| Considering we got to see a bit of Lilly’s school life this episode, I was kind of hoping to see her interact with her classmates more, especially with the whole cross-cultural angle. But hey, I’ll take her bonding with Renji’s sister too… what a coincidence lol. Anyways, a date next episode?? Already??? I'm shocked but excited to see what our boy Renji here pulls out, to say the least. |

| Ok somehow I missed the massive age gap in the first episode(I think most people did), can’t ship these two sadly. She’s in middle school and he’s college age y’all. Like it’s not even one of them close gaps. I wish they’d have made her in college like the MC. Just a really weird set up from the author. That and the engrish segments make this hard to watch.. fluffy aesthetic, but some uncomfortable details. S/O to Renji’s sister Aoi though for being a great friend and wingman. She’s helping her settle in and trying to support Lily’s crush, but yea.. that SHOULD be a losing battle. |

| Oh, I must apologize! My comment on the first episode was far too dry! The show is actually quite lovely, and honestly, I thought it would just be a repetitive arcade-centered plot, but it expanded wonderfully! I really enjoyed the second episode! Though it still feels a bit odd hearing English being spoken in an anime—I’m really curious how they’ll handle the dubbing for this. Will Lily speak in Japanese while Renji speaks English? Or what? And as for *the* most iconic word that every living anime fan knows—**"BAKA!"** It was absolutely adorable when Lily said it to Renji... *"Renji Baka!"* Looking forward to next week’s episode! |

When you cute waifu shows up in her cutest dress, and with a bow on it, and a new hairstyle, that call for a minimum of three compliments, at least one general and two specific. | Yet another show's discussion is going to be blighted by the anime age gap police. Nothing out of the ordinary, I guess. The episode was cute. One thing that bothers me is the inconsistencies in Lily's Japanese level. She can hold a conversation with her mom just fine, but in every other scene, she speaks English and has Japanese subtitles. I also don't get how she can go to school with Japanese natives who don't know English, there's no point if she can't understand the teachers at all. Though her note that she wrote with the sparkling pen had three em dashes, which makes me assume it was written by AI. To be fair, these are things that I should just ignore. And when I do, the anime is genuinely fun to watch, Lily's mom seems cool, and Aoi was pretty entertaining too, with some funny facial expressions. Can't wait for her to find out that Renji is the guy Lily is in love with. |

| @Kenrin A couple times throughout the episode I felt like they were intentionally making them "speak Japanese" when they should've been speaking English instead when it was just the 2 of them so Japanese viewers could understand what they said. Probably more the fault of a localization thing than the fault of the "consistency" with the show's writing. |

| @Marinate1016 Renji didn't even mean it as a date, besides what's wrong with them just being friends? The dating can be done when she's older so it's no problem. Besides, this is a fictional show, there's loads of people that watch Mushoku Tensei and think there's no problem with that show, and it's easily 100x worse than this as the MC is a actual pedo. This show isn't grooming in any way, shape, or form, even if they go on a date, Renji isn't grooming, the INTENT is what matters. |

| @Marinate1016 I wasn't bragging about it, I was just pointing out how even something incredibly gross like MT gets a pass from lots people given it's 8/10 rating on MAL. This show is incredibly wholesome and innocent with literally 0 "gross" or creep pedo things in it, MT has loads of outright adult and pedo scenes animated. I simply don't consider this to be a problem because it doesn't make the age gap a problem and I used the comparison to MT because it's a prime example of a problem. If you disagree and don't like this show that's fine, but it's simply a fact that this show does not have, pedo, grooming, or heck it's not even weird in most places in the world. If you find it weird or gross that's your opinion and you are free to have it, but it's a fact that it's not "grooming" or pedo like you stated. |

| i was hoping the English would be a bit more consistent like everyone else is saying here, especially since they have one native English speaking seiyuu and one fluent English speaking seiyuu buit i guess that's probably just for convenience sake. still i like the Aoi and i like the Lily, both are enjoyable creatures and i love the direction so far. |

My deal is what is up with the in inconsistency with the Japanese and English? I mean like does Lily understand Japanese enough but doesn't feel confident speaking it? But at home with her mum, she understood almost if not all of what she said that evening after she ran away from the game centre....Then there's the mum who who flips and flops between speaking English and Japanese when its clear she pretty much native (or at least I think) in both Japanese and English. Its throwing me off so hard during these scenes I just have to laugh at how awkward it must be for the Japanese characters who are trying to interact with Lily and her mom. Its mainly Lily really, like speaks almost fully Japanese at home, at school? Game centre? Back to MAINLY English in that British accent lol |

Lily's mom likely moved for a job probably either because she knows Japanese or she had been learning it before hand for a transfer. Lily is only learning it, you saw her mom teach her some Japanese this episode. You also saw in the journal in last scene she wrote entirely in hiragana which is something only little children and non native speakers who dont know any kanji do. It's easier to understand Japanese than it is to speak it since the words dont really just come to you. There is not really much inconsistency there. I can understand more I hear in anime than id ever dare trying to say. | Seems like they decided to make Lily speak fluent Japanese in scenes when there are no Japanese people present to make it easier to understand for the viewers As an English/Japanese bilingual my headcanon is that she is more comfortable speaking Japanese at home compared to at school / outside lol |
