How to make your social-media algorithms send you posts about the seasonal anime you're watching?

This might sound like a bit of a weird question, but it's something I've been thinking about for months. Earlier this year I complained that didn't have anyone to talk about anime with, so people recommended me to start watching seasonals, since "everyone watches and talks about those", so I started watching 10, 20 seasonals per season and... that wasn't true at all.

With the exception of Gundam GQuuuuuuX, that really delivered me what I was expecting, most anime I watched didn't result in even 5 posts about them being shown for in my social media feeds, and most of them didn't even have a single post about them at all...

How do you usually do it?

Why am I not surprised that you're asking how to make an AI feed you stuff instead of actually looking for communities or PM-ing people who share your interests? Or participating in this community?

This is not "Anime Discussion." This is purely personal and has nothing to offer anyone else.

Don't bother. Algorithms are not designed to help you find stuff based on your interests, but to keep you on the website for as long as possible. YouTube and Xitter are especially bad about this.

@MelodyOfMemory
I looked for communities, but I didn't find them.

I don't bother, because for some weird reason that I cannot for the life figure out why my X feed is full of nothing but Hentai. Hope you can get the feed you desire.

what poor rhetoric, following communities and messaging people who may have the same interests as you is certainly stimulating and fun, but having a feed that brings you news about the anime you're following also allows you to discover the so-called communities. Furthermore, the algorithm can also bring you news that you would otherwise have to find manually in some forum built in HTML and with graphics and UX stuck in 2006. Not everyone has all this free time...

Not all seasonal anime have the same media resonance and very often, outside of the official channels, no one talks about them. Let's remember that those who create content on social media also do so for personal gain, making videos on an unknown work makes little sense.

However, the best way to change your algorithm is to interact with posts that deal with that specific topic. That's it.

@ForgotEyeWasHere Those two goal do in fact correlate though.

I haven't used socials for like 8 years and I don't follow seasonals. If I did, I'd just follow tags for those shows and interact with the people posting with them, or something like that.

Dumb question, but have you considered checking In the tags? Perhaps even... Putting things into the tags?

When I get obsessed with something, I dig through as many of the relevant tags on Tumblr and Twitter for Fanart and interesting Analysis posts. Reblog/Retweet those cool things. Follow people who make a lot of fanart/analysis posts. If Inspiration strikes, put out my own fanart/analysis/theories/reactions, and then the other fans can respond or reblog/retweet in turn. Ba da bing, You got a stew going. On Twitter, after a binge or two the Algorithem figures out what I like and starts delivering it (mostly).

Now, for actual discussion/friend making, sending dms or replies are the way to go. Just liking fanart doesn't spawn friends to talk to. Tell them what you liked about how they drew (character). Tell them what you thought was interesting/ "Ghkrfghdruukhgkdrh" about their theory or Headcanon. Livetweet/liveblog your thoughts through the episode. If you want to actively participate in community, you... have to actively participate lmao.

Also, quickly adding a little to what Duado said about to media resonance: It also hits different demographics differently, and different demographics use different social media. It might not get a lot of popularity on Twitter, but may be a huge hit on Tumblr, or Reddit, or etc.

@JaniSIr Works in some ways,yes. But it's not great compared to talking to other people who share some interests. It's very much a substitute.

@JaniSIr I believe that's part of the algorithm. I regularly get those. It's just part of how it keeps the algorithm moving.

@valico The point is that nobody would recommend that song to me, on account of practically nobody else having listened to it.

@JaniSIr Was it a good song that you actually enjoyed? All the ones I get are usually junk, so from what I can tell it's more like a first pass for the algorithm at that stage.

I assume you can train the algorithm for that like you would for anything else. Like a bunch of posts that have what your interested in and follow the accounts that make posts like that.

@valico Yes. I mean not everything it recommends is good, but eventually even your favourite artist will release a mediocre or even bad song and there is no way to account for that without sci-fi technology, so you can't expect it to be perfect...

I know what RSS feeds are, but I never used any.
The closest thing being that one software I use uses those to get me torrents of stuff I''m watching.

@JaniSIr not saying it should be perfect, but in my experience those unseen recommendations are more of a "broken clock is right twice a day" situation than a working recommendation algorithm. it's just randomly selected from a pool of new content with tags that match your algorithm. An "I'm feeling lucky" kind of recommendation. it's a valuable part of the algorithm, but not worth specifically pointing out imo.

when compared to someone who actually knows your taste and shares it, you're much more likely to come away with consistently worthwhile recommendations. youtube's algorithm is going to lean more into quantity over quality to serve you an occasional hit among a sea of misses.

you could get the same kind of unseen releases by sorting any genre tag by Latest Releases on Bandcamp and choosing any album at random.

Just go into a tag for whatever anime you're watching and like and retweet stuff. Even posting some stuff about it will help, even if it's just a text post or a screenshot and your reaction to the part will work.

I'm not sure, but isn't reddit a good place for that? There's a sub reddit for everything, so if you look far enough, I think you'll find what you're looking for eventually.

Surprised anyone's using twitter to look for a proper community instead of hentai or porn.

@valico I don't have stats for it, but it's right often enough, so skill issue I guess? Idk.
I like plenty of obscure music, it's a wonder that I had actually came across someone knowing some of them without me needing to show it to them first.

@Yuu_Kanzaki
r/anime isn't very good.
It has a similar issue to MAL: Too strict in it's forms.

Compare it to, say, a Discord server or /a/: You can just start talking about anything at anytime out of nowhere, and just as quickly can go to the next. A few months ago I talked about an /a/ thread on Nanoha where people were posting ecchi official StrikerS art while me and some guys were discussing how to rewrite StrikerS and what caused the problems with the franchise.

Here on MAL there are things you can't discuss, you have to have a subject in mind while making a thread, and that thread can't steer away from it, etc.
I want less "bureaucracy" and more... natural talk.

@valico
Regarding Discord servers: I don't know many of them.
Regarding /a/: I do go there from time to time, but this doesn't solve the problem that it is "me going to the content" rather than "the content going to me".

Years ago, it was common for me to know which anime was releasing that day because I would see droves of posts about the new episode on Facebook, get spoiled a little.
This doesn't happen anymore, it just happened with GQuuuuuuX.

This seems like a benefit, not a problem
