The crew's so big that watching them all fight is like a hitting the "scan" button on a radio. The Luffy vs. Hordy fight in this episode felt quite wrong, but I couldn't really place it. If everything vegard_aune said is true, then that explains why it felt so messed up/ |

Trying to replicate Luffy's desperate struggle against genuinely powerful enemies like Lucci or Crocodile utterly contradicts everything this fight was meant to represent. Also Luffy's goal was not to defeat Hody anyway, it was destroying the Noah. That's what's supposed to be the climax of this arc) and aside from Brook and Franky, the other Straw Hats' new techniques were completely underwhelming, and in the case of Usopp and Chopper, it didn't even look like they defeated their enemies as much as just knocked them back a little. Man totally agree with you. They fucked up the anime pretty badly. They made Luffy so damn weak compare to the manga, and they even made Luffy reuse the Red Hawk again, which decrease its epicness. Usopp's impact wolf has no impact at all, it just knocked over the enemy, the same with Sanji's hell's memories and Jimbei's attack, Zoro doesn't even have the epicness anymore.. Franky's and Brook's technique was animated decently at best.. LMAO I am so gonna take a break from the anime.. fed up and saddened, feels like they don't even put any effort into it anymore.. |

Oh dear. This stupidly prolonged arc seems like it's finally coming to an end. Thoughts on ep: Luffy having a hard time beating Hody? and taking around 5 eps to do it? WHAT THE HELL? Can the Anime get anymore stupid than this??! 2/5! Let the stupid arc end already! |

It was nice to see the crew's new fighting techniques. And Luffy's Elephant Gatling was pretty awesome. I also liked how in the past few episodes, Hody grabs lots of energy steroids out of no where, seriously where does he get them from? XD |

The anime only made Hody stronger. It didn't make Luffy weaker in any way. You guys are complaining just for the sake of complaining. Plus, the Red Hawk in this episode was much better than the one in the previous episode. At least I think so. |

Yeah, I honestly really enjoyed this arc, and I thought the anime adaption was pretty good... until this episode. I still liked half the episode, but they ruined Luffy and Hody's final moment. It annoys me how weak it made Luffy seem. |

This hole nonesense should have been over 12 episodes ago. All of these powerups reminded me of dragon ball. It was also ridiculous how many pills Hody had stashed on himself. |

Hulk Chopper acting like Chopper was super cute to watch :3 Loved Sanji and Zoro as usual, Brook was funny, Robin's and Nami's reactions to Franky's light beam were perfect and I also like how Usopp always compliments everyone without jealousy... Everyone got an easy win, so I am guessing this whole arc is kind of warm up...? The truth is since I don't read the manga (so I can't compare them) Fishman Island isn't one of my favourite arcs. But usually when an arc like this comes the next ones are super epic, so I am not complaining :) |

And that concludes the fights. I'm underwhelmed with this arc. They prolonged it too much. Though I didn't read the manga, I noticed that the Luffy-Hody fight was done badly in which they seemed made Hody looks strong that Luffy's having a hard time on him (though he shouldn't). It's like the 2 years of training looks wasted. And I don't now if this is manga or anime thing but Usopp's fighting style seems to be changing, making him Pop Green-dependent. While Pop Greens are good addition to him by supplementing his lack of team presence and crowd-controlling and supporting skills, his sniping skills shouldn't be abandoned because his role is "SNIPER". So yeah. Hopefully, the next arc will be impressive. |

I've gotta say that I'm still disappointed with Zoro's fights (except from the one with the swordsman from Wano country). They could have atleast shown Zoro dashing/flying like when Rayleigh kicked Kizaru or efforts to show how he throws those skills like Hiryuu and Kaen. Most improvement I liked was from Sanji. That sky walk looks so useful and his attacks are new, same with the other SH mostly Brook and Robin while the some shown upgraded techniques like Tatsumaki, 108 Pound Hou and Onigiri. :p |

