The 12th and final episode of the Jidou Hanbaiki ni Umarekawatta Ore wa Meikyuu wo Samayou 2nd Season (Reborn as a Vending Machine, I Now Wander the Dungeon Season 2) television anime announced a third anime season on Wednesday.

Produced by Studio Gokumi and AXsiZ, the first anime season aired in 12 episodes in Summer 2023. The second season premiered on July 2 and ended on September 17. Crunchyroll simulcasts the anime with subtitles and dubs in multiple languages.

The anime adapts Hiru Kuma's comedy fantasy light novel, which began on the Shousetsuka ni Narou website in March 2016. Kadokawa began publishing the light novel with illustrations by Itsuwa Katou under its Sneaker Bunko imprint in August of that year. Kadokawa released the fourth volume on July 1.

Kunieda began drawing a manga adaptation in Dengeki Daioh last August. Kadokawa released the second volume in March 2023.

Yen Press licensed both light novels and manga in English. The third and final volume of the light novel was released in December 2018. The manga's second volume shipped in March 2024.

Synopsis
A man with a passion for vending machines awakens to realize that he has not only died, but he has also been reborn as one of his beloved machines! Although he is a modern appliance in a fantasy world, he requires money in order to keep functioning. He is stuck in one location until a young girl named Lammis stumbles upon him. Amazed by the drinks and food he sells, Lammis uses her "Blessing of Might" to lift him with ease and take him back to the village of Clearflow Lake. There, she officially dubs him Boxxo.

Despite his inability to converse with the villagers, Boxxo becomes an essential part of the community. His goods provide nourishment, and, as he gains new abilities and products, he becomes a staple of daily life. Nobody is as loyal to Boxxo as his first and best customer, Lammis. The more time he spends with her, the more he tries to help her elevate her skills as a young hunter. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

Meanwhile, Seraph of the End is yet to get a 3rd season when season 2 aired almost 10 years ago and the manga is still ongoing today, and Magi, Nisekoi and Noragami never got a 3rd season. Oh, and New Game anime sold 5.7k blu rays/dvds in its first week (which is good numbers as it sold more than 3k), but still never got a 3rd season despite being successful/profitable. So even good blu ray sales doesn't guarantee more than 2 seasons. It just feels random whether something gets more than 2 seasons or stays an incomplete adaptation forever.

So are most isekai and reincarnation anime just guaranteed more seasons or something, even the ones that are mediocre or bad? Or is this anime just extremely profitable for whatever reason? EDIT: Okay, just checked reddit, and someone mentioned that volume 1 of the first season sold 3k blu ray copies in its first week. Maybe that's why it's getting a third season. I think blu ray sales still matter for niche shows like this and will determine if a show gets more seasons or not. Dr Stone and Fire Force probably got more seasons because they're mainstream, despite being late-night anime and having poor blu-ray sales.

@wildhood Because the synopsis of these anime doesn't sound like a trashy parody of typical anime genres. But seriously, just because a good show doesn't get a sequel doesn't mean the producers are evil sadists who don't want good anime to get more attention.

Shall we start blaming Japanese audience for having nonexistent standards?

@Elior21 Just a few? Most isekai blockbusters are either officially or explicitly moving toward full adaptations. For example, the creators of Shield Hero and Mushoku Tensai have already expressed their desire to fully adapt them as a passion project.

@Elior21 It all depends on the popularity of the title as an anime and the producers' desire to develop it. Sometimes a show is very popular, but the producers decide that for some reason they don't need the anime anymore.

Great for the fans. I haven't watched any of this series, so I can't really comment on it directly. Curious what fans of the source think of the adaptation?

I also haven't started watching Summer series yet but there are quite a few that have caught my eye... I'll be surprised if they get sequels.

Looking at the studio producing this, there's nothing recent that I'd want them to produce a sequel to. Though I wish Oda Nobuna no Yabou would have seen this level of treatment a long time ago... it wasn't the best but I enjoyed it (10 points!).

Most my most wanted sequels that aired in the last couple years are from Fall 2024. Regardless, I rarely expect my liked shows to see sequels. The money just isn't there unfortunately.

the little isekai that could. At this rate we're on schedule to get Apple Isekai in 2027 4 seasons, 1 ONA mini movie and then 2 theatrical extravaganzas.
