I am not sure how to shorten "I'm a high school boy and a successful light novelaAuthor, but I'm being strangled by a female classmate who's a voice actress and is younger than me" but I assume the Japanese do this to discuss it casually.

Will it get an anime?

WIZARD.

Neutrally speaking I would say we should go by whichever words are written in the largest font on the cover. Smaller-font words can be ignored when making a short form.

男子高校生で売れっ子ライトノベル作家をしているけれど、年下のクラスメイトで声優の女の子に首を絞められている

Presentation arrangement seems to vary between https://cdn.myanimelist.net/images/manga/2/111603l.jpg and https://cdn.myanimelist.net/images/manga/3/207968l.jpg though

How do you break down according to these 2 presentations? Can't see very well nw.

Usually, shortening a long title (read: more than 6 syllables) in Japanese is about taking the first 2 syllables (although, it could be about taking up to 3 moras from the beginning of the title) from the beginning of the title, and the last 2 syllables (or up to 3 moras) that are not grammatical inflections from the end of the title.

In this case, the full title is 男子高校生で売れっ子ライトノベル作家をしているけれど、年下のクラスメイトで声優の女の子に首を絞められている。(Danshi Kōkōsei de Urekko Light Novel Sakka o Shiteiru Keredo, Toshishita no Classmate de Seiyū no Onnanoko ni Kubi o Shimerareteiru.)

So, first 2 syllables from the beginning: 男子 (Danshi)
And the last 2 non-inflection syllables from the end: so instead of ている (teiru), it is 絞め (Shime)

Hence, 男子絞め / DanshiShime (or "Boys Strangle", if you will :) )

Contrast this title with ダンジョンに出会いを求めるのは間違っているだろうか (Danjon ni Deai o Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darō ka)

The first moras from the beginning (ダン; Dan - 2 moras), and the last non-inflectional 2 syllables/up to 3 moras (間違; Machi - 2 moras) = ダン間違 / DanMachi.

Hope my explanation helped.