Breaking this into two halves. As soon as I realized the first half of the episode was setting up a one shot montage I was getting so excited. It did that so well, a great montage of all the Straw Hats showing just how far they've come with their new techniques and new strength and new confidence. Wrapping up every fight like the jokes they were, the only person mildly pushed was Luffy. Even then, it was definitely mild, he was bitten a few times and hit with some sharks. He's been through far, far worse. Through doing that we learned that Chopper can control monster Chopper form for three minutes making sure that we know he's not absolutely overpowered now and giving him even more room to grow, something I was worried about when we saw he already mastered controlling his monster form. I loved seeing big Chopper show amazement over Franky's laser beam and be embarrassed, "CREEPY!!!". As mentioned with Franky he got out of the mech to use his ultimate technique, "RADICAL BEAM!", and it certainly was radical. Firing a giant laser beam from in between his hand symbol like a true anime character. I can't get over the fact that Nami and Robin don't find him utterly cool sometimes, get over yourselves girls! The mech was goofy but that was straight up a Kizaru move!!! Usopp showed off his trap, humandrakes, a way to keep Daruma in the air, and an Impact Wolf with an almost haki attack sending a shockwave through Daruma, super cool. Chopper literally smacked Dosun with his palm to take him out of commission, certainly to show his strength and show how far he's come to master his monster form. Wadatsumi was promptly finished off with some badass Sanji lines and some team work, Jimbei launching him and Sanji using an Okama-esque attack vaguely like Bon Clays "Memoirs of that Summer Day" igniting himself in flames due to his training rage and burning Wadatsumi. Brook walked through Zeo's chain humming like in the original Thriller Bark and sliced through him with ice... Then of course we have two more, Zoro destroying Hyouzou like he was Frieza and dropping a literal Mihawk line, MIHAWK CALLED ZORO A SMALL FROG IN THEIR FIRST BATTLE AND HE DROPPED THAT LINE ON HYOUZOU?! Is this foreshadowing Hyouzou will grow strong and fight Zoro once more... lol!! Then Luffy's incredible double elephant gatling, the second he inflated his second arm my jaw dropped and I couldn't stop laughing at how awesome it was for him to pummel Hordy into mush. I think the second half of this episode was indicative of one of the two major purposes of this arc. One, was to further explore fishman-human relations and the Sun Pirates, things we've wondered about for a long time now. We got to see Hachi develop into someone who would literally fight for humans, we got to understand just who Arlong was, and we further got to understand Jimbei and see the life of Fisher Tiger. We got to understand Otohime and we got to understand why fishmen are the way they are, what they've been through, and what, as a people, they are striving for. Hordy even fits into this as the trickle down prejudice that got into the new generations central beliefs as did he represent another way Arlong inspired the people of the fishman district. In that way, it was my favorite world building arc. I think it did that amazingly, I was fascinated the entire time for everything regarding this. The other half as implied was to show off the new strengths of the Straw Hats in a setting where they don't really have any issues but have a big sandbox to show off everything they can do. Sanji's moonwalking and hell memories, Zoro's new strength and that twister he did, Robin's clones against Hammond, Choppers new forms and monster form control, Usopp's new confidence and new mastery over green stars, Nami's insane crowd control and ability to handle herself in a fight, Luffy's double elephant guns and red hawk, Franky's mech and radical beam and tank and motorcycle, Brook's soul releasing ability and everything regarding that like his ability to bring the land of the dead through his attacks. And lots more I'm probably forgetting! It had characters I love be a focus of the world building I've been so interested in, one of my favorite flashbacks with the Sun Pirates and the amazingly nuanced and believable Fisher Tiger from how little he had screen time. It was able to blow me away with how awesome everyone is now, how far they've come mentally and physically. However, I must admit there is a weak part to this arc and it's not my nitpick about Otohime's backstory dragging. It's the villains. Don't get me wrong now, I find Zeo's nobility and inability to accept looking dumb hysterical. I think Daruma is childishly great and his "happy snack time" bit did wonders for him. I think Hyouzou is sadistic and disgusting in an impactful way. I think Ikaros has a quirky backstory and a cool weapon. I think Dosun is kinda boring as a big meathead but if I understood his puns maybe I'd like him more. I think Wadatsumi is adorable and his inflating ability is funny. I think Decken is great for the themes about dreams being diluted and warped and lost to time, both Decken's dream and Hordy's dream came from generations before them and what was left was not even close to the same thing. And I think Hordy had a great introduction, conceptually how he came up and changed Arlong's ideology which was already an altered version of Fisher Tiger's was epic. I thought how clearly hollow his ideals were and how hypocritical he is was super enjoyable as time went on. The fact HE was the one that had to push himself to keep up with Luffy and not the other way around was wonderful and the water/air advantage both were fighting for was fun although perhaps underutilized. But in the end none of the villains resonated with me. In fact, I'd go so far to say the villains are clearly the worst part of this arc. If we were to separate it into Straw Hats development and sandbox to show off / World building / and Villains, villains would easily be the weak link in my eyes. They are too extreme, their whole self awareness over fighting for nothing but still calling it a grudge and revenge, while also saying stuff like "DIE AND LET YOUR HATE SEEP INTO YOUR ALLIES, THE GRUDGE LASTS FOREVER!" came off as far too much. That extremity paired with the extremity of Hordy being willing to die and overdose for such a shallow substanceless hatred felt unreal to me. I don't know but if Hordy perhaps showed intense prejudice as he was grown up into which was done great, but then didn't have such a conviction to die a hero and instead actually showed cowardice and wasn't so bold about fighting, perhaps he ran away, perhaps he'd use more backhanded tactics when physically fighting, if he wasn't so extremely driven yet still did everything he could to kill the impure fishman and humans then maybe I'd like him more. If that was the case and if his allies and him didn't preach such edgy lines about dying and having hatred start a grudge as that felt too on the nose for me, and maybe if he had more than three damn lines I'd have actually resonated with him. I can't count the amount of times he mocked people for being "impure fishmen", or "inferior humans". The amount of times he said his power was heaven granted and unstoppable. Or the amount of times he said "humans can't win under water!!!". I swear that was all he could manage to say sometimes, repeating the lines numerous times per dang episode. At least he got some wonderful content out of Fukuboshi. Like I said though, I like Hordy and the New Fishman Pirates, I really do. Just, none of them made me that interested. They had some light appreciation and chuckling from me, but the main thing I liked was them losing to the super cool Straw Hats. They just got too much screen time for my taste since I didn't end up caring about any of them as people very much at all. Keep in mind I HATED Buggy at first and now he's one of my favorite characters of all time. And I really didn't like Galdino and now he's in my top 10 One Piece characters so these characters are due to change in my mind I'm sure. |

