I really liked this one, there were no big spooks or ghosts but it had a good unsettling vibe from the start, also very good art, and I thought the twist to this one with the wish having the opposite effect was clever. Now I live in the countryside, so I don’t relate a ton to these “city kid moves into backwoods town” type horror stories, but I do understand why it’s scary and I’d say this one did a good job portraying it in the short time it had.

And damn those kids were evil lol, not sure if they intentionally lied about how the wish works or if it was the work of whatever deity is enshrined there, but that poor kid ain’t ever going back to his old school, his creepy expression at the end was a good spine tingling way to end the episode.

The kid ended up enjoying what he had instead of being sad that he couldn't get what he wanted. That's a solid life philosophy: trust me. Granted, the way it happened was creepy. I wonder if the other kids knew that their desires got released. If they forgot what they wished for, how do they know they made the wish at all? Does that old lady live in the cave? That's weird.

Cat Report 9: Cherry was trying to get my attention as I was drying my hair. She wants me to go to bed.

I really enjoyed the build-up for this episode and the twist of the shrine being for giving up on your wishes was great. I'd be lying if I said the ending wasn't at least a bit disappointing to me, though. I think if it ended with the kid making that creepy face in response to his parents instead, it would've hit better.

I can't even count this episode as horror. They should have at least made the wish something that matters in the slightest. All he did was lose the desire to return to his old school. Such sacrifices can't even be fathomed. Needless to say, I did not like this episode.

It seems like the kids might not have fully understood the consequences of their wishes. They likely didn’t realize that making the wish would have an opposite or even detrimental effect. Not sure if they didn't write their wishes in the first place or it could be the fact that their wishes disappeared from the stones.

As for the last part, when Naoya gets all creepy, it feels like a shift in his perception...and starts seeing the kids as "bugs". It’s almost as if he no longer views them as important or even human. His cold, unsettling demeanor indicates that he’s growing detached and sees them as insignificant, something to be discarded or erased. His new mindset could mean that he’s gearing up to make a wish to get rid of them altogether—turning his own desires into a destructive force against the kids.

@DollFishu Really good point actually. I didn't think at first about anything than the kid lost his sanity a little bit lol because of how sad losing hope of getting back was for him. But he maybe really have in mind some type of revenge now

Time to make a wish to be a penniless bum.

I dunno, besides tricking him into it, if that was intentional, making the best of his new life isn't exactly the worst outcome. Even with the deranged look on his face at the end it's still just a kid upset about having to move. Maybe if the other kids were more malevolent and there was bullying or something going on. Maybe if they were actively seeking to make him stay forever. Could also have done a different wish like, maybe they had to move to the country for health reasons of one of them and he wished to get better. Just feels like there's a lot of better angles they could have taken to up the horror level.

Looking at it this way makes it spookier at least.

@towelgirl21 I am also a little confused. by the way she was talking she seemed to be a normal old lady. maybe the kids truly didn't know about desire release. Hope the kid can be truly happy with his new life.
