As you can see, you are looking at a thread about anime that is NOT marketed to Japanese audiences. It is exclusively aired on Toonami and Max. Is there any reason why this series is whitelisted from the same exact rule that keeps Scott Pilgrim's anime away from being in the database?

@baymaxemon Not really sure, SPTO was released both in JP & EN dubs but that's not relevant. Even if it is, Ninja Kamui also released in both language

edit: if you're asking about Dandadan well of course, it's literally a japanese manga

Ok but most of the production is American. I‘m not gatekeeping you know. I wouldn’t mind Scott Pilgrim being on here. But I can see some difference by just looking on both wikipedia articles.

I only followed the discussion a bit, from what I witnessed is that Japanese person(s) must have the decisive power over the project in order to be considered Anime here.
Apparently this wasn't the case with Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, but is probably the case with Ninja Kamui.

I can see what you guys mean, the writer and producers were indeed from outside of Japan. However, the animation, sound, art, photography direction, and chara design, are all handled by Japanese staff (see Anilist) which cover almost all aspect of the end product.

And if that's still the case, then Edgerunner shouldn't be on MAL too since the IP literally belongs to CDPR.

Because the studio E&H Production is located in Nakano, Tokyo.
The director Park, Seong-Hu (who also directed JJK s1) and the animation team that worked on this are Japanese

maybe it's not about where the original content is but in which language is the original audio imo

Mark Millar does Marvel comics and Leinel Yu made Super Crooks with him. He's from the Philippines.

@Treyv0n @Merve2Love please quote a post where someone saying they want Ninja Kamui gone from MAL. All I ask is why Ninja Kamui is allowed but SPTO isn't. MAL guidelines are inconsistent.

Just because you don’t follow what‘s going on, in the forums, doesn‘t mean we don‘t recognize this stuff, you know^^

Couple of weeks ago everybody was outraged that it maybe wouldn‘t be on MaL. Now it IS on here and we get Threads like yours.
That‘s all we‘re saying.

Whether you said something or not is irrelevant ^^ That‘s not the point. You‘re against it.

@Merve2Love Well YOU are assuming I'm against it. That's your problem. I am grateful that they put it on MAL. That aside, I do follow what's going on in the forum, I literally put one of the threads in my post talking about the attempt.

MAL is so damn weird with international coproductions. I think someone at the top of the company just flips a coin to decide whether or not one belongs in the database.
Barely catching my breath!

So I carry the torch! To Inferno! Inferno!

@Merve2Love Bro you being an @$$ for absolutely no reason, and being hypocritical at the same time! Your telling others to drop it and stop complaining while you regurgitate the SAME emotional complaint AND refuse to listen and learn something lol! 🤣 🧐

He shared his position respectfully and asked others for additional insight and answers. That's the RIGHT method when learning and trying to better understand something. Just an FYI 😤😉🧐😁

Scott Pilgrim And Ninja Kamui are animated by Japanese studios and directed by people who worked in the anime industry for years.

I always find it humoring that the people always asking why or why not a non anime show is or isn’t on MAL barely watches anime to begin with. It’s like you guys want to bridge the gap between western media and eastern media so you can add every cartoon you’ve watched. I’ll give you an answer though. Adding Ninja Kamui isn’t that big of a deal, adding something like Scott Pilgrim would open a huge can of worms and make more trouble for admins than it’s worth. Hope that helps.

@TheHoodSenpai sounds more like "I am entitled and don't want any EUGH WESTERN CARTOONS on my holy Japanese cartoon website" but could be just me.
Also all "Scott Pilgrim is not anime" arguments are completely idiotic because 1) it's made in Japan by Japanese animators, deal with it already, 2) MAL has entries that are much more "problematic" and "questionable" than SP, so it's exactly double standards at work, 3) it was discussed TO DEATH already.

There's literally zero problem with adding more stuff to the site except five or so elitistic idiots will whine about it.
Btw I've seen more than enough anime so your argument kinda falls falt on the face. Less than you did, but manga is much superior anyway ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
