A series that goes pretty much the way you think it will upon first glance; complete with some of the old-fashioned ideals from another era.
Happy ending but kind of somber in a way and you can actually see how the art improved compared to the flashbacks we saw here.

At it's core I liked it but i'm kind of needlessly bitter at how much the conniving little shit and his irritating cat had a say and sway in the relationships/story here. The episodes with less Hashizou were the marginally better ones not that there were many but take ep 41 for example.

We saw some character growth with the characters here, Yakko's father finally coming around.
Yakko herself was on the bland side for me, just your standard good-natured 80's shoujo lead.
I personally prefer Maeko, it's a shame that she was a side character.
Gou... I actually liked Gou not only does he have rad hair but he was mature and level-headed all the way throughout. Male leads like this are a dying breed in most romantic shoujo now. At least the ones i've come across anyway.

Have to thank the translator (and all the other translators who work on these series) for showing old-school anime some love in this age of simulcasting.

There we go... that's the last episode. Fuck... I loved this anime so much. We didn't get to see the two get properly married, but still, I'm very much happy with this ending. 9/10
