keylogging is old news, these days AI can tell your keystrokes by the sound your keyboard makes or reproduce images on screen through the sounds the monitor makes or if a home has a smart meter they can potentially analyze tiny power fluctuations, so a vulnerable device does not even have to be the computer but your phone or someone else's or the home itself. I mean you can do what you want but i am explaining why I dont like using password managers. Yes encryption is there in storage but even then.
https://thehackernews.com/2025/08/dom-based-extension-clickjacking.html

It is a mixed bag it has pros and cons. Main pro is you can make insanely long very complex secure passwords reducing risk of brute forcing attacks and reduce risks of data breeches.

You cant hack a piece of paper is the point. Youd only need to worry if you had someone physically access your home. I dont generally write passwords just saying some people do and it ironically works out for many so i mentioned it as an option.

That's not likely (on an open source OS) but if it was the case it wouldn't be used on random people. Also if that's the case then I don't see how not using a password manager will help anything.

This sounds like insane paranoia. Do you think the glowies are after you? Is it time to switch to TempleOS? Same thing above applies too. If that's the case then I don't see how not using a password manager will help anything.

As for the clickjacking, that's more of a problem with webshit than password managers in general. Someone using KeePassXC or Pass wont have any issues like that.

Yes not used on random people intentionally but malware might unintentionally when meant for larger targets so youd have to have a good setup of security features since Linux and BSD based stuff are used on servers which will be targets.

I just am saying it has been done and since it is done by machine an individual does not inherently need targeted, though it likely cost more than it is worth to do that on mass scale

Twitter, I stopped really using it when it got monetized by Elon, killing discussion on that site. I am pretty close to killing my reddit too, mainly just cause I realize I just hate most of it's userbase. MAL, Goodreads (which I don't really use much for SM) and Discord are going to be my only social media going forward.

No. I have so few accounts anyways as I just use one account on all platforms I use. I could delete Steam or Discord as I almost never use them but they still serve a small purpose so no need to delete them.

I basically don't use accounts simply for posting nonsense, everything has a real function

Recently I deleted my Twitter, Insta, Mastadon and Bluesky accounts.

Alas, I kept youtube, cuz you really need that site. Unfortunately, I'm doom-scrolling that hell site too!

And as you can see I'm very weak-willed and can't quit social media entirely.

But I've returned to the beginning and started posting on traditional message boards again.

Lesser of all the evils IMO.

Cheers.
