"Ground Control to major Yachiyo. Your circuits dead, is something wrong?"

I feel certain our hotel manager will return. But it will be interesting to see how they pull it off.

This episode just gave a good reason to drop this series. I know it is a gag/comedy series but it was bloody obvious they shouldn't care what the brat's nagging about.

That ending is terrifying to me... 😨

Wonder how Yachiyo will make it back. Maybe aleins will help?

I'm going to kill that goddamn tanuki for getting Yachiyo stranded in space in service of a weapon system so inefficient that even the US military wouldn't procure it

A satellite to advertise the hotel in the galaxy is such an insane idea I love it, Yachiyo needs to come back though :(

At first, I thought Ponko was just being a kid, but she was actually doing it all for Yachiyo and the hotel. I didn’t expect her to be the smartest person among her people but she managed to build a satellite and a rocket with just the help from a bunch of cleaning and cooking. Seventy years might seem like a long time, but it’s actually really short for what she accomplished. What worries me now is that the thing Ponko wanted to protect might be the first thing to get destroyed. I just hope Yachiyo can hold on long enough for Ponko to do something about it.

Once again, the hotel finds itself in need of guests, and one idea from Owner of a satellite ad sure works...except that Ponko interprets it quite differently from a book of prophecies, which becomes quite the disruption when Ponko turns it into political message. But how can you expect an AI robot to learn things when they're pre-programmed, and the Tanukis' salvation being the Rod from God rocket launcher, it's the only way if they're going to do a satellite ad for the hotel.

Though trial and error, the planned rocket launch is all systems go after both Yachiyo and Ponko worked their ass over 70 years just to see the rocket itself become reality, and Yachiyo becomes its only pilot to bring their advertising across to the entire space system using the Rod from God.

However, the unexpected solar flare blasting Yachiyo to see the Earth from space and detaching her from the very rocket, and yet unlock quite the Easter Egg self-destruction, what will become of her now?

So they can build a rocket and satellite system, but can't repair the broken down robots?

Hey, if aliens invade, we'll bomb ourselves! That'll teach them!

No idea what next episode will bring, but Yachiyo will make it somehow, since the whole show is nothing without her.
@Love_And_Forward Yeah, I was thinking the same thing! RFG only makes sense if the target is somewhere else on Earth's surface, not in the same location as you :P

Pon-Poko-Pon! Pon-Poko-Pon! All enginu runningu! LIFTO! That episode was so great and quotable.

Excellent ending, very bittersweet, fitting for this show. The whole thing seemed suspiciously NGE-esque but I tried to brush it off, until the launch's track clearly quoted NGE's Decisive Battle track - both the iconic beat and the trumpet line! The beat was inverted in a clever way. Another NGE reference to add to the pile, 30 years after that show aired.

Continuing off from Episode 4's thread. It is exactly as I feared. We see other slime aliens for a few seconds, and then Harmy for a whole episode. That episode somehow devolves into a superhero battle because a mad scientist hell-bent on killing all life (for reasons) develops a sweet spot for Yochiyo (for reasons). They finally have their onsen (why were they drilling for one like oil in the first place), but we haven't seen it.

The timeline is absolutely all over the place. She waited for 100 years at the beginning of the show then 50 more years after the first guest. The Tanuki said they'd stay for a week and ended up staying over a hundred years. Within that week they encountered a Nudel, but that was somehow 50 years ago, even though she just said they'd been waiting 400 years now. Well before that they made a whiskey distillery and aged it for 15 years, a task they said would take about 100.

It's clear the timeline is meaningless and that the Tanuki will never age. It's also clear that aside from Ponko and Yochiyo, every character is essentially a background character that will never actually mean anything. Why is Ponko the engineer instead of the father? Why can't the rest of her family get anything to do?

The vast majority of the robots broke down in the initial 100 years before the first episode. Why haven't these broken down yet? They've gone outside to gather materials to build giant buildings and a rocket? Why can't they fix the other robots? Why not just make the rocket bigger? If Ponko is so smart, why didn't she check the solar weather first? The electronics they sent up are essentially useless now. How did Ponko reboot herself?

Ponko is whatever she needs to be, whenever she needs to be it. She learned to be considerate hundreds of years ago, but sometimes she just does whatever she wants. She learned to be fearless hundreds of years ago, but sometimes she's a scaredy cat for no real reason. They should have had this conversation much much earlier. Acknowledging that she didn't fix the spaceship (and that her family knew she could) doesn't actually fix the problem. Why did they use it for parts instead of the buildings? Why even leave the hotel, if they're just going to stay at and work(?) at it every day? It's unclear if her family even regularly works, or if they just help with schemes.

Why was the owner not wearing a hazmat suit when he left?

The stakes are sooooo high. >_> Can't wait for Ponko to girl-boss her way out of this. Maybe Checker can be useful this time. I'm not holding my breath.

To be honest, it was a boring episode. For me, at least. It only got interesting after Yachiyo arrived in space.
It must be so terrifying to get lost up there... and watch the Earth slowly get smaller.

Gravity (2013) is one of my most favourite movies of all time, and this episode gave us a taste of that at the end.

Yachiyo was never able to go back to earth. Becoming a life form between organic and mineral, she wandered for eternity into the endless void known as space. Being unable to die even though she wished for it.
Eventually Yachiyo stopped thinking.
