Not surprising that Haruto dedicated himself to master a new technique. I always felt like he's one of those types that wants to prove himself worthy.

Interesting to see this show's change of setting to a village. Haruto's character personality when he isn't working with the team is pretty similar to the one everyone has came to know.

Definitely the best episode so far by a mile. The ninja village flashback gave me heavy Itachi/Uchiha vibes. RIP to everyone who senselessly lost their lives. My heart fucking dropped when the old tea lady got stabbed in the neck through the door. Brutal.

Yuuki and Saki’s backstory really added a lot to the show and makes me appreciate Saki in particular a lot more. I didn’t know we were gonna have actual supernatural shit in here tho like the power of imagination being able to create swords out of thin air and making Saki invincible when she’s in phantom blade mode lol

Good episode

Sadly, as much as Chris arc (eps 1-3) had similar pacing as volume 4 of the game, and I'd consider it a really good adaptation, Saki arc (eps 4-5) were certainly lacking and felt extremely rushed, considering that they have cut quite a lot of in-between dialogues to properly develop the bond between sisters and explain the entire process of having a master along with village traditions. The volume 5 length was similar to volume 4, but it was one episode short which definitely make a difference here. At least we finally got to see Saki vs Yuuki fight animated, although even this felt longer within the game, so generally speaking I'd say that the animation itself was amazing, but "fight choreography" was a bit lacking.

Another thing is that looking at the preview for episode 6, they also gonna skip volume 5.5 entirely (unless they introduce it later after adapting volume 6, but that doesn't make much sense as volume 6 is a predule to volumes 7-8). Such a pity, guess that anime watchers won't see Arisaka's backstory which was rather...

@EcchiGodMamster If you look at the CGs for the volume this episode is based off, there basically is none. Phantom Trigger is very not heavy on fanservice, especially compared to the original series. It has some here and there, but very infrequent.

Do we know who Haruto's master is that he mentioned?

i mean sure... but the movies had fanservice, so its obviously getting cucked by being in TV format, not to mention that the original Grisaia had bare titties and this obviously doesn't

@EcchiGodMamster It has nothing with the movie/TV format, its just that the original source which is a VN doesn't have them. PH is a completely different game from original Grisaia and compared to original Grisaia which had h-scenes (as it was eroge), PH has none of it through the entire game, with only few fanservice scenes (since its an all-ages release). So yeah, don't expect them that frequently and definitely don't expect the R+ stuff that was in original trilogy.

I'm comparing it to the fact that the movies, especially the first one had upskirts and boob jiggles

and i think the fact that the OFFICIAL TWITTER ACCOUNT felt the need to post about the onsen scene "pushing the limits of TV" kinda shows they KNOW people want fanservice, but maybe they just got cucked and had to flex the one big opportunity they got

oh and i know this doesn't have H scenes, im not talking about that, technically H scenes aren't even fanservice

A ninja illusion shoots at another ninja illusion with her machine pistol, but a ninja illusion can only be hurt by other illusions, which makes the evading of those bullets completely pointless. But a dude can use a sword illusion to cut a ninja illusion to make her turn back into a ninja again, even though that did not work before with the other ninja illusion.

This show is so weird, but not in a good way. Stuff never makes any sense, so I kinda stopped caring about anything that's happening.

Haruto and Yuuki's backstory about marriage through learning some sword techniques, well that's just two ways of beating around the bush.

The Ikoma family affair is back once again, though flashback snippets from the past come to show context between the sisters and Haruto, the latter adamant to learn from Yuuki and Murasaki's father since he idolizes him a lot, and Murasaki wanting to be better despite being young and inexperienced. But after a stint of doing for someone who decided to kill people for pleasure, this unfortunately became true and almost decimated the entire village in Murasaki's eyes, thinking that it's Haruto and Yuuki who did the act.

The truth, however, was starkly different as a true assassin laid waste to the village, and Murasaki unfortunately imbuing her Magical "Phantom" Blade into her being to suspect both Haruto and her own sister being in the act, Yuuki can only plead Haruto for help while cowering down Murasaki being controlled by her imagination, fighting illusion for for illusion. That's how the Ikoma family story came to be with Murasaki joining SORD thereafter, and Yuuki going away overseas to be better on her own accord.

Quite the family drama, though it pushes against limits.
