The animation quality was beyond beautiful in Evangelion 1,2,3 but CG ruined the last one. Also, they heavily altered the main story which made me unsatisfied :(

For me, I really enjoyed the movie and the Rebuild of Evangelion series. The only one that was disappointing for me, and a film that lacked any kind of logic, was the third one. I couldn’t help but give it an embarrassingly low score, and on top of that, the film didn’t meet my expectations. However, I’m grateful for the final movie. It managed to turn things around for me, meeting my expectations and consoling my feelings of sadness.

That’s not the only reason, though—the movie was stunning in terms of cinematography, sound, and story. It had a continuation that I truly appreciated, and I liked it so much that I even cried at the end. Honestly, it’s a masterpiece.

Now, I’m not judging; maybe you didn’t like it for your own reasons, just like I didn’t like the third movie of the Rebuild series.

It’s an alternate version of Neon Genesis Evangelion, of course the story is going to be altered. It’s not the same as the series.

This film is sadly a clusterfuck. Terrible generic cgi army (one of the worst trends of modern action movies), too many last minute mcguffins and technobabble, but worst of all is the fact that theres so many dropped storylines and character assassinations

The relationship with Shinji and Asuka is developed for 2 and a half movies and it just doesn't go anywhere. Especially if you've seen the supplementary short films, if youve seen 3.0-120min, there's a huge emphasis on how much Asuka cares about Shinji. Its the reason why Asuka ends up leading the mission to retrieve Shinji, it's the reason why Asuka decides to wear the old plugsuit now in tatters bc it's from back when Shinji was still with her. There doesnt need to be a wedding scene at the end but like what was the point of all this if there is zero payoff.

In the original, Rei's character arc culminates with her emancipation in betraying Gendo and leaving the fate of the world in Shinji's hands, proving she is not a puppet. In Rebuild, she is stated to be programmed to like Shinji and gravitate towards him. Theres so many more examples of character assassinations but this is the most egregious one.

The original ending is about rejecting escapism and embracing both the good and the bad of living in the real world. Shinji faces his demons and makes this conscious decision. It's implied that everyone else faces instrumentality in a similar way and is allowed to choose whether they want to come back to the real world.

In the ending of 3+1, Shinji just goes outerversal godmode and completely fabricates the perfect world that he wants to live in, completely reversing the message of the original.

Genuinely how does anyone view this as a better ending. It takes a complete lack of critical thinking to accept this as a good or better ending.

doesn't matter how complex the script writers or director make the story to be but evangelion story has always been pretty shit. personally the appeal to me is the relationships of each character and their dialogues but mostly it's all just angels go brrr shoot aliens horny etc

What? It's difficult not to understand that is another cycle of the story, like the exit from a loophole? You don't have to watch it as a remake, it's a sequel from the original course.

If it's that giant Lilith's head in 3D you're referring to it's just supposed to look like that because it come from another dimension and that's actually a good representation imo.

I hardly find "it looks bad because it's supposed to look bad" to be a convincing argument.

This film broadly has an issue of the copium defense relying on logic along the lines of it serving some sort of meta narrative that goes beyond the plot.

3+1 was Shinji moving past his trauma and the escapism of the show. Evangelion has always been an analogy for Anno’s own personal journey and this was him moving on. Shinji didn’t make the world he wanted he just decided to live his life finally without his trauma (Evas) which had him trapped in a toxic cycle.
