| I understand that they tried to focus on Marry, but the artstyle and colouring is horrible in comparison to the original one. I didn't like the directing, but at least it stayed true to the source material. The contrast can be weird at times, and the animation can be inconsistent too. |

| It was fine I guess. Don't really like the look compared to the original for the most part, and losing Mother Sea during Merry's funeral made the final goodbye a lot less sad. Obviously the recap was not going to replace the original, but even when just comparing the high points that were the focus here, I think the original anime version is mostly better. Still, for a recap of two pretty long arcs (plus additional Merry stuff), it was rather competent in condensing the arc down for the runtime. I kinda wish they shaved off more time from Lucci vs. Luffy as I got pretty bored during that part, but otherwise cool. The base story here is really good, so there was still good stuff in here, particularly the Luffy/Usopp stuff. There are some other nitpicks I have, some of the stuff covered doesn't really make sense for a Merry focused recap (like Merry wasn't even there for Sanji's Baratie goodbye), and it was weirdly horny but in contrast, I do like the added ending with Merry's Klabautermann was a nice wrap off, and I kinda like that G-8 was briefly shown. 6/10. |
