He means the OVAs. There is no second TV series, though the OVAs and special do amount to 11 eps when combined.

that was kind of a silly anime when u think about it but still I kinda wish there would b some more. The characters were well developped and were able to capture viewers' emphathy.

I've now seen the second season, and found it to be better than the first, as well as answering a lot of open questions from the first season.

Yes, I meant the OVAs. There's an extra inter-season OVA and then six episodes of the second "season" plus two final episodes.

Hey, I expected an archetypal boobs-in-space animu (well, that was the impression I got from bits of info and images flying around), and instead all I get is a pretty well-made and enjoyable sci-fi adventure? You can't trust anyone nowadays...

Here I thought Studio Fantasia was obsessed with nothing more than pantsu... (Welll.... this show does have a bit of it but compared to their other stuff it actually had a nice plot going for it nice character development and what not) It was pretty good

yeah it was pretty good; I can't believe it's been 4 years since I've watched this already.

I think I watched this about three or four years ago and I still get feels thinking about it.

I also credit the music. Masamichi Amano did a great job with this, and Melocure's songs just frame the series so brilliantly -- especially that ending theme, "so far so near", which is one of the best songs I've ever heard.

Pretty much this.
I know it has been already said, but I'll just repeat it my own words. I really didn't expect much, but it was surprisingly well made anime with solid plot, good pace, it magnificently combined serious notes with a little comedy and slice of life. It isn't best anime out there, but it doesn't have any blatant flaws, either (except for the basic idea of choosing schoolgirls to protect the Earth for no real reason, but if you ignore the absurdness of this premise, it's a pretty interesting story). Oh, and the attention paid to the technical part deserves a special commendation
Also I think I mixed up synopsis with Starship Operators, so I was expecting the most of the action to take place in space...

I finally got what the number means in the title - number of the girls

That mystery and revelation about aliens was unexpected. Also, most of the heroines are my type, especially Shizuha. Underrated show indeed. 7/10

On a rewatch, I've come to think I actually wasn't giving Stratos 4 enough credit for what a stellar anime it is, and considering I already had high praise for it on the first watch, that's saying something. Most of the characters were likeable, as were their respective interactions with each other; and the remote island setting was depicted in quite a charming, cozy way. This series knew when to hype things up and raise the stakes with the reveal of the alien virus, using it to bolster the existing premise by neatly forshadowing it and tying it into the plot, rather than radically altering the premise at the last minute (which not every anime can achieve). Even the humour had very natural, unintrusive structuring that always delivered thanks to the competently written dialogue and scene direction, meaning I found it to be one of the most consistently funny anime I've seen.

This is one of those series that does everything you'd expect it to, but with such a charismatic keeness to it that even the less action-packed scenes have a lively slant to them, which does wonders for its entertainment value.

Underrated does appear in my mind when thinking of this, it's got that early 2000's feel that I guess I was looking for something like that when picking this, the animation was surprisingly good, the inspiration on real life aircraft was well done and the interaction on the characters was on point (Hakos-san you made this even more true).
Would watch again, but now to the OVAs.
