How do you rate the 3D of the monsters?

1 for appalling and 5 for average, because I refuse to believe that there is anyone who actually thinks that the 3D of the monsters deserves a rating higher than average, that's because I'm being modest because this was one of the worst 3D I've ever seen in an anime, be it 3D of monsters or anything else, it also reminded me of the 3D of Isekai Kaminaki Sekai no Kamisama Katsudou (I think that's the name)

Do you remember any other anime with horrible 3D when you remember this one? I'm actually making a list of the worst 3D in anime, it can be entirely 3D or 2D or both, like in the case of Hazure Skill.

I've already compiled some 3D anime lists but I'm trying to make it as complete as possible.

I feel like these are very biased poll choices.

@Chalc_ The objective is to evaluate the low quality of 3D nothing more than that

Honestly I thought everything was ugly here. Be it the monsters, the characters or the environments.

Anime was fun for the edgy trip.

I think they are horrible too but no point having a bias poll, kind of defeats the purpose of even having one

Agreed. If they put this poll on Dorohedoro they'd probably get shit on.

Didn’t ‘Overlord’ have an awkward, random 3D dance scene? ‘I’m a Spider, So What?’ would randomly switch to 3D during fight scenes (I know why they do it from a budget, time, etc point of view). If I remember correctly, ‘Black Summoner’ had one character that was 3D basically 24/7 when nothing else was in 3D.

I don’t mind 3D, and actually liked the story for this one itself. You get used to it when the entire episode is 3D like ‘Duke of Death and his Maid’. I hate shows where it’s 2D and randomly switches in and out of 3D. The only time where the switching didn’t bother me so much during a scene was the dance scene in ‘Tearmoon Empire’.

I’d actually have to try to think in order to remember other bad or okay 3D moments in a primarily 2D anime.

Even so, that doesn't mean you can just tell me that 3D is a masterpiece, it's 100% average to below, I don't want everyone to agree with me on anything, if you tell me that X anime is the best in the world I will just respect your opinion

@Chalc_ @Todday I think Dorohedoro's 3D is very good and so is Ghost in the Shell 2045, There should be more anime with the same level of 3D as these two.

@Truck-kunArrives I also think the same, I don't know if you thought I hate 3D in anime, but I've actually watched a ton of full 3D or partially 3D anime (Ex-Arm twice) including Donghua those Chinese anime so I have no problem with that, on the contrary, I'm making a list of all of them!

I hope you know I didn't mean to come across as rude. Sorry about that, brother.

Also, I do agree that Failure Frame's 3d is pretty shitty for what the standard should be, but I still thoroughly enjoyed it, definitely in my top 10 shitty Isekai, but I also don't think it was horrible.

Dorohedoro is also probably the best 3d anime we've ever gotten and will get. Beastars was alright, I guess.

Modeling/sculpting — fine.
Level of detail — fine.
Rigging/deformations — fine.
Motion — too smooth, would like it to be more choppy.
Frame rate — not synced up with the 2D animation frame rate.

Like that. I think it’s pretty common to have this set of issues with 3D rigged characters in anime. I thought the last one could be fixed by just dropping the frame rate when animating in Maya, but then you don’t have enough frames to block out the motion. If you animate it in 24 FPS and then posterize, you sometimes get inbetweens instead of key poses.

Yeah the monster CGI was beyond bad, as all the CGI in this anime was some of the worst I've seen. They pretty much switched between 2D and 3D every other shot and it was always jarring every time it happened. It's like if anything was even remotely challenging to animate in 2D, they'd say "Fuck it. We're animating this shot with CGI"

Just bad.

The 3DCG in this was just straight ass, but I really liked the story & characters. Pleasantly surprised & worth enduring whatever the opposite of eye candy is, imo.

The monsters looked like they were made from chocolate and fresh out of the mold. Shiny and slick. Made me hungry!
When making your list, remember to put Girls Band Cry right up there at the top, not difficult considering it’s probably one of the best anime period.

The cgi itself wasn’t even bad though, they just did a bad job at blending it with the 2d and overused it for the human characters. Though if I recall, that kinda stopped being as much of an issue in the second half. But the models were good and they did an ok job at animating them. Above average, as far as anime cgi goes.

Some 2d shows I can think of with worse cgi would be Overlord, Arifureta, Shield Hero, Blue Lock, Demon King Academy, Kingdom, The Demon Sword Master, and pretty much any anime done by studio A-Cat. And I’m sure there’s plenty others that I’m not remembering.

And for fully 3d shows, Ex-Arm blows all the competition out of the water. Berserk 2016 and Seven Deadly Sins: Grudge of Edinburgh are pretty awful as well from what I’ve seen and heard.

@FutoiOtaku I think so too, and even Girls Band Cry was one of the first ones I added to the list, it was one of the best 3D I've ever seen and is even superior to other anime that don't have 3D in the animation.

Arifureta season one was worse, but yeah, you can see the budget in this one, too.

That one's actually a gold mine if you want bad CGI. The monsters they did in 3D arguably had no textures and were basically static models being moved around.

Nah, you’re good, I didn’t assume you hated it at all. I only said what I did at the end because I know most people hate 3D (i.e. it was meant as a general comment, not to anyone in specific). From what I’ve seen, many won’t even give a show all in 3D a shot because it’s too jarring. Imo, it’s just something people have to get used to and then it doesn’t bother you like it does initially.

@Truck-kunArrives I think so too, and this also applies to getting used to watching old anime, especially those from the 70s, 80s and 90s, as many people also complain about the quality of the period animation.