Just one serving of Elephant Gum is strong enough to down a mythical sea beast so Elephant Gatling looked absolutely devastating. If Hordy didn't end up downing a whole crate of those drugs, he probably would've died in the first few punches so he was lucky enough to be able to do that beforehand. Everyone finished those officers off with their finisher moves with absolute confidence. It was a bit too one-sided but that's exactly the point. They're not even in the New World yet so it'd be a bit insulting to their hard work if they really struggled against what were essentially entry-level enemies for them. Noah's the final boss kek |

episode it was nice that they were able to show us the new techniques theyve got but cmon,, y r they acting as if hody is some powerful guy? "as u are now, ure no match for me" "ure weak and u dont know ur place" BRO A SECOND AGO U WERE GETTING BEATED TO A PULP BY LUFFY'S MINIMAL ATTACKS!,, aaaah istead of showing us how powerful theyve become it's kinda giving me the opposite :,D they couldve made the noah itself the biggest problem in the arc instead of defeating hody or some sht bcc idk broooo . even if he took like a gazillion drugs, luffy's power level is above above- this is the problem with alot of animes ngl,, it;s like if u think about parring these villains up with crocodile, lucci, moria for example (somoene luffy has already beaten) u'd think nah he dont even stand a chance... but here hody is fighting with luffy and goddamn they look like theyre somewehere near level wise ;-; arc i really loved how this arc basically connects everything and shows the problem in the one piece world. the back stories i kinda enjoyed and it reminds me of how Dragon said on the gray terminal "this is teh example of how the whole world will become" and it really is true (as shown on this arc) which is kinda cool |

Like how they were able to proper pace out and even finish all the fights with the officiers showing upgraded fighting techniques. Only one that feels held back though is Zoro. So far we haven't really seen anything truely new. He's just clearly gotten stronger to the point where he's able to be back to the carefree fighter he was in earlier arcs of One Piece. We have yet to see him need to get serious and use something truely new. So much for having to keep the Noah undamaged. And given that Luffy said they should let him do things his way, he'll be smashing that thing to pieces. Just hope Neptune won't drag too much on that fact and value the island being saved over an over-sized hunk of wood they knew pretty much nothing about. Now after all of this are they finally going to remember mud-man, who's been awol all this time? |

Glad they finally one the fights. Luffy- definitely has improved. Hordy got some hits in, but never felt he was in serious danger like every other arc fight (with the exception of East blue and Skypeia). Iron hands, 3rd gear deadly combo Brock- low key been the third best straw hat this arc behind Zoro and Luffy. Very smooth there Usopp- Nice trickery. He definitely the perfect rouge archer type. Chopper- tbh kind of don’t like how he has control now. Anytime he got to the big version it was terrifying. Now it’s just meh. Franky- I feel like he barely used his powers. Still always love how chopper, Usopp and Luffy love his powers. But Nami and Robin are never impressed Sanji- His flying ability still might be the coolest new thing. Zoro- Complete bad ass as always with killer line “you might not be a frog but you crocked” or something like that. |
