uhhhh....but what about Final Fantasy: Advent Childeren? That was 3d...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MvkhALO49X0

Sure it's based off of a video game but it's animated and made in japan. It's a 3D anime.

I'd like to add that this movie converts to 3d very well.

demo'd 20 min of advent children on my tv, looks veeeeery nice.
especially when they're fighting on bikes.

Anime almost NEVER have anything 2D related in it. Besides, the 3D movies they put out nowadays are usually crap and worthless. They probably just persistently release them in 3D just to make the audience pay twice as much to go see the movie in 3D rather than 2D. Then, we have people walking out muttering under their breaths on how bad that particular 3D movie was.

What a waste of money!-_-

god, that would be weird. But I'd be sure not to watch it, as you know it's gonna be bad if they have to make it 3D.

Eh, I would rather not have it 3D. 3D gives me a headache and hurts my eyes after a while. Anime is fine the way it is, I don't need things popping out at me, actually it'd probably just distract me from what's happening.

I'd definitely prefer them to stay 2D. 3D is eye straining and considering how much anime I watch I'd need new eyes after awhile lol

They could apply it with scenes that use CG anyway, or some parts that can be "layered". I always imagine the part of Saber in the Fate/Zero ED being 3d, something like that could work out.

Appleseed 2004 and Appleseed Ex Machina is a full 3D/CGI anime, it's not bad for a die hard sci-fi mecha or cyberpunk fan, and loved masamune Shirow's other works such as GITS

Depends if its like Final Fantasy XIII graphics some anime might be able to pull it off but i simply cant only see action anime pulling it off. I cant see myself watching anime like Baka to Test or Zero Tsukaima in 3D -_-

Some animes can be good in 3D I think, imagine how Dragon Ball Z and Final Fantasy Advent Children will look like when they're converted to 3D effect.

LG came out with a TV capable of converting even normally 'flat' shows into 3D. You still use their glasses (transparent ones not red/blue). It was eye candy galore. I asked the sales agent to show me MTV videos, Happy Feet and what not. They also have 3D videos made by LG that converts to 2D ('flat'). Amazing....and expensive.

otaku ninja - advent children is pretty amazing in 3d, with just the tv conversion. i was surprised
can you imagined if it was made for it, sbs?

chibi fantasy - or it's sword art online style haha
**** that would be awesome would never leave home.

downloaded some 3d shukufuku no campell.... or whatever it was called.
honestly, it did look pretty awesome.

as for tv conversions though you need really good quality (1080 or maybe even 720p) for it to be decent.

cg stuff works the best like advent children and apple seed :)

Im like many that would prefer their anime to remain 2D.

What sort of argument can Otaku's give saying they prefer their 2D Waifu's when they star in 3D anime!?

the anime shows are STILL 2D looking but just have alot more DEPTH and things pop more.

who wouldn't want to watch there favorite anime where there's alot more depth and such.
talking about the 3d where you have to wear glasses.

don't knock it till you try it :-P

The LG TV 3D glasses are not the dorky red/blue ones. They just look like regular glasses. You should really try it. I could just imagine watching 5 Centimeters Per Second of Ghost In The Shell SAC. It's a fantastic experience.

Every movie I watched in 3D was (my)money being wasted.I would prefer if they used their budget for animation that I can actually see.Till now the only 3D part I have seen that was actually 3D was the M&M commercials before the movie starts.

3D Models or 3D movie as in it comes out of the screen. 3D is confusing T.T.

I guess you mean 3D Modelled characters like this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=57mkfFdvREw

It wouldn't hurt to give it a try but I like anime as it currently is because I've gotten used to it.

I'm in charge of AnigoAnimation (http://www.anigoanimation.com/), a little studio trying to produce a 3D Anime OVA.
I've read the thread and I'm a bit concerned about the number of people refusing to watch 3D Anime. :(
Our final goal is to have classical 2D-looking Anime with full 3D depth. So everything is modeled in 3D, no hand-drawing here. Then we use a few techniques to give the picture the 2D-Anime looking.
Honestly I think that we still have not fully reach our objective (some things are a bit too CGI and the animation is not good enough) but we are doing our best efforts to reach that goal. If things go right for the next months I'll make contact with real Anime professionals at the Tokyo International Anime Fair. Those contacts will help us to improve a lot the final quality of the OVA.
Sadly the project funding is not going too well. If anyone want to help, please ask me here and I will post the link to the Indiegogo page.
Here the 3D trailer:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pWyffLUsR6o
Here the 2D trailer:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t7P4Ba6DncI
Take into account that the visuals were done by myself and another guy in less than 2 months. But yes... only a few shots of the full trailer could be classified as Anime. We will keep improving.

3D anime is okay. Ajin did it well. It depends on the anime. I couldn't see the IBMs fighting in a cool way if it were an average anime. Unnecessary 3D battles like in Divine Gate are stupid. Unnecessary dancing in Tsukiuta is also stupid.
